MattK 3,447 Posted May 16, 2020 I do feel a bit sorry for the kids of today who are getting royally f**ked over by our short termism. Case in point the govt borrows £200bn to juice the economy for a few months, all the while saying that we cannot afford to invest in infrastructure, housing, let alone free university education (which ironically many if them personally benefited from). Therefore I can understand their anger. They rightfully feel that they'll be left to pick up the pieces, paying price of today's borrowing (paying interest in perpetuity), the cost of dismantling the fossil fuel industry (estimated at £300bn in the UK alone), untold environmental damage and so on. Therefore this girl decided to stick her head above the parapet. Good for her I say. She seems to argue her point without resorting to insults and personal attacks, which is also a refreshing change and as demonstrated above, at odds with her detractors. 4 Share this post Link to post

Please explain to us how anything can be made or produced if you dismantle the fossil fuel industry. No more PPE and surgical instruments for starters, no cars, no solar panels, no bird chopping wind turbines, no central heating, no refrigeration, no telephones, no laptops, no credit cards. Over 6000 things are made from petroleum, here's a partial list. https://whgbetc.com/petro-products.pdf Share this post Link to post

Dunno too much about renewable energies, but there has to be a case to be stringent in what your paying for. I would have thought that the US is a big user and, probly not too happy about cutting back on stuff. There's probly a million ways on how to cut down on finite resources, but education would be critical on that. I went to college with a guy that thought there was a way to harness lightning,,, he was often mocked, but I thought he had a plan Share this post Link to post

However, I do find it somewhat ironic that oil companies have made billions in profits and received billions more in subsidies, but they can't even be bothered to clear up after themselves and have decided to simply leave oil rigs out in the North Sea as it is cost prohibitive to decommissioning then properly. This cost will ultimately fall into the taxpayer one way or another. Another short term decision which will eventually cost Greta's generation. It would be 'greener' to burn the fossil fuels in the first place. Renewable energies can't even be recycled, they end up in massive landfills, polluting the land and seeping toxins into the soil. It's a billionaire con job, as green campaigner Michael Moore has now exposed. Was the guy you went to college with called Emmett Brown 1 Share this post Link to post
