  1. Thanks mate. Will give it a whirl tonight.

Hi Hammer, go into kodi on the firestick, then follow the instructions on the website www.speedwaykodi.com under the section GET SPEEDWAY KODI. You don't need to do section 1, just 2 and 3.

Any problems come back to me and I can message you with further instructions

    Andy

  2. Exactly. I noticed an advert for the darts during the meeting last night and it's teh same with football. Sky focus and show the stars that will draw the punters in. Simple as that.

I'm sure they are told by Sky bosses to keep building up Ward.....Sky want stars in all the sports they cover and want to build stars that will entice people to watch..they do it in a number of sports .
Ward is a box office rider whether people like it or not and its only right he is championed by the Sky team, they are a commercial channel after all.

  3. As many of you know i am new to the sport. As a person Darcy has made some bad mistakes and I can see why some look down on that. On the flip-side I think riders like Darcy, Tai and a few others are perfect to be in the limelight on Sky etc. I think this is the way to attract new and younger fans. As most of us know, when you are younger you look at the stand out figures in each sport and undoubtedly Darcy has stuck out for the wrong reasons but his riding speaks for itself and I for one think that if the focus is on his riding it can only be a great thing for the sport as he is a very exciting rider. Now let's hope Ward keeps hitting the headlines for the right reasons. I really enjoyed that meeting last night.

  4. I had a situation a while back where a forum member was convinced I was posting under multiple user names. Nothing would convince him otherwise so I gave up trying and decided to ignore him.

Inevitably given the number of members there are a tiny number of wind-up merchants. Ignore them and enjoy debating with the overwhelming number on this forum...a great bunch who love their speedway.

Thanks mate. I have to say you were one of many that took time to answer my questions and offered great moot points. Cheers!

  5. I am not sure if it is suggested that I am some sort of "rabbit" - Like I created this post for some ulterior motive and to get people debating etc?

I have always been a firm believer in if you do not know, then do not be afraid to a ask, and with my limited understanding of speedway I started this post as I had seen a lot of moaning on facebook speedway groups and wondered what was so bad (in the eyes of many) about a sport I had really grown to like in a short time but knew little about. So, I thought I would ask here after reading some great posts.

I hate being ignorant about a subject I take interest in and have had some wonderful replies to my post and had some great inbox messages from people willing to loan me DVD's, suggest videos and books and the time taken by people here has shown me that there are people that do love the sport and the same people have also succinctly shown me why some people do complain.

I also wanted to hear views from people that know a lot more than I ever will and in turn could help me understand a bit more about a sport that I am willing to learn lots about. And you know what, the best advice I received was? It was along the lines of, "it's four blokes riding high powered bikes with no brakes and all going for the win - Nothing more" and that was a great way to stop me frying my own brain with rules and regs that a newbie could get bogged down with.

Seriously, I would like to thank anyone that took the time out to post on this thread and to those that inboxed me I thank you. If anyone thinks I am here for a wind up I will quietly leave and stick to facebook for any info and questions I have.

I hope to stick around here but do not what anyone to think any post I make is someone else trying to put a cat among the pigeons as I would be just wasting my own time as the posts would not be taken seriously.

Cheers to you all once again that have taken the time to reply.

  6. A bit early to start betting on a sport that you claim to have little knowledge of? How will you know who to back as a winner for example?

:::: Make a note - Vic Duggan and Jack Parker retired years ago so don't have them as your betting favourites!!

Fair comment mate but just a few quid that would make it more interesting for me. That's all. I have bet on elite league before by looking at the table, past results and who I may fancy on teh night. Not big money or anything.

  7. the site sometimes makes you cynical - i know it does me

for example some may feel that Hammers66 is a made up profile for one of the regulars to provoke some discussion - like the double point rule, etc

as i say the site makes you cynical - plus its happened before

Hi Mate. and thanks for your reply. A shame that anyone would think this was a made up profile but I suppose that is the way of the internet world this could be the case.

