Very sad to hear about Wally. Another Romford connection has gone in less than a week following Ross. Thanks for the memories Wally if you hadn't brought speedway to Romford I may never have found our great sport. My thoughts are with your family and friends. RIP

Another great from a time when Speedway was the second biggest spectator sport in Britain.
Because of his strong Exeter connections we used to call him "Wicked Wal" at Weymouth but it was all good fun and he took it in good spirit (at least I think he did!).
R.I.P Wally. The sport could do with a few like you nowadays.

Despite the problems that Swindon encountered after Wally left in the early/mid 80's he was THE promotor that transformed the way the club was run after the nelson chandler years and im very sad to hear this news...he seemed to have a lot of respect for and from riders back then hence becoming england manager and high up amongst the bspa....good bloke and never scared of transition. 79/80 would go down as a special time for me especially with the standard of meetings at Blunsdon those years namely many high quality individual meetings and the signings of Crump Autrey and Gresham. Condolences to his family and rest in peace Wally.

More sad news to start the year with.
My dad worked with Wally whilst at Swindon (& possibly Exeter?) & was the promoter at Swindon when Dad had his testimonial.
Dad always said Wally was good to work with, easy to deal with & said it how it was.
Condolences to the family
