British Speedway statement

The answer is probably nearly a hundred. I've probably even missed a few tracks from this list (permanent tracks only), but it gives an indication of how many venues have staged speedway in the British Isles (at least 111 by my count).

Some were of course very short lived or only raced a handful of open meetings, whilst other tracks were effectively replaced by another track. However, there are still quite a few on the list that staged regular racing for many years that are no longer with us...

What about Huddersfield I think there is still a road called Stadium Drive by the John Smiths Stadium.

Made me smile. Must have been under the old 12 and a half heats formula! . I remember seeing them as a lad in a match at Blackbird Road, Leicester.

You have a point there , but at present they do pretty well in attracting a few really good partnerships which are crucial to the club's health.  If they were ever to move to within the Edinburgh City boundaries, for whatever reason, it is highly likely that sponsorships/partnerships would be likely to increase significantly.   It is 25 years since Monarchs were actually based in the City and a lot of things have changed since then as we are all aware.

What the fork springs to mind . do they sell/make forks or is a swear word cleaned up ?

ts like when my eldest was very young and we went somewhere and he came out and asked for a fork n knife .lol

No point looking backwards. The sport is at the crossroads and hopefully some new ideas will come to fruition. I like the Grasstrack style meeting Re: Isle of Wight.

The number of tracks that have disappeared over the years would suggest that the good old days were not always as good as popularly remembered... ;)

I don't know...what were the reasons for tracks shutting in the 60s/70s. Was it more redevelopment than lack of crowd?

I think many venues were tried and were financial failures. Others certainly disappeared due to development, being kicked out by the dogs or other sports.
