But we've been serving scrag end for years, and it's working well! Why should we change?

But they do serve scrag end with healthy portions of guests and rider replacements.

With proper management, a proper plan for the future & a product that is decent enough to be sold to those outside of speedway maybe the sport could have a future maybe even a bright one.

Shouldn't make an comparison's to any other sport but all you need to do is look at the ladies euros to see what can happen with some vision.

Vision and a very large chunk of dosh!!!

The BSPA had the very large chunk of Dosh, during the early sky years...... sadly no vision.

The sport just makes me so cross should be one of the best sports out there.

What we could do is sell tickets for the price of a McDonalds meal and give out a few freebies and tell the media it was a sell out. We should also promote British speedway as being the same standard as the Polish Extraliga and if anyone dares say any different we call them uneducated ignorant oinks.

Seemed to work well for the Women's Euro's :)

Several No1's  pocketed some real top money from Sky's millions...

Then promptly "foxtrot oscared" from racing in the UK the very second the money stopped...

Can't blame them for that they have to earn as much as they can in a relatively short career.

Indeed..

But what a waste of a huge cash injection for the sport..

With the legacy being what we currently have...

it worked for several national and world leaders and even trickles down to the workplace where bullhitters and self promoters get on through hype. Making people believe things is a piece of cake

I don't blame them for maximising their earnings... but they could go and get another job like millions of others have to do when they have their careers ended through redundancy etc. Why should they be any different to the rest of us?

Of course in the "Good Old Days" many, if not most, riders had second jobs excepting the "stars"...postmen, mechanics, milkmen etc. I recall even Terry Betts working in a garage during the winter months although he was on a good earner whilst at King's Lynn apparently based upon the number attending which of course wouldn't amount to much nowadays!

Too many riders expect to make a living from the sport nowadays and it's not sustainable on those attending.

And they want to make a full time living after forking out tens and ten of thousands of pounds or euros on kit that promoters want and need them to have...

And they want and need them to have the best kit to try and win competitions that the very same promoters then completely devalue by using an unfit for purpose operating model that they personally design...

Forking out fortunes to earn even bgger money to live on, and all to win competitions that carry very little financial reward or media and sponsorship interest..

Could be a University Masters Degree Course somewhere unravelling all of the multiple layers of that as "a plan"...:D

Promoters are sticklers for having a maximum points limit. Imagine if they introduced a rule for the maximum spent on equipment. All that money going out of the sport.

Aye... Give 'em a bike rack, some black leathers, a pair of cricket gloves, football shirt and socks, and a neckerchief, and they're good to go...
