Belle Vue v Sheffield, Monday May 17th 7:30pm

Recommended Posts

Saddled with a "rising star" rabbit the Championship clubs have been made deliberately weaker, otherwise no differnece in reserves abilitiy.  Not sure too many PL riders who also ride in the championship would agree that there is "a mile" difference nowadays in the standard of rider.  The  PL "second strings " are all much the same and double up anyhow .....  £2 per person extra to watch them is probably about right given they are saving money on wages of GP sooperstars left (replaced by Batchelor and Kurtz in the above example !!! ) and he tracks have to spend extra money on hand sanitiser this season.

Still, with  the lower standard of rider comes more mistakes, more incidents and more excitement.

Adam Ellis appears to have had quite a week going by the tweet put up today

It appears to suggest he tested positive earlier in the week although a negative test has followed since

Must say I'm confused as I thought a positive test meant isolation and certainly not travelling back to the UK regardless of a subsequent test result being negative

Good to note he seems well which is most important and welcome

Really looking forward to this, the best two teams clashing on the opening night. Fingers crossed all fourteen riders are present.

Sheffield say Ellis wasn’t allowed to board last night due to his positive test so will be R/R

The worst of any rain now passed through, brightening up. Maybe a chance of a small shower this afternoon but looking good.

That makes sense - the tweet seemed to indicate he was expecting to ride

Best wishes to Adam - hope he has a symptom free time. Will be frustrating for him to get to this point and then be set back just as things start to get going

Not a question of being symptom free... he had Covid in January, it was just a positive test earlier in the week that was followed up by two negative ones. He was kicked off his flight last night and fined as he’s now on a quarantine list.

He spent right up until another flight left this morning trying to get the list revised. even driving to the UK would have been a €5,000 fine.

Can someone just confirm for me that r/r rules are the same as two years ago in that anybody except for Batch can take the r/r rides...

Regulations for 2021 are the 2020 issue plus the recent 2021 supplementary V2
