Season should be April - September and if any clubs can do challenges in March or October that pays then good luck to them

Didn't take long to forget covid then

People often assume more rain offs occur in October but I'm not so sure about that and every year is different. Unfortunately venues have competing events, particularly in the summer and they will run what is most profitable to them, which may not be speedway.

Maybe there is less call offs in October but is that because they run meetings in dreadful conditions? Meetings that would ordinarily be called off get pushed through to get them done before the end of the season deadline.

October 2019:

Premiership P/O SF
National League PO SF
British Youth Championship Round 7
National League Riders' Championship
Premiership P/O SF
Premiership Supporters Cup
Championship KO Cup Final
Premiership Grand Final.1
National League Grand Final.1
Championship Grand Final.1
Championship KO Cup Final
British Youth Championship
National League Grand Final.2
National League KOC Final

All postponed because of rain! All events that should have been big crowd pullers

I think the time has come to adopt this plan.  As you say run any challenge matches, testimonials, individuals in March or October, the league can then run from April to early September with the play offs late September.  Its not rocket science.  If Belle Vue get to the final along with the SoN it will be 4 massive meetings in October in Manchester.

Agree have seen many meetings run late in the season in less than ideal conditions just to get them over the line.......rider safety anyone ?

There’s been more meetings called off very early this season due to a “poor weather forecast” than I can remember this summer. All comes home to roost come October when riders coast round in mud ( eg  Kent on Tuesday )

And can also result in clubs getting lower crowds as they run more home meetings to cram them all in...

Fans then cherry pick which to attend..

Particularly on the dark, damp, colder evenings..

Eg Workington suffered by being successful and having to run so many in one month due to losing some Friday fixtures..

Ironically, not always weather related..!

As we often say so much of the issues of the sport is simply down to its own signed off operating model..

Which, with just a modicum of common sense and business acumen, could be resolved overnight..

Was thinking the other day that this has already been done in the past hasn't it? Wasn't Peter York in charge for a few years? Can't remember why he stepped down or was be reelected or whatever

That's why they've got to stop trying to rearrange these postponed fixtures if they're going to call them off so easily

Indeed Mike attended the meetings in question at Worky, all crammed in at the end of October, the last one a double header iced off, the club was on the slippery slope to the end but this did not help matters.

I always seem to be writing negative comments on the forum ........which is not good for anyone, there are good clubs out there.

I do attend Belle vue and Glasgow occasionally and on the whole are a good experience ( Glasgow v Leicester debacle :(), plus the GP series is very good, so there is light at the end of the tunnel  if we could just turn this oil tanker around in time.

Discovery, Eurosport owners today launched their 10 year SGP contract. Some really good things announced, using all their platforms, pay for view, streaming, free to air do some meetings possibly on quest.

Will be shown in more countries, more technology to be used, super slow mo cameras like in moto gp and world superbikes.

Trying to break into the spanish market speedway only moto sport with little interest at the moment

Prize money massively increased, speedway hopefully will get far bigger world wide coverage

Look on sgp site to view the launch
