When was this announced and what are the details?

Shhh it hasn't been yet. Still need to complete the crushing of the existing league before swooping in and saving the day.

The truth is out there. The Prem clubs step in to save the day (after the destruction of the current development league) by running a second half division for "local young riders" to enable them to develop and hone their skills before finding there is no team place for them as they are all filled with overseas riders and fading GP stars.

If the Premiership go about this properly then it will be good for young riders to get more track time.

If it’s for the purpose of hoovering up the best talent then that’s bound to fail.

Will there be a tug-of-war between CL and NL clubs about ownership or can we say that the rider will dictate his own destiny.

If it is done properly then fair enough.

The cynic in me thinks it's all about building Club asset bases.

Or "adding value" to the entry prices. How many actual local riders are there? Its all about big clubs playing the hero (whilst likely treating them like dirt)

Hope Peterborough are not putting a team together for this,  or the league wont start until next year

Always reassuring to see the Prem sides step in and run development sides for the benefit of long term British Speedway, shame they couldn't have done so in the existing league oh wait they did. Kings Lynn, Wolverhampton, Belle Vue, P'boro and Sheffield have all had dev league sides before and for various reasons have not continued to run them. Swindon were happy for Reading to stay so doesn't strike me as being that enthused by the new league. Ipswich have boasted about the swift running of meetings and spare time after and have never considered running a dev league side until now. Certainly makes me wonder how long this "new" venture will last hopefully longer than the last one, the whole of 1992 according to the press release.

Any updates on the teams / squads / rules / format for this yet? Season isn't far away........

Those in power are still too busy destroying the MSDL to have started serious work on their new baby!

It won't happen in any organised way, as you and Chris have said just a headline to look good and put a spanner in the works of the development leagues.

Is there a reason why people think those making the decisions would be looking to deliberately put a spanner in the works of development leagues? Or just cynicism for the sake of it? Genuinely curious

I think quashing the current dev leagues with crazy reasons like your name is geographically inaccurate before starting their own saviour league rings a few alarm bells. Throw in the threat the NL was posing as it was becoming a solid sustainable product at semi affordable prices using UK only riders. Next season will likely see the PJL merge with the NL to offer up a lesser product and persevere the top clubs even if that does close a few tracks.

Lets be clear its the top money promotions making decisions about leagues they have nothing to do with, why do they care? Because others are generating something successful and genuine and that is a treat and must be crushed before it starts.

What threat does having a solid sustainable product at semi affordable prices, using UK only riders, pose to the other leagues? It's the breeding ground for up and coming talent, and I doubt Promoters in other leagues are that short sighted (whilst you may believe so) to purposefully dismantle this out of jealousy/spite? Especially when it offers a level to drop to for struggling Clubs, and a level to start at for emerging Clubs.

Who do you class as the top money promotions making the decisions?

Promotions in the top flight are protecting their own product. Lets face it Buster had no league until he dragged other clubs in, the mafia want a two tier structure with 10 teams in each and the only way that will become possible is to dismantle the NL and force some teams up and the others out. Promotions have little interest in the development of upcoming talent until they are already showing signs of being a useful recruit. The BSPA are the decision makers who have driven out several amateur promotions over petty reasons however in Buster, Louis & Bates we trust forget Godfrey he is just the comedy puppet who is the public face of the blunders.
