A couple of things came out of last nights GP to my mind, firstly, what a poor attendance with empty seats all around the stadium, followed quickly by, what a dreadful track, so slick that the chance of passing was almost zero, and produced one of the most boring GPs since its inception, the people that stayed away obviously knew something.
Having said that, what a revelation and a shake up for the establishment did we have with Emil Sajfutdinov, at the first attempt, made winning a GP look the easiest thing in the world, absolutely fantastic - It must have made Bomber and Scotty think very deeply after an inept performance from both of them - Both looked Slow, neither could gate, and looked out of their depth.
Worrying, that in an interview with Bomber he said, he was happy with his early season performances, if he really is, then his personal ambition must be very low indeed, because his racing career has badly stagnated since 2007 - perhaps its finance, and if it is, it would perhaps be understandable in the present climate, but i rather think its professionalism, application and desire that is lacking, his gating is of novice standard.
As for Scotty, look, he is never going to win the GP, and at his age, rather than take a season out from Britain complaining of fixture conjestion, he really should be maximising his income, he is a good league rider in all countries, he needs in the absence of substantial funding, to accept this, at the moment he is easily Britains best rider, but in the next 2 years or so, he will be knocked off this mantle by the up and coming young brits.
My final thought was this, instead of promoters investing great sums of money, making riders their own assets, in a sport where you may not be able to use them beyond a particular season, maybe, the BSPA should all get together and use this circulating money to sponsor the British Lads, particulary the young guys, so they can afford the very best machinery, and ultimately make a mark on the world stage in years to come. This will lift the image of the sport in the eyes of Supporters, Media and especially Sky TV, and crowds would be attracted back to this wonderful, yet declining in popularity sport.
