Somerset Closure

Recommended Posts

Sounds like a complete mess but is summed up by the fact they want to open a new club but use the history of another club which has no connection to it other than by nickname.

Guess what? When Arena Essex was born in 1984 and named the Hammers, they didn’t inherit all the history and success of the West Ham Hammers, and neither should they of.

Well, when the late Loomer Road speedway was opened, they had to be called 'Chesterton' for a while because the ex-owners of the defunct Sun Street promotion wouldn't let them use the name 'Stoke'.

I thought the reason Stoke were called "Chesterton Potters" when Loomer Road first opened for League racing in 1973 was because the nearby Crewe speedway objected to the the name Stoke being used cause they thought it would have an adverse effect on their crowd levels?

I hope speedway in Somerset can get going again but it looks like being a long process?

I also think a Somerset/ Workington like set up could also work in the Stoke area.

I can’t personally see a huge problem in that. When you’re largely attracting much of the original fan base, I personally still have great memories of times following my team.

There is a large spread in the Speedway star today that has been shared on social media. Makes for pretty grim reading but is a fair reflection I think of the events that have unfolded on social media over the past couple of weeks. Brian White seems to come out of it looking much better than Greg Daniels but at the end of the day, with no speedway we are all losers aren’t we?

Again, if the report is 100% factual, then anybody who knows the area will know it’s been surrounded by houses in recent years. The likelihood of getting a 20K music venue off the ground seems non existent - but a speedway venue seems much more viable… maybe wishful thinking though!

Brian White had his lease terminated at Weymouth because Phil Bartlett paid the then Weymouth Chief Exec Gary Calder a back hander. Gary Calder was later banned by the FA for 8 years for match fixing. That guy could fix anything. Gary'll Fix It!

