Ask The Chairman

Recommended Posts

Rob Godfrey will be taking questions from supporters(all and sundry) on the BSPA twitter feed on Friday 10 April from 7.30 onwards. I am not sure how long this will go on for or whether questions will be vetted but I wonder if those that question his stance, morals & beliefs will have the b@ll$ to question him, even though they normally do it behind a screen(computer, phone, ipad etc) they should  have a go under similar circumstances.  :t: :D

You always had a lot to say a few years ago until a certain THJ said speak to him face to face & he will tell you it straight, no bulls..t. He has methanol running through his veins & has Speedway at heart.

Our track is built on our old Normanby Park works site & the land is leased off our Council & Rob, & his then co-promoter Norman Beeney, designed the track shape as it is now, from aerial views, egg shaped. It was the intention to dig deep to form a bowl, but encountered large amounts of steel, iron & rock which could not be removed. Our track fence, seen from early photos, was wooden with timber posts holding the panels in place. The outer safety fence is steel fence hand railing built on an earth embankment for raised spectator viewing.

The wide nature of the track, even before stock cars were introduced, led to great racing & even though we had 2 great teams in '06 & '07, hammering most teams, which was not good, our excitement was caused from riders missing the gate, on purpose who knows, but over taking at the EWR, even over 15 years, is there to behold.

If possible, you ought to try & find old clips on you tube as we could buy dvd's of the meetings later.

You could even go to http://scunthorpe-speedway.com/?page_id=80 and scroll down to the photos to see how we first started out. Very basic at the start but built up over the years with the money that Rob & our sponsors, have earned. Everything goes back into the stadium.

I think you will know that today's track is different from the original design. Whilst it is the same shape, originally the third and forth bend had to be substantially raised due to water running across the third bend entrance and both bends suffered from adverse camber which made it really difficult to ride. That's the reason why the earth embankment is so high but water still runs across the entrance of the third bend,  but not much now. Seem to remember Sean Wilson used to practice there, and maybe had an input on the redesign. Hope that helps.

Might be a nice bloke, might have methanol in his veins, Scunny is a decent track although poorly supported numbers wise .

As the head man of our Sport though and on his record as Vice Chairman he was and still is way out of his depth. No marketing ideas, no vision, no charisma, look at the Scunthorpe programme (a joke) website (an embarassment) social media ( non existant ) and then compare with Barry Bishop, Lee Kilby, Peter Faceena and a few other Promoters and the likes of Rob Painter GB man

Sport is cooked with "dumb down Godfrey" in charge. Time for an Independent professional approach.

Absolutely spot on, Scunthorpe's twitter account and the content produced is very amatuerish, that similarly transcends across to the BSPA ideas.

Having him in charge, or Buster Chapman, Alex Harkess or anyone else involved with a current club in charge of British Speedway is embarrasing for the sport, to be considered as a professional sport you can't have these guys bringing their self-interests to the table.

What Rob Painter has done with the national team is light years ahead of the way British Speedway is run and how they market themselves.

I agree with every word, except he’s not even a particularly nice bloke.

Even compared with some of the sports head honchos of recent years he is, as you say out of his depth, lacking the slightest modicum of flair as an administrator and unable to see beyond the end of his nose. I can only assume he’s there because the sport has reached such a low ebb nobody else wants the job.

For reasons we will never know the BSPA decided to go down the Chapman - Godfrey dumbed down Leader route, some years ago. My theory is that they shouted loudest when they were on the outside of roles of influence and then bulldozed their way in, as resistence to their "style" crumbled.

As many dictators in history have done, in all speheres of life.

All media should be handed over to the people that do Glasgow's... they're on a different level
