BERWICK v BELLE VUE (Saturday, May 7th, 7pm)

Recommended Posts

With the GHT Bullets currently sitting proud at the top of the NDL table, the team most-predicted to win the league arrive at Shielfield on Saturday.

The Berwick public have been spoiled by their last two CL meetings -- with the ever-present uncertainty of the NDL lads, this could be a barn-stormer!

Adults: £10, Concessions/OAPs/Students: £10, Juniors (12-15 years): £3, Children (under 12): £1       Car parking: Free

GHT Bullets: 1 Kyle Bickley, 2 Kieran Douglas,  3 Greg Blair, 4 Ben Rathbone, 5 Luke Crang, 6 Mason Watson, 7 Ace Pijper

Cool Running Colts:  1 Jack Smith, 2 Sam McGurk, 3 Nathan Ablitt, 4 Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, 5 Harry McGurk, 6 Archie Freeman, 7 Freddy Hodder

Predictions, folks?

Not sure if its an inspired or crazy riding order from the Colts? Ablitt is the key man for the visitors but the Bullets look far to strong at home for the "fancied" Colts. If Pijper can keep calm and sit still at the tapes i can see a double figure return for him.

Bog standard riding order from both teams.

Pair the No.1 with the 5th average.   2nd best rider at No.5.  Remaining two can go at 3&4 either way around.  Used to be fashionable to put the strongest reserve at No.7, but these days teams seem to give the easier No.7 spot to the weakest rider, and swap them around during the meeting as necessary.

(Also, we're assuming that is the riding order, and not just someone guessing at what the riding order will be, and listing them in the most obvious order).

Not knocking Harry but id rate Ablitt as second strongest rider (actually strongest but averages say different) . Trend for running 2nd strongest at 3 to score big throughout meeting and still be available for heat 15. Hoping Colts put up a big fight here.

These are the declared line-ups.

The only team that worries me in regards to our home form.

Ace has started off better than any of us truly expected… we mustn’t forget though that this is only his 1st 500cc season. As long as he continues to enjoy his racing, stops putting pressure on himself at the gate and develops at his own comfortable pace then that’s job done for him. He’s shown he has the Pijper style and mentality for passing!

Going to be bold and predict a 48-42 score line!

Is it after these matches that Ben and Keiron move to reserve?

Thought I seen somewhere that they are now at reserve.

Averages after tonight at Oxford (four matches) which come into effect seven days later. In practical terms the new line-up will be used for the first time when the Bullets face Kent on May 21. Unless something truly bizarre happens at Oxford then Mason and Ace will trade places with Ben and Kieran.

Added pressure on young Pijper having been elevated from the reserve berth so soon

From what I saw at Oxford he should cope without the slightest difficulty. In fact it will remove what appeared to be his biggest problem as he will no longer be having so many extra rides.

Will a live stream be available of the meeting?

Quite a remarkable jump -- Ace goes from an assessed average of 3.00 to 7.58 in one fell swoop!

Mason Watson has also improved impressively, up from 3.91 to 5.75  -- and his sterling performance at Oxford will increase him again.

The new averages kick in after tonight's meeting -- Ben and Kieran will be reserves against Kent on May 21st.

The good news is only 1 person has Pijper in their fantasy team (sadly not me) . The improvement from Watson is probably more noteable and with the other 2 second string dropping to reserve Berwick continue to look a strong prospect this season.

Wow! That was an advert for the NDL! A superb meeting. How you wish Greg Blair misses the gate every heat! Simply superb to watch!