Who’s ever watched DRAGONS DEN ?. Good in it’
Well Shale Events Ltd have experienced that this week dealing with the council trying to get speedway back for all you deserving people. Monday started off with 4 of the 5 (one was too busy to attend) investors & 2 Blue chip company representatives getting together & commissioning a 3D Digitally printed scale model to be made & all return back on Wednesday to see the un-vailing of it, ready to present on Friday in a meeting with the Contractors, Architects, Investors & invited councillors from North Somerset Council. How exciting ?.
All day Thursday, was spent, entering & exiting a room in front of a mirror practicing our PITCH to the men in the big chairs on Friday, We kept thinking, this shouldn’t be too hard, we’ve put shows on in stadiums to 80,000 peeps for global artists as tour managers for the past 20 years, we’ll use the same ethos, when pitching the Speedway, as the stadium for headline music artists to come to the resort will sell itself … Perfect.
Because of the support, along with well wishes we have had from you loyal supporters & we couldn’t have you all at the meetings, we feel it is only fair & to be completely transparent on what we want for you, that you have a summary of the Pitch & the TWIST at the END.
Here we go kids…….. Please Sit back, grab a cup of coffee, have a read & see how well we did.. we would love your comments & support.
“Good afternoon, ladies & Gentleman, thank for attending this meeting today, we would like to pitch to you all this afternoon, the construction of an outdoor entertainment arena here in Weston super mare.
We are here today representing SHALE EVENTS Ltd, an umbrella company consisting of a consortium of businessmen & Blue chip companies. We are asking you for NO MONEY & in return we are offering you an ongoing development of a £4.2m proposal, to construct an outdoor entertainment venue to bring headline music artists back to Weston super mare, since you lost T4 on the beach a few years back, when we moved it to Margate.
The stadium would be one of the first of its kind, as we propose to build it using complete soil regeneration & recovery, Bio-diversity, zero carbon etc. One globally known band have already teamed up with DHL a blue chip courier to tour completely Green & their adverts are now being televised worldwide.
If we are lucky enough today to have your support, we possibly may be able to have a known artist support the proposal & become the face of the event.
We have a letter of intent by a TV company who wish to film the whole project from start to finish in means of a documentary, with this comes investment to Weston super mare & the resort in general.
As we will be starting from a green field site, initially the stadium would be built to accommodate 10,000 people on the developed terracing & a further 15,000 people on the inner field, this will give us 25,000 people attending subject to permission by local fireman rep & PEL.
If this can be achieved then we can bring known artist’s to the south west again, bringing in great revenue to local businesses & the resort. The stadium will be a community venue with many uses I will discuss after I present to you a scaled model which could also generate full time employment for upto 60 people. With excellent road access from the M5, local transport services & the magic 25 min walk up time, the proposed site is well placed.
Can I now unveil to you a digitally printed 3d scale model of the proposed development. (imagine something the size of a coffee table & 10 people gathered round having a look, with it being met with full support. Im glad they liked it, it was £2000.00 to have made lol)
Now you are all re-seated, you will see from the model that everything is in place including a 258 roadway from the main highway. Also there is a brown oval in the centre inner circle.
TIME TO PITCH THE SPEEDWAY….. drum roll maestro.
If the project goes ahead, we would like to also introduce professional motorcycle league speedway racing inside the stadium. With the representatives here present today, we would like to make the facility an all access training academy for youth development schools, National development league, & Televised Premier league speedway, racing. The stadium could be used for other events for other motorsport, shows, concerts & conferences.
There is a consortium of businessmen (one too busy to attend yet again) who have approached us who wish to restart a former club that closed after the lock down pandemic. We have carried out our own surveys, & feel it would be very well supported in the area, with tremendous comments, support & excitement on the internet media platforms, twitter, Instagram & the likes.
Shale Events Ltd have the full funding & backing to see the installation of a purpose built race surface to accommodate the sport & have letters of intent, that you have Infront of you to inspect, from The Consortium totalling £425.000.00 to see a Professional Management team & Promotion oversee the running of a club, if & when permission were granted. All domains both .co & .com are registered with companies house.
This would be the only Premier league Sport in the south west & with the List of Companies you have in front of you showing the business plan, you can see we are working on the same ethos as we did for Exeter City Football club who were in financial difficulty over 20 years ago. They were out the League, no crowd, holding boot sales to raise money. One visit from Michael Jackson, who didn’t even sing & a Match against Man Utd, they were back in the league & financially stable for a few more seasons in no time. We have done this in the past for Stoke city with Robbie Williams, Ipswich town with Simply Red & more recently The Killers at Ashton gate Bristol back in the summer. The funds it generates for clubs is immense.
This would be the profile we would require for the sport to have the sponsorship pledges we have infront of you come to fruitation. As you can see, they are high profile companies that by bringing their globally known branding to the resort can only be financially beneficial, not just to the Club/sport but to Weston super mare. These are Names not usually associated with Speedway racing but their input & brand awareness can only help other clubs in the country as well, hopefully helping them get better sponsorship, by these companies being introduced to the sport raising the sports profiles.
One consortium member, a former Rider himself & instrumental in the starting of the now defunct Somerset Rebels, along with the Hewlitt family many years ago, holds Speedway very close to his heart & to see it return to the area would be quite Humbling for him, & although not directly involved at present, he would ask you to give this proposal your full backing.
Again Shale Events Ltd have carried out our surveys & if you can imagine a triangle from Poole in Dorset over to Plymouth in Devon up to Oxford, there is a great catchment area from defunct clubs in Newport, Swindon, Reading & Bristol who figures show we could easily attain upto 4000 attendants per meeting on results we had returned from our surveys. Please see the figures infront of you & demographics.
You will see from the business plan, that the profit & loss figures to supply Free coach transport from pick up points in those said towns/cities, allows 52 per coach plus reduced pre-booked ticket entry, makes it possible & inviting for people to attend that may not wish to drive or travel that far. We use this ethos when putting on concerts & it works very well to supporters from further afield & reduces carbon emissions & traffic to the arena.
If you have any questions, then I welcome them, if not I would like thank you so much for attending today & would now like to hand you over to our chosen Contractor who will go through the proposal with you on the shown development.”
Mike the councillor loved the idea, even favouring the Speedway over the music at this stage, but still getting it built ready.
Then we had a question, didn’t we…?
Councillor Terry pipes up…. “Who is Brian White ?”
We replied that he was a close friend that a consortium member had asked to contact the Speedway Governing bodies to attain what licences, permits were needed to form a new club & if the defunct Rebels club had any assets or outstanding debts or claims against them or any previous promoters. We also informed all parties that he was not a shareholder in Shale Events Ltd
“What is his involvement now with this project?”
Again we replied honestly, that the named third party had been asked before xmas to have no further involvement with the moving forward of the construction as that was not his remit. He would be offered a position on the Management/Promotion side when & if the speedway was to get approval but other than that he has had no permission to contact other offices, or use any contractors’ names or logos & we were hoping this would be dealt with under a NDA agreement.
We are then handed printed off emails sent by the third party pestering the council members & ruffling feathers in higher offices, completely devaluing the initial proposal.
Now we were aware of this & made this third party aware that legal action would be taken against them if they continued to persist with this damaging actions & was removed from any further involvement because of his behaviour.
Thinking that we had covered all points on the Speedway as that wasn’t the main reason for the entertainment arena, we could & were going to move on.
But no, here’s the twist.
Terrys piped up again, “ But Brian White is claiming to have sole ownership of Somerset Rebels Speedway & this project, he has sent us numerous emails claiming he has an Alun Rossiter who has got him sole full controlling support from a Neil Vacther at the BSPL & SCB offices & that former Somerset Promoter Deborah Hancock has personally rang a Robert Godfrey at the head office today, to oppose Shale Events Ltd getting a speedway licence at all cost”
“We beg your pardon, you were contacted by the bonified contractors to say they had contacted Mr White directly, distancing themselves from him & informed him of legal action if he continued to have any dealings with them or claims, we cant believe a third party, unemployed individual, with no backing, funding, or support can contact a council & have such a detrimental effect on a multimillion pound project”

