Bikes and van recovered ( van damaged ) but he lost everything else, riding kit, tools, etc , probably around £2000 plus worth.

Insuring off road bikes is usually too expensive to be practical. A similar problem exists with tools which would often be covered while at home but not in a van which requires an additional, often separate cover. The price for tool and equipment cover isn't quite so outrageous though. Of course it would all be much cheaper if the Police actually followed up the thefts which are now at a ridiculous level. However the priority seems to be kids on electric scooters and name calling online if the different forces FB pages are to be believed. If off road bikes are recovered it is always by the public. Star Lady 5,400 Posted September 8, 2021 Thanks for the reply Vince. I know nothing about insurance for stuff like this. All in all it seems not too bad from what I’ve read bikes were recovered, tools worth £2K and £3K raised by fans.
SPEEDY69 1,250 Posted September 8, 2021 As with any insurance, it depends what the items are worth to you. I had my bikes insured for fire & theft.
GWC 495 Posted September 8, 2021 If he has a normal commercial van policy the contents isn’t normally covered. If he insured through someone like Doodsons who are racing insurance specialists and might give additional cover for bikes but spares unlikely.

From experience especially the riders in the start of their career tend to put that money in to "bling" or other machinery. You need about 4-6 years of track craft, a missed season or two down to injury before they see the light that the 1k spent on insurance might be a good thing... Bling and a sign written van are the most important bits of kit., You are 100% right
iainb 4,962 Posted September 11, 2021 Maybe, and it's always wise to say after the event, if a rider is parked up in a hotel car park over night with a van full of kit, they could ask the hotel management to park near the entrance and/or wheel clamp the vehicle... just saying.

Or wire up the van to the mains, to give the thief a nice hefty belt!

Back in the day you could happily do that... in the crazy world we live in today you'd have to put warnings up all over the place informing the would be toe rag that they might get hurt!
