Surely theres better meetings Vs Newport to choose? the 1999 fixtures , 2003 when we had Iversen , 2010 , 2011? The meetings are chosen first and foremost for the standard of the racing. We have a record of how many heats from each match were chosen for the end of season highlights tapes. So while Newport may have had better teams in other matches they did not provide such good racing. Edited August 22, 2020 by Al Stewart

This was I believe the first ever time Golden Heats had been used and unfortunately (for me anyway) the result went the wrong way. Would love to see that one again... Also it was the first time that season that I had seen the Diamonds loose in all my travels that year... Regards THJ
