DC2 10,664 Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) 26 minutes ago, iris123 said: FFP2 masks give very good protection in enclosed areas say's a study from the German Max Planck Instutute https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/niedersachsen/braunschweig_harz_goettingen/Goettinger-Studie-FFP2-Masken-bieten-hohen-Schutz-vor-Corona,corona9454.html The base line against which to test mask-wearing would be the percentage chance of catching Covid if neither person were wearing a mask, but the report does not state this percentage. The study is also based on calculations rather than real life observation and evidence and invents something called “diluted air”. What is “diluted air”? Presumably it means that the amount of virus coming out of the sides of a mask are “diluted” by some of the virus being trapped in the front of the mask? But other than virus particles contained in some water droplets (or mucus), is that what actually happens? Certainly not enough for the mask to sag like a moisture retaining balloon. And I wonder what the risk of infection is if the non-wearer is a healthy young person or has been fully jabbed? Would it be minimal regardless of not having a mask? Anyway, this is what the article says: “According to the researchers, the risk of infection after 20 minutes is a good one per thousand (0.1 percent) if an infected and a healthy person meet in an indoor area at a short distance. For this, the FFP2 or KN95 mask must fit correctly, writes the team around institute director Eberhard Bodenschatz in a publication by the US National Academy of Sciences. If the FFP2 mask does not sit optimally, however, the risk of infection in the same scenario is around four percent. In the case of surgical masks, the risk of infection can still be reduced to ten percent if the mask is put on correctly. FFP2 mask on a neutral background. FFP2 masks put to the test: are they tight and comfortable? Stiftung Warentest took a close look at 20 masks. All of them have a good filter effect, but not all of them fit well. (07/20/2021) Breathing air is diluted. The researchers calculated the risk of infection by combining factors such as particle size, physics when exhaling, various mask types and the risk of inhaling coronaviruses. "In daily life the actual probability of infection is certainly ten to a hundred times smaller," Bodenschatz is quoted in a communication from the Göttingen Institute. The reason: The air that flows out of the mask at the edges is diluted. However, the researchers wanted to calculate the risk as conservatively as possible. No mask means a high risk of infection [but they don’t state the percentage chance]. On the other hand, a healthy person is very likely to be infected if they stand for a few minutes without an FFP2 mask at a distance of three meters in the breath of an infected person who is also not wearing a mask, according to the study. "Our results show once again that wearing masks in schools and in general is a good idea," said Bodenschatz” Edited December 5, 2021 by DC2 Share this post Link to post

DC2 10,664 Posted December 5, 2021 The government has announced that from Tuesday everyone coming to the UK must have a Covid test before leaving their country of departure. Good to see the government taking my advice. 1 Share this post Link to post

Yes, we’ve been letting in people without testing before they get on the plane since September. It doesn’t re-start until Tuesday. It’s unbelievable. DC2 10,664 Posted December 5, 2021 (edited) Here’s a typically warped mainstream narrative of the “fors” and “againsts” of mandatory vaccination from the increasingly shallow BBC. No analysis of vaccinations causing deaths. No analysis of whether vaccinations are justified in the under 30s or children. No proper analysis of breaching human rights. No analysis of living with Covid cases. No analysis of voluntary, supported quarantine. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-59506339 Edited December 5, 2021 by DC2 Share this post Link to post

Good, as Gates stated the pandemic will end in a few weeks. Why don't the right wing Twatterati quote him on that ? Share this post Link to post
Crumpet91 3,464 Posted December 5, 2021 We have known since Spring 2020 that obesity is a seriously high risk factor for a bad Covid-19 outcome (hospital, ICU &/or death). Governments have done virtually nothing to make this widely known in an effort to help people reduce this risk, and that failure is a disgrace. 1 Share this post Link to post
