Guest Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) Bob Warner was a well known personality around the speedway scene in the 1950s and 1960s, Originally a cycle speedway rider with a club in Surrey, he started on speedway circa 1953 at Aldershot, later having connections with Eastbourne and Wimbledon. In the 1960s Warner also had involvement at one period with the Victor Boston Troupe in France, Besides Aldershot and Wimbledon Warner also rode for Norwich, Bradford and Wolverhampton. His main claim to fame perhaps was in 1958 when he was a key rider for Young England when he inspired the home side to a late rally that earned them a 58-49 victory over Young Overseas in a match at Eastbourne. Guest Posted February 16, 2020 A comment on the International Speedway website re the test match: "...This match was officially designated as a "Junior Test Match", and is notable for the first international team appearance of Ivan Mauger. England were without Leo McAuliffe, who broke down on the way to the track, so Ross Gilbertson replaced him in the team and Bob Warner, who had attended the match as a spectator, borrowed novice Ken Vale's equipment and became reserve. It was to be the peak of Warner's speedway career for, with Overseas holding a 3-point lead after 11 races, and England robbed of the services of Bobby Croombs and Frank Bettis through injury, he was called on to ride in 5 of the last 7 races, and his 8 points gave England the match..."
