im just glad someone is making an effort to keep speedway running in that area, its ok for us doom mongers to call it out but people there looked to enjoy it. hot weather and it didn't become a dust bowl.6 points

Then having to tell them that one of your Teams riders scored a maximum against one of your biggest rivals to help them to an away match in the League.6 points

Speedway is dying especially in the championship, the crowds are poor. Scunthorpe crowd on Friday against Workington can not have been any more than 400 and even the crowd at Workington on Saturday was not what it should have been with lovely weather but I think tha't down to Workington running on a Saturday afternoon. Workington are forced to ride on a Saturday afternoon really as the Friday teams have that blocked off and Sundays goes up against the rugby team in Workington so that a no go. They do not have floodlights but I certainly think they should look at a 6pm start as they would not need floodlights and could give people the chance to attend who work Saturdays or familys that have things on during the day. The football has finished for Workington Reds but they have been getting crows over 1000 this past season and they had a poor year on the pitch they ended up averaging 760 for the season. You look at crowds on the TV at other tracks and you do think how are they making this pay. Speedway needs to do something as the fixtures are so spread out fans find other things to do, Workington don't ride for two weeks now would have been longer if they had not put the Edinburgh meting on 24th May.5 points

From memory last year GLA during the season had 2 three week breaks and only rode four home meetings in June and July. There are enough dates but perhaps not the will to push the Friday clubs to alternate days. If riders got more meetings in the Championship they may not need to seek racing abroad which is often where the rider availability problems come from IMO. I accept having fewer meetings lowers the cumulative losses of some clubs but with reports of tiny crowds at some recent meetings perhaps the losses at certain tracks could now be higher than if they ran 2H/2A. After three seasons of more blank weeks than fixtures the customers have spoken and probably lost interest and/or found something else to do. They will only take so much of being taken for granted.4 points

Common sense says so, but the promotors seem to be happy with the status quo or the riders are holding a gun to there heads. Either way speedway is dying a slow death in this country. There is a combine total of 16 teams. The fans deserve to see all those teams at their local track, not Edinburgh six times a year! If the riders can't make it pay, then they should go and do what most riders did in 70s/80s get a job. Speedway gets far lower attendances than non league football. The lowest attendance team in the Vanarama National League this season was Braintree Town FC, average 1.147 per match. The top team in that league was Southend United FC average 7.339 per match!! I know football is a different sport, but this is semi pro football we're talking about. Who is the best attended team in speedway? Maybe Poole. They might match the lowest clubs attendance, but are miles behind the top team in that league. Yet the riders expect full time professional wages! It's crazy they either become semi pro or the sport will give them no choice but to.4 points

Nicki is becoming WWF, you can’t say it’s not entertaining though3 points

Well, if sacking your temporary number seven and replacing him with another temporary number seven isn’t the sign of a club sh*tting themselves, then I don’t know what is.😂3 points

No even if as alleged Batch wasn't trying 13 others were and for me that's where the focus should be. I don't need anyone to speak for me especially someone as negative as you are. Was a decent nights racing with some good heats and for me the score doses not reflect the meeting. Always thought Scunthorpe would be the winners as we are strong at home3 points

The same Kerr that rode in the semi-final, even going as far as making sure he qualified through the run-off. And the one that is in this week's Speedway Star speaking about how he believes he's capable of winning on his day. Common sense tells you that it's obviously another reason.3 points

As I have been saying for some time, riders today can turn up and if they are not bothered, that’s it, heat leaders like Batch are probably on a guarantee equivalent to 7 or 8 points anyway. And promoters wonder why they lose money!3 points
-
Disgusting that Lawson and Kerr not doing the British final All those years certain Poole fans complaining about Tai not doing it but now it’s Poole riders it’s fine Crap excuse that they can’t win it … my first one was 1990 and only Tatum Wigg Doncaster maybe Cross could win it … never stopped the others racing3 points

The long range weather forecast suggests that we could have a dry summer and possible drought. How will that be dealt with? If the club want to contact me I have solution which would also eliminate queues at the toilets!2 points

I assume Doyley got excluded there for moving at the start? It was barely perceptible to the human eye! Ridiculous!2 points

Necessary evil... There is no alternative... Guest have been around for years... Etc, Etc, Etc ... There is a very fundamental reason why no mainstream coverage, large companies, and plenty of fans themselves, don't take Speedway (in the UK), too seriously... Your example of what happens regularly (virtually every week), is the clear reason.. Colluding with the promoters it actually means something is a prerequisite for fans who do want to take it seriously and pretend...2 points

