All seems very strange. Also in his role as second half mentor he will be travelling over for the CL only meetings to take part in a 4 heat (2 rides each?) event after the main meeting. That sort of event makes sense for Ablitt & Laurence but seems a heck of a travel for Verge.

And he’s outgrown that!

Maybe the Seagulls ae looking to add riders to their "squad" who can ride  the away tracks  ??

So where does Danno Verge fit in?

He's not in the Eastbourne NDL 1-7, so he can't ride there, and his average and ability level would make him ineligible for MSDL under any rules the MSDL have ever had, so he can't ride there.

Seems his only hope of gettng rides would be to sign for Belle Vue as they are the only team not to have named a full 1-7 yet

I can only guess / surmise that Verge & Atkins will be interchangeable due to them being declared as squad members rather than team members as per the other announcements? I suspect there has been a non announced rule change so that either squads can be utilised or guests that are not in another 1-7 can/should be used?

I actually think the unsigned guest is a good idea, open to future abuse but still a good idea and adds a little credibility to the system.

There's no squad system.  And guests are only allowed for missing No.1's this year.   So if Atkins was missing, he can only be replaced by R/R or a 3.00 rider, and Verge is way above being a 3.00 rider.

Good point just found the press release regarding guests etc so it makes even less sense now.....

“If any riders are missing, it is now a Guest or R/R for a missing No.1, and then it is R/R for one rider missing in the positions 2-5.

“If two riders are missing in the 2-5 positions, then it is R/R and an unattached 3.00 pointer. This is to try and eliminate the number of doubling-up riders we have in the NDL.

“So if your team has two missing riders on higher-league duty that day, then it’s a guest and R/R, not two guests etc, as it was previously.

How many Junior leagues are there ? The PL have announced their Junior initiative. Is there an MSDL aswell ? Knowing the difficulty as I do of getting riders to ride in these Mini Junior Leagues will there be enough riders to go round ?

That is true. So to avoid Atkins being covered by R/R is there another new rule that they haven’t told us about where you can sign a squad member to cover another specific rider? It gives more credibility than using a random rider each week or being under strength. But it poses a problem for another team if they get an injury and want to sign a rider such as Verge.

How about adopt a 'London Contract' similar to the 'Warsaw Contract' in Poland... For example, if Danno signed a contract like this with Eastbourne and Kent approached him as they have had injury troubles, DANNO has the choice whether he moves or not and Eastbourne can't block it... Means that Danno can sign as a squad rider, but if another teams comes calling to offer him an actual 1-7 teamplace, then he can leave as he wises to get more rides... A lot can be learned from Polish speedway

Or possibly a new rule has been bought out this year similar to the 'Covid Guest' rule in Poland... If for example a member of the Eastbourne team tests positive for Covid, Danno can jump in and replace them in the team? A new rule just for this year to cover potential Covid problems?

Why not just replace a missing rider with a junior,  after there is all this talk about improving the standard of the the sport in GB by introducing new young talent. As usual the NDL will be overrun with guests  within weeks.

If there is a new rule they should come out and say there’s a new rule as it’s overshadowing Danno’s Signing !

They have given Danno a 2 year deal to give him stability, perhaps Eastbourne doing their usual and thinking long term as well as the here and now, and he has agreed to be one of the mentors for the really young riders as they get into the development leagues. I also expect he would have been thinking he was without any rides this season once the IOW pulled out, other than waiting for someone  to be injured or dropped, at least now has a good chance of moving up and on over the next 2 years.
