Unattached British Talent ?

Recommended Posts

Probably not the right section for this topic, but as it's so popular/current and as not to dominate Poole's thread ? : )

Should we be listing riders that 'we' as fans feel deserve a Championship Team Place and the BSPA should be supporting ?

There are a few obvious choices and I'll start it off with Alfie Bowtell !

It just seems as if we're existing to serve Poland and Sweden, there are very few Southern Hemisphere riders going straight into their leagues without first using this place as a stepping stone. Who pays their air fares if they come here and later in the season join a continental club? Obviously a club shouldn't have to guarantee places to riders who it doesn't think are worthy of them but at the same time it's madness to deny British riders racing at some level, do the Poles do that with their lower order riders?

The four named riders are 23, 22, 21 and 21.

None should be without a team place.

Keleher, Ben Cook and Kye Thomson have done nothing to give them a prior claim.

There will probably be fewer Danes, Swedes etc in  the British leagues from 2021 due to Brexit, thereby giving more opportunities to British riders.

Only way British riders will get more opportunities is if they get average reductions compared to their foreign counterparts as the current trend is to gamble on the unknown rather than help develop our own.

Depending on the Government's immigration policy following Brexit, EU riders may not be able to come into the Country to work, so promoters may have no choice but to look to British riders to fill their teams.

Not bothered about who clubs sign, but surely it makes more sense to give British youngsters a fair chance rather than bringing over foreign riders who have shown no particular potential?

I’m not singling out Poole at all, although I wonder if Poole’s four Brits spoke up for the likes of Greaves and Hume?

Nathan Greaves had a questionable attitude at Swindon but he seemed to do well for Wolves and has improved at Redcar, so surely he deserves a chance?

He certainly did better than Josh MacDonald last year.

One argument which is certainly valid is that Aussie riders have been better in British speedway especially in the Prem/Elite league that Aussies have simply been better.

Lambert and Cook were 7.81 and 7.78 respectively

With king in 3rd on 6.83

Doyle, batch and Fricke all higher than those 3.

With Brady, Holder, Josh and masters all higher than King.

Also NKI, Bjeere, Jensen, Klindt and Thorsell being higher than King.

So of the top 15 riders in the prem 3 were brits. (thats where the issues lie).
