Rider who holds the most track records in the u.k?

Slightly off topic, but was wondering who has held a track record for the longest (assuming the clock stops in the event of a track closure). I know Ricky Ashworth, has held the Sheffield track record for over 10 years.

I'm guessing that Hans Nielsen's time of 56.2 achieved at Oxford in 1988 may well have been one of the longest?

Not as long as Per Jonsson at Reading. He broke it on 12 October 1987 and it still stood at the end of 2008.

I seem to remember that when I started going in 1974, Peter Craven still held a track record somewhere.

Not sure where it was now. Maybe Oxford? Or Coventry?

I recall that Hans broke the track record at Reading but was later withdrawn because it was achieved during a meeting that the tapes had failed and the starts were on the green light?

Peter registered a time of 63 seconds at Cowley in 1963 and that held up until 1973 only because the track had been shortened by four yards during that season. If I recall Ole Olsen (?) ended the season as holder.

Yes. But it was

a) before, and

b) slower

- than Per's record.

Interesting to see Martin Ashby listed with 18...vastly underrated rider.

Great to watch Don Rogers on Saturday afternoon and Martin Ashby Saturday evening late 60s ;) According to Briggo Crash should have been World Champion. Quiet modest character, spoke to him at his workshop in Marlborough a few years ago. Was a regular on the Abbey terraces.

If I recall Martin rode on the 1968 World Final without having a practice (?) as his promoter (Wally Mawdsley?) expected him to turn out for Exeter instead where, incidently, he had amassed an impressive average that season. Who knows if he had beem better prepared and on better equipment he may well have ended up on at least the rostrum?

Current Berwick track record holder at Berwick is Craig Cook with a time of 62.8 which was set in August 2015, giving Berwick`s track alterations a new track record will be set after Ht1 of the National League match with Armadale.

Was the track not altered before U 21 meeting last year,so there is already a new track record.?

Talking of shortened tracks, I asked former Brummies promoter Joe Thurley back in 2007 why the old Ladbroke Stadium, Perry Barr track was shortened from 350 yards to 330 in 1974.

His reply was that it wasn't shortened, they'd just measured it properly!
