6 man teams I believe were last used in 1997. Thinking back to Glasgow side of that time think was Neil Collins, Mick Powell, will Beveridge, Grant MacDonald, Brian turner and I forget the 6th rider. I believe lowest averaged rider was classed as a reserve and could take up to 7 rides. There were 12 programmed heats and 3 nominated heats. Were allowed unlimited TS if more than 8 behind

However the guest issue still existed. Think we won at Middlesbrough (could be wrong) due to a fantastic guest performance by Scott Robson.

Did you guys in the PL have six man teams in 1998 too? We did in the EL with a daft race format that more or less had R/R programmed in which any rider could be nominated into and of course it massively favoured the top heavy teams....Ipswich won the league by miles with a top three of Louis, Rickardsson and Gollob.

No we went to the 7 man teams from 98 onwards. That was issue with 6 man teams that I remember, had 3 big hitters and 3 essentially reserves on today's standards. Very rarely would 2nd strings beat heat leaders

If it is to be one league next year and if BSPL retain their 'Rising Stars' plan then every team will have 2 Rising Stars and 5 'senior' riders which imo would have to make the standard closer to this season's Championship strength!

The number of fixtures (League and Cup) should give those 2021 Double-uppers a similar financial earnings opportunity as long as clubs don't go crazy with deals.

Of course Eurosport would have to be OK with the format including doing away with Mon/Thurs fixed race nights so that every club can run on their optimum regular race night.

With so few riders in the U.K. riding abroad, clubs should ride on whatever night they wish.

Rising stars have been a bit of a joke thing this year.

Yeah the guest facility has to be looked at on particular. Flint guesting for riders with half his average been a total joke

Absolutely. Been very impressed with him this season. Definitely far better than his old man ha. System has helped flint and Palin in particular but I'm not sure the old system would exactly have held them back

Well if they stick to the so called plan it's gonna be 2 rising stars in each team next season! Oh crikey, it's surely not a game of 2 halves......it is Now!

Please don't do this, Save Our Sanity!

If doubling up disappears then the need for fixed race nights has essentially gone.

Let's face it.. we're reliant on whatever Poland decides. If same as this season will still be a dearth of rider, minus pedersen and schlein.

There are still a good number of riders that race in the UK who also race in other leagues around Europe.

Sure, there aren't many doing Ekstraliga and UK, but Polish lower leagues and the Swedish and Danish leagues still have a good few racing over here.

Think only team can’t use him is Edinburgh.

We could only use him if Kemp unavailable.

Not strictly true -- he could guest for any of your top three..........

Brian Turner rode for the Newcastle Diamonds in 1997.
