Gollob getting Gollobed, a rarity.

That's something I remember Gollob used to do quite a bit in his earlier days, like he fell asleep and lost concentration when he was out in front, seemed to eradicate that from his game in the later years....

just as an aside, and this is about as random as it gets, this popped up after that Gollob race and looked quite a fun piece

So why don't we get tarmac tracks? Gets rid of the gardening at the start and probably means that rain would affect meetings a lot less than on shale!

Didn't Ole Olsen after he retired and moved onto the GP's suggest such a thing...perhaps for the future?

Weren't there some indoor meetings in the 80's held on concrete/tarmac. I seem to remember Jan Andersen being a specialist and used to apply hair laquer to his back tyre

Didn't they used to have concrete start grids way way way way back in the day?

And looking at that back tyre, doesn't it look a bit... special? Maybe it's just at a higher pressure

There were indoor meetings held at the Wembley Arena and the NEC both of which I attended...spectacular but not speedway in the true sense. Concrete start areas were adopted during the fifties (?) but I don't think that they proved successful with riders gaining unnecessary grip which caused issues (?)

100%, great ride from him to work his way through the field but he just pushed too far.
