The retained list system is a private mechanism between promoters and so, as long as it doesn’t contravene equality diversity or, indeed, modern slavery legislation, there cannot be anything illegal about it. It is designed to provide a financial framework in the case of default. It has nothing to do with “employment” partly because no riders are employed.

All teams have to have a minimum value of riders on their retained list but they cannot stop any of “their” riders signing for another team so there is nothing for riders to challenge. Promoters could challenge the system if they wanted but, so far, it seems they choose to work within the existing rules.

yes, its not going to be challenged any time soon so long as promoters retain it

but they cannot stop any of “their” riders signing for another team!!

I know of a few riders that have been blocked by their “parent club” to talk to other clubs,
Ask Max Clegg for one.

There are rules about tapping up but those don’t stop a rider going where he wants. Ask Swindon about Adrian Miedinski - on Swindon’s retained list but wouldn’t ride for them.

more interesting to see the size of the lad. apparently lost a lot of weight but shall we say he doesn't look to have the usual physique of a modern day rider. doesn't look like he'll get out muscled in the first corner but will he make it there at the same time as the other less rotund riders?

i imagine he was owned by a promotion who no longer exist and his 'asset status' reverted to the BSPL when any new promotion decided not to acquire the 'asset status' of a retired rider. They're still obsessed with having an asset system in place even if you have no rights over that 'asset' beyond the season long contract you have with them.

What Promotion no longer exist.?

When Lee retired in 2012 it said he was a Sheffield Asset

Thanks, wasn’t sure if we had purchased him from Sheffield.

Heard he's been on the building side of things and had put on weight, but has been training hard and lost weight again good luck to him, looking forward to seeing him at Berwick.

After 'retiring' from speedway he took up bodybuilding and therefore put on a bit of weight, which was all muscle.  He has lost a lot of muscle weight over the last year or so.  He didn't get 'fat' as we know it, as far as I know.

Well with both Lee and Rob going to shed loads of weight to ride in the first Memorial meeting for Dave Tattum, probably should give the meeting sponsorship of the meeting to WeightWatchers, Very apt.

Wouldn't say Lee needed to lose weight, bet he's good at arm wrestling tho! ;)

I think he is too muscled and losing weight would help to made himself more manoeuvrable. He looks too muscle bound IMO and was pointed out in an earlier post..