Well sadly Terry & Mike didn’t like that reply, & fired back with a comment that pretty much sums Speedway up.
“How dare you criticise a council when we are getting mails for 2 parties claiming to own this project, what do you expect us to think. We suggest you & SPEEDWAY get your own house in order before you criticise us”
And from that sadly, North Somerset Council now, no longer wish to proceed with this project & have retracted their support for the proposed arena.

On the upside….. because we always turn negatives into positives, Shale Events Ltd have managed to retain the contractors & architects should we reconsider involvement.
A representative called Neil Vatcher at the Head Office who confirmed that Brian White does NOT have the full backing as Claimed, as there is nothing to back at present.
Rossco, also got a call & would like to clear his name, stating he would support anything/promotion to see speedway return to Somerset, Swindon or even the Moon, but was disappointed his name was mentioned in Dialogue as he also was unaware of being officially involved. But he’s keen if it happens, he wished to pass onto you people. Good Ol Rossco.
As Far a Deborah Hancock calling Robert Godfrey, well that is just unbelievable & if this were to be the case then don’t panic Speedway Family, a Legal team are in place to deal with that & they wont want the financial hassle or bad press, especially poor Ol’ Billy who pledged to die before he gave up Speedway at the Oak tree arena, when we first built it.

So ladies & Gentlemen, that’s pretty much it in a nutshell, so on behalf of all the investors that pledged bonds & to the contractors, lets have a regroup & see how to move this forward, if at all. Sadly one investor has withdrawn, investing their money in the Le Mans 24hr instead, gutted.
Shale events suggest, If anyone wants any further news we suggest you contact Brian White Briangwhite67@gmail.com Or direct call 07793838787, where im sure he will answer all your questions, queries & discuss his plans with you on bringing speedway back to Somerset as he is claiming sole ownership
For Shale Events Ltd & its investors, the slant on it is “Fu*K The Speedway.”, its dead on its feet anyway & if it doesn’t happen now, we can hold our heads High as we did our bit.
Best Wishes

That’s shocking if true!  I’m not sure why he made such an effort to take it from you when he then ran it into the ground anyway.

Are you still having at go at the WSM track on your own Brian?

Just went to check on the Facebook page to see if there was any developments and looks like everything has been deleted. Looks like Greg Daniels has tried to distance himself from the whole debacle. See he has now got his feet in the door at Plymouth managing  the team at Sittingbourne today.

Best Wishes
A Spokesperson
SHALE EVENTS Ltd.

Good God. Not sure they could even come up with that in Hollywood. What a shambles.
