To be announced during the budget tomorrow..

Will Speedway be included in this one?

I'm assuming that the tax payers money isn't just going to be thrown around like confetti, and that to get any money off the Government, the sports governing bodies will have to present Full Business Cases for how much they want, why they deserve it, and what they will do with it, that will be to the greater good of the sport that the communities that benefit from the sport. Included in that will be an Equalities Impact Assessment (the Public Sector loves those) to ensure that everyone from as diverse a cross section of the community will benefit...

SO... let's play a game... let''s pretend that it's YOUR job to write that Full Business Case to support a claim for financial assistance for speedway.  How would it read?

AND when you've had a go at doing it for yourself, ask yourself who at the BSPZzzz you would trust to present a Full Business Case on behalf of the whole sport without trousering 40% of the money awarded, like Terry Russell did, the last time some collective financial deal was struck (Sky TV, anyone?)

Surely - a bit like the Govt PPE contracts - it'll be a case of who you know not what you know!!?

OK, so who has speedway got in high (or even better, in low) places that can help?

Seriously though, there will be a department within the ministry, staffed by civil servants, none of whom will probably have the first clue as to what speedway is, and if you their job will be to sift through the applications, bin the ones that don't tick the boxes and advance those that do...so how many politically correct boxes do you think that an application made by the BSPZzzz is going to tick?

Surely they must have a chance given that last years British Final was singled out as a test event? At the very least it shows that the BSPL have lines of communication to the decision makers.

Didn't Speedway have some link to several MP's a few years ago?

Are they still there?

LET'S not forget that without Terry Russell there would have been no Sky deal and quite rightly he had a percentage of it but not the figure you quote.

I am sure a good many had tried to get "Speedway on the telly", and failed, before Russell managed it...

A 'finders'' or 'brokers' fee would be a usual thing to then get paid...

There was still a "hell of a lot of money" 'that went to the clubs over a good many years...

A shame that money didn't get used well to further enhance the sport in the UK..

The bspa as it was should have bought Coventry stadium when it was up for sale with some of the money from sky. Had it as a Midland national stadium for all top meetings and also had all the offices there . And used for training and bringing on British riders. As it can be used 7 days a week?

That was proposed by one of the promoters at the time, who put forward a working business case for the purchase but no action was taken.

Come along now folks .... you must be in fantasy land if you think that BSPL is interested in any other club except their own.  They are just a loose group of individuals who run a local speedway track.

Their collective decisions in the past few years have contributed to  clubs closing down,  and I dont recall any attempts to support assist new members to the "club" of BSPL.

Only in speedway can such a blatant conflict of interest be heralded as some kind of heroism.  And you wonder why the sport has gone down the pan.
