Guest riders

Recommended Posts

Once again the speedway season is being blighted by the rampant and seemingly out of control use of guest riders, many of whom seem to be far superior to the riders that they are replacing.

Perhaps it would be a useful idea to introduce a rule to the effect that:

1. A guest rider cannot be used as a tactical substitute.

2. A guest rider cannot be nominated for a heat 15 ride.

Any thoughts on something like this?

What about, a guest rider cannot be replaced once declared, just because a better rider becomes available ???

Aren't the guest rules dictated by averages,,, so really that's only an opinion?

'Horses for corses' tho.

What about, you can only take 1 guest booking per week and you can't guest for the same team, or at the same track more than once a month ?

Yes in theory your right, but we all know that certain riders ride certain tracks better than the rider they're replacing.

Just ban them.Or make it count towards their average.

Maybe the guys at the BSPL should do a set of averages for every rider at every track?,,, it might eliminate booking track specialists, it might get a bit tricky trying to keep track of all riders away averages at different tracks. Finding suitable guests may become a bit more complicated tho, wading thru more and more charts.

Aye, that might show who is on a 'guarantee' or who is trying to trim they're official average? ;)

With all the comments I see about lack of riders and a lot racing abroad half the week I wonder if there would there be enough available as guests is appearances were limited?

A question I have on guests is whether there is a limit to how many guests a team can have for one meeting?  Think it was last week there were 3 guests in a team for one meeting.

I guess technically you could have 6 guests and r/r in operation plus a number 8?

I know I've no complaints we've all used them to our advantage in past. Think we used Leon in place of jack Smith couple times last season with the RS flawed rules.

Maybe there shouldn't be any team members apart from 2 managers. The first 14 or 16 riders to rock-up are in, the 2 managers can do rock, paper, scissors to see who gets 1st pick and so on? ;)
