Championship Team of the Decade

Recommended Posts

Well folks, it's New Year's Day and time to wish all members of the dirt track family everywhere a happy, safe and prosperous 2020. Here's looking forward to a new year (and a new decade) of shale-shifting and hoping for another season of exciting, close-fought, injury-free speedway for all riders, fans and officials.

As we look back at the past ten years I thought it might be a good idea to nominate the stand-out riders who have represented your team in the years 2010 - 2019 and identify the Championship "Team of the Decade."

The aim of the game is to nominate seven riders who have represented your team for at least one full season in the past decade (minimum 15 matches, so no guests!) and list their season average (including bonus points), then tot up the averages to arrive at a team total. The team with the biggest total wins the Speedway Forum Team of the Decade accolade. Here's my entry on behalf of Sheffield, whose Team Total is 64.84. Can anyone beat that? (NO CHEATING!)

4. Jason Garrity 2018

5. Magnus Karlsson 2010

6. Ashley Birks 2014

5. Tero Aarnio 2017

Favourite Visitors

1. Craig Cook (Any year)

2. Josh Pickering 2019

3. Aaron Summers 2018/2019

4. Lee Complin 2010/2011

5. Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen 2018

6. Broc Nicol 2019

7. Luke Ruddick 2019

Not many spring to mind for this team, don't remember individual performances over a team rider, but these few names spring to mind for me at Newcastle since I started going half way through 2010

Ooo Nico Covatti is also good value for money at Brough too

I think you've totally missed the point of this thread, it's not a 1-7 of who you've enjoyed watching it's to pick 7 riders of the team you support who have had the highest averages since 2010 to see if you can beat the Sheffield team in the opening post.

For Newcastle I'd go with this,

Kenni Larsen 9.57

Robert Lambert 9.32

Steve Worrall 9.13

Mark Lemon 9.09

Stuart Robson 8.96

Danny King 8.84

Rene Bach 8.81

Total 63.72

Dead easy comets 2018 treble winners

If that team beat the 64.84 team average above, they either improved an awful lot throughout the season or someone's abacus needs new batteries. :P

Much the same but would swap Ludvig for Danny King in his heyday.

I know my post wasn't exactly on the point, but I thought it would be an interesting variation for people to talk about... My guess at highest averages for the last decade would be Glasgow or Edinburgh... I'm gonna go look now :)

Glasgow Tigers

1 Travis McGowan 11.72 2010
2 Craig Cook 10.45 2018
3 Joe Screen 9.80 2010
4 Richard Lawson 9.12 2015
5 Rasmus Jensen 9.05 2019
6 Aaron Summers 8.57 2016
7 Richie Worrall 8.52 2017
    67.23

Edinburgh Monarchs

1 Craig Cook 10.52 2013
2 Ryan Fisher 9.69 2010
3 Sam Masters 9.03 2019
4 Kevin Wolbert 8.61 2011
5 Erik Riss 8.58 2018
6 Ricky Wells 8.40 2018
7 Max Fricke 8.07 2014
    62.90

That's a no to Edinburgh but Glasgow are higher... Wonder if anyone else tops it? Doesn't help that teams like Somerset and King's Lynn haven't had full decades

When Danny King first came into this league he was 11.something... Which is much higher... And I thought Kenni was in the 10.something at some point in 2010? Probably wrong though

11.72 was his converted figure from 2009,his actual 2010 average was 9.09.

Not really. That's like saying that Jason Doyle averaged over 13 for Swindon a couple of years back.