I watched the speedway in Sweden last night and thought that was a good meeting.

  8. Great post mate and thanks for taking the time to explain that to me. That is all new to me and does seem very unfair as ws you say, a team can ride well and claim the points but then can have a deficit taken away by one ride - That makes no sense to me at all.

Will keep my eye out for any races at Glasgow and try and watch some on TV if on.

Yeah, I really want to get to a meeting but as a non-driver it is not the easiest but will do my best.

The double points rule (which I personally detitest) Goes like this, if a team are 10 or more points down after heat 5 then they can nominate a rider to go out in the Black and White helmet colours to get double points for his team, whether it be is own ride or to come in, in place of another rider. If he finishes in front of the oppostion the he gets double pionts ie first 6 points second 4 points third 2 points and last as quite a few do nothing.

If he finishes first then what was a 20 points to 10 could then become 21 to 18 if both the riders finished first and second, it is all how well they race.

I think it is totally unfair that a team has ridden their guts out and got a 10 point lead to see the Black and White come out and if they have done well to bring them to within 3 points of the other team, I say if a team as rode well and got that far in front than that is how it should stay.

The best thing they could do to make speedway much more competative is as stated on here already, out of the box factory sealed engines, with no tunning allowed ( let them do it in the GP's if they want but leave the leagues out of it) get rid of the tacticle rides, bring the stadiums in this centuary, not as some of them are, stuck in the 1960's dog track era with the fans in grey macks trillby's and silk scalves. It has to move on and they only way to bring in the fans is to get all of the stadiums upgraded that need it. There are so many around the country that are a total disgrace. The only way you would dare go to the toilet would be to stand on the roof with a gas mask on.

Lucky for me I go to Leicester Lions and this has only been built for 4 years, the toilets are superb, the racing may be suspect at times, more bad racing than good over the last 4 years but it is getting better, Needs to get better still, but that needs track shape changes that will never happen under the currewnt owners.

The track that really needs praise is the way that the new owners of Glasgow have pored one and a half million or so was stated into bring that track up to scratch. Such a shame it is so far away from me. Would love to see it in the flesh, so to speak.

Hammers66 I do hope you make at to a live meeting, there is nothing that can compare, to when those 4 riders are at the tapes, nearlly make the hair stand up on the back of your neck.

  9. You may not get the whole meeting in one "video" but Peter was in heat 3, heat 7, heat 9, heat 14, and heat 20. Add the heat number into your search, or you may see them listed.

Also, in Australia there are some VERY big tracks, this clip if from Melbourne 1985 and shows Simon Wigg in about 4 maybe 5 races popping wheelies along the straights doing probably 80mph+ before throwing the bike ionto the corner.

    Enjoy

    Many thanks mate!

  10. I think people Like Tai, Darcy, Pederson (love him or hate him) and a few others are a good draw too. i know when I first started watching the sport these were the names that stood out. This helped draw me in and gave me a good starting point and names to look out for.

As a newbie, could someone explain the double points rule, as I Havel got a clue?

Someone mentioned it earlier and I have to say I like the sound of a knock out cup.

I am desperate to get to my first meeting but do not drive. Hoping to get to Lakeside one day!

  11. Hi Hammer, you have to throw into the equation the fact that some people just enjoy a good moan. If you haven't worked it out already you'll soon work out that it's the same ones that never have anything good to say. Makes you wonder why they have anything to do with them sport if it upsets them so much and the only conclusion you can draw is they are sad dos that enjoy a good moan. For he rest us I gues we are on an addictive roll or coaster that makes you feel you want to throw yourself of a cliff when your team is doing badly and has you walking on air for days after a good win.

Apart from the chronic complainers the rest of the banter should be taken wit.h a large shovel of salt. Most fans my arem ok when You meet up with them.

Thanks for great response. This thread has already restored my faith in passionate fans that just love the sport for what it is and are not around it to pick holes in it at every opportunity.
