Your Least Favourite Track

Even though Swindon fan since 68, and started off at New Cross, not two of my favourite tracks. Swindon, not good viewing, but track improved in recent years after being shortened. Thought Kirky Lane was poor, dangerous track and poor viewing, and not a fan of Newcastle, too small, lot of falls, or Isle of Wight, too big, not one pass.

Difficult one really as I used to enjoy visiting different tracks and seeing how they compared however my least favourites would have to include Wolves (too long straights with tight curves), Arena Essex (I visited during their first year of operation and found it weird viewing a fenceless track), Coventry (early visits when gating was all important before it was improved), Reading (basic good shape but was far too often too slick) and Newcastle (not called (B)rough Park for nothing).

Most tracks I visited regularly... West Ham, Hackney, Wimbledon for instance, or only once or twice, so difficult to say. I didn’t enjoy my only visit to Crawford.

Wolves hate it now first went in 1979/84  was pretty good . NOW is a total  homer track  any two legged affair now Wolves have the huge advantage.

Swindon sorted 'em out in that 2017 Grand Finaland swamped them in the Monmore mud 2019 semi.

I used to love going to Wolves before then it was neutral and fair.Now it is a very difficult track to ride very technical .

Oxford had a pretty good record at Wolves (Dag Lovaas was a track specialist) and, of course, during the Nielsen years we enjoyed much success as we did at most places...has to be remembered that the City "Rebels" securred the Championship back in 1977 on one memorable Sunday afternoon!

I watched two of the last three meetings at Skegness. The track was awful. A rutted dust bowl. Impossible to race on.

The worst, though, was the Derwent Park track Glasgow rode on for three-quarters of the 1987 season. I watched probably 60 per cent of the meetings. Nobody did any work on the track between matches. It resembled a Moto-X circuit. And who can forget the water-bowser-filled-with-slurry, August Bank Holiday Monday meeting against Middlesbrough? No surprise 'Workington Tigers' were kicked out of the National League that season. So many complaints from visiting teams.

Never liked Exeter - far too narrow for decent racing. I worked in the city for a short time - 1998-99 - and was picky about which County Ground meetings I attended. The opposition was usually beaten before the tapes rose on heat one. Lots of one-sided, processional thrashings. Once you'd become accustomed to how fast the riders went at Exeter, compared to everywhere else,  that was it. Hardly ever any passing.

Craven Park, Hull. Always a beautifully prepared track - Tony Swales's handiwork? - but its width and shape weren't conducive to good racing. Went there a number of times when based in North Lincolnshire. Often wondered why I bothered.

Brough Park, Newcastle? Long straights and tight bends. Used to go there fairly regularly - 1992-97 - whilst working on Teesside. One of very few tracks where the riders seem to shut off going into the corners.

No passing on the Island.... ?? Wow , when did you last attend it?  I really dispute that comment, certainly in the 6 years I have ran it with Martin there has been more, way more than most tracks for passing, in fact we actively encourage it with handicap meetings and so on. So, can you let me know when you last attended Smallbrook. Many thanks

Yes Barry about 10 years ago v Newport. Luke Chessell was riding for IOW, Kurtz for Wasps. Great little stadium and friendly peeps. Good luck

The indoor speedway track at Milner Park Johannesburg where meetings were held in the early 80's was so small that riders were virtually into the second bend before they were out of the first. It didn't make for good racing.

Never a real fan of Indoor meetings although I witnessed two at Wembley and one at the NEC. Telford didn't interest me in the slightest!
