That is very strange.

I exchanged email addresses with John at the game. Earlier today, I passed on the apparent coincidence. This is what he said:

"I was a member of the medical profession. However, I was merely a lowly general practitioner, in practice in a commuter town outside Edinburgh, rather than a specialist. Now, if there is another hopper [i.e. groundhopper] called John, in Edinburgh, also keen on going to matches at obscure venues, I would love to know who it is."

Curioser and curioser?

A long story, but spoke with "my" John, and he never made it in the end.  All very curious that 2 medical people, with the same forename  were miles from home, in the same area and could have both been in a group of 80+. Would have been incredible had they met,. He is not really a football fan but seemed interested in taking a look, when the Lancaster game, we had spoken about as something to do on his hols, was postponed. A walk and meal were a better deal in the end. He owes me. Very weird coincidence.

Ironically in a past job I received a, shall I say, intimate gift in the post, through head office with an apology and love letter. I had no idea who it was from, other than a first name, or what it was about but thought I’d better not hide from my other half, at the same time denying any idea of why I had received it. I have an unusual combination of first and surname , but incredibly received a call the next day from “my  namesake” who was working as a temp in head office for a few weeks so not in the staff directory. That was an embarrassing meeting.

Farnham Town v Bagshot today.

Same level, different league; Lydd Town 1 v 3 Forest Hill Park. # birthday treat. Thought we could hear the sound of bikes from the speedway during 2nd half but turned out to be a plane taxiing at the airport next door. :(

I was in Basingstoke earlier in the day,  and i managed to find a way into the Camrose. What a shame to see it wrecked by vandals. I last saw a match there a couple of season ago.

Several trips to the Leeds Cancer Centre for my wife. Day trips I would have gladly missed.

Colliers Wood United v Redhill last night.

Some 20 or more years ago when I was working on the sports desk at the South London Press I recall editing the Colliers Wood United match reports.

Not that I ever went there - or even knew where their ground was - but they are now play by Beverley Meads on the A3, just north of Coombe Lane.

Must have drove past the ground a thousand times, without knowing it was there. The combined counties league was once too low a standard for me to consider, but in these uncertain times, beggars can't be choosers.

Colliers Wood used to play in the Recreation Park next to Singlegate School. Think they played on saturdays and a team called Larkhall played Sunday, or the other way round

According to last Wednesday's programme, they have been at their current ground for almost 30 years.

May well be. Last time I saw them in Colliers Wood must be in the 70s or early 80s

Frightening. It seems so recent when they moved but obviously was that long ago. Been in the Comb Cos League since the early noughties. Not 100% sure but probably in Surrey South East Combination when they moved to Wibbandune. In the late 90s they merged with Vandyke becoming Vandyke Colliers United around 97; and  taking their place in the then Surrey Premier / County League. Reverted to their own name before promotion to their current level. Vandyke previously played at the Fire Brigade ground in Ewell, but had to leave. CWU had the ground and Vandyke the more senior status so a merger suited both .

You certainly have a great knowledge of non league football. I started out at Wimbledon and Tooting in the early 1970's, progressing to Arsenal home and away. I've always ticked a few non league grounds off every year, but i have really ramped it up this season.

Bit strange they kept or even reverted to the original name, seeing as they haven't played in CW for 30 years and I would guess there is zero prospect of them going back
