Gonna be another long old season I feel...

Not too long, all fixtures done and dusted by August 7th

I don't think Edwards is particularly weak, but after heat 2, he meets the 1+2 / 3+4 pairings, with Newcastle having a solid top 5, it's a difficult position (number 6)!

Top notch punditry that.

Looks like Roynon's pop at the Diamonds has inspired him more than the bad place.

Cheers, appreciate it!

Only surprise was that the Redcar heatleaders dropped 4 points (3 due to an engine fail).

I'm sure Wilson Dean, Complin and Congreve will get better and Starke might have got more than the R/R five but it's a team which is never going to take points from a team with three strong heat leaders. Home or Away.  So if your opposition is guaranteed nigh on 41 points from three riders plus another guaranteed 3 from heat 2, 8 and 12 or 14. The other four riders only need to add another 2 between them to win.

This is what happens when the teams aren't evenly matched. Hopefully the on track action was better than the scoreline suggests.

credit where credit is due.

just goes to show how limited averages are. Hopefully the lad gets a chance at no7 at some point. Seen him at Brough in 2019 when Eastbourne won with 3 heat leaders and him at reserve. Looked really talented. Seemed to get mucked about last season so hopefully he can get back on track this.

Brad has certainly made himself rather unpopular on certain social medias, even with some of the Diamonds fans. Wonder what sort of a reception he'll get next Sunday, disaster waiting to happen? Especially if he doesn't perform

Historically Newcastle sports fans have wanted someone to hang their hats on - Shearer, Fabulous, McDonald, Owens, Mauger, Wilkinson. Even with an average 6 blokes below him they need someone like this. Hope they find one and soon or I fear for their future.

Nice to see the bikes out again watching from back straight riss coming off 2nd bend how he misses the fence by inches at speed, one slight complaint the home straight fence hadnt been painted looked dirty not a good look for first meeting!

Redcar Bears Speedway Please please please would you reconsider the positioning of the sponsor banner right in front of the starting gate. It has completely destroyed the exciting viewing spectacle of the start of the race as fans who stand near the front of the tapes can now only see the riders heads. It has removed all the enjoyment of the start watching for rolls, tape touching, flyers etc. Appreciate sponsors need to be highlighted but surely not to the detriment of the viewing fans?

Started my 48 season with trip to Redcar suspecting what be outcome for the diamonds .losing starke before wheel was turned didn’t help r/r was not ideal.but considering we had a rider coming back after 10yrs and one back after missing most last season through injury. On top of Congreve’s first meeting in this country and Wilson dean missing a few years.I think righting this team off after one meeting is jumping the gun. The diamonds gating was not great last night apart from James wright’s when he beat Riss in heat4.If Congreve can improve has gating he score a few points as was on pace and was giving a good go in last race when fell.Didn’t really see what happened between roynon and bwd but considering how time roynon had spent injured might have been a bit silly thing to do.

Well can only be upwards for diamonds and any speedway in Newcastle is better than none.

Positives from last night - 6 Diamonds riders got some laps in.

Negatives from last night (apart from the obvious) - 2 min warning light off bend 4 needs a bulb in it.  The Programme was full of mistakes (eg Peter Complin, Stewart Robson, but there was many others).  Not a fan of having an interval, just as the temperature starts to drop, especially for those who like to stay behind to watch the Juniors.  Fine in the middle of summer, but not while still in March!

Still have to give riders (especially Brad, Matty and Lee who are all coming back from injury/retirement) time to settle in.  George hasn't seen, let alone rode, any of the tracks (apart from  Leicester), so must be given a little leeway, but it will be interesting to see how he does when he starts making the gate.  A race win will give his confidence a massive boost.

Get well soon Paul Starke.

Strange that all the negatives were Redcar related ……Oh well.

I would have thought the “obvious” should be more of a concern to Diamonds supporters.

Diamonds have not got a bona-fide number 1 in Wilson Dean. His last Greensheet average in middle tier of racing was 6.00, in 2018. For Workington and Peterborough. His average for Peterborough in 2019 in the top flight was 5.47. Cut short by injury.