I would be more worried about what is happening at Plymouth, your number 1 not exactly pulling trees up, so trot on back to your Plymouth thread2 points

From what I remember, no when it was the one big league, but in the split divisions, they were strong. Having said that, I think they only lasted one season - 1997 - before going out of business. Carl Stonehewer and Martin Dixon were there key riders, if I recall correctly.2 points

So Poole have sacked matt marson already so much for having no pressure or expectation on him. Who's next?2 points

I'm a bit pissed off with the bad press Mark gets. He almost single handedly keeps Plymouth going. I know he's a bit marmite but personally I have a lot of time for the guy.2 points
-
Thats the bit no one in authority seems to grasp but will act surprised when clubs go to the wall or switch to NDL only. I suspect if the Championship went down to 5 or 6 teams they'd still cling to 1H/1A whatever the cost.2 points

Boews is not the problem he's on a 5 point average, seeing tracks for the 1st time, and will be an asset of the club after X number of meetings, yes the attitude of batch is a big problem, but and it's a big but, who on a 8.5 average is available to replace him, palm tree not the answer, a lot of comets fans can remember he once signed for the comets, only to walk away for a better deal at Peterborough, sitting travel issues were the problem.. got to get behind the club and support them through this sticky patch, if no support through the turnstile no comets going forward. Off the top of my head, we had to endure a 15 minutes wait between heats 3 and 4, then a 32 - yes, 32 - minutes wait between heats 12 and 13. I actually thought BSN did their best to plug those ridiculous gaps. An utterly dreadful advert for speedway, that circuit. No wonder Plymouth can’t find a main sponsor. Who wants associated with that?2 points

If 8 clubs wanted 2H/2A then that's what they would have voted for. I can't believe they'd stick to 1H/1A just to keep Oxford trebling up. More likely the Friday clubs Edinburgh, Glasgow, Redcar & Scunthorpe want to race 99% of their home fixtures on a Friday, 2H/2A would mean more chance of having to race on an off race night.2 points

Was my first visit to Leicester speedway today. Really impressed with the view all round the stadium, the friendliness off all the staff, love the golf buggy shuttling between car park and track. Unfortunately the track was dusty most of the afternoon and having been watered after heats 4, 7 and 11 things were still dusty to the point where Ace Pjiper gave up his lead in heat 12 as he couldn't see where he was going and shut off. Bit more grading and half the track was watered before heat 13 (brilliant race by the way between Cairns, Scott & Harrison) and heat 14 was run in more clouds of dust before they called it a day because 'it would have taken too long to refill the bowser'. Not sure if this was because the water pressure was low (taps in bogs were a dribble after the meeting) or if the pressure was low because the bowser was being filled but it was a bit unsatisfactory despite the result having long been decided, another dose of heat 13 would have been nice. That apart really enjoyed the afternoon out. Real shame the refreshments outlets were cash only as they missed out on my custom and most of those with me, card machines are surely a given a quarter of the way through the twenty first century. Great little speedway venue. Will be back. EDIT just seen @flagrag 's reply regarding water supply1 point
-
The tanks and pond were empty and was just pulling up sludge and large stones from the bottom. It would have taken around 2-3 hours to fill the bowser with tap water but arrangements being made to fill the tanks overnight ready for track preparation for Thursday and may even get some rain on Monday1 point

frazer bowes the kid has has what 3 or 4 meeting and he has scored in every one i think the lad will come good i have no doubt very poor to ask for him to be dropped so early into the season you have much bigger problems to deal with and dropping cook for batch was one of your first problems1 point

thing is its not just a disappointment for the away fans its also same for home fans, the home fans want to see some effort from an away rider no.11 point

What an advert for speedway Ashfield is. A great evening of racing and an excellent result to go with it. I’ve been critical of Flint in the past, but take a bow son. We know what to expect with Harris, but Flint sensational. I thought Edinburgh were remarkably fortunate with the decisions in heats two and thirteen. For heat two, I can understand the decision because Perry goes down untouched, but let’s call a spade a spade, he hit the deck because Marson had little control over his bike. Perry would have passed him three bends earlier had he, again, had control of his bike. For heat thirteen, Polis - who I rate and was surprised by tonight - was all over the place; completely erratic. Had Harris not taken evasive action entering bend two, he’d have been on the deck and Polis would have been excluded. He didn’t though; he chopped it and came under the Pole while Howarth raced around him - or was about to - until he was obstructed. If you obstruct a rider going quicker than you, you’re both crashing. Regardless of whether your handlebars are in front or not; common sense should prevail. Great night, bizarre decisions.1 point

Batchelor should be sacked on the spot after tonight. Absolute joke!1 point
