Frank Arnold was said to be behind an attempt to bring speedway to the Mitcham Stadium in 1947.I wonder was there ever an attempt at a couple of other South London stadia I.e Wandsworth and the short lived Battersea stadium?

In 1948 there was an application host speedway at Charlton.Was that then at the Greyhound stadium?

It does bring back some of my earliest memories of the sport.Not the attending,but hearing the bikes from the end of my street.Even i guess during school holidays,when I used to hear the riders practicing on a Friday morning/afternoon at Plough Lane.I was too young to stray from our road though

Well it seems the cars started over a decade after speedway had closed,so maybe circumstances had changed.Possibly those who had previously complained no longer lived near the track?

Interesting to read that not only poor crowds (not surprising given the proximity to other,more established clubs) but also complaints from neighbours about noise,is given as reasons for the closure of Walthamstow. Not quite the modern phenomenon it is made out to be

Never even visited Walthamstow even though some of my family including my mum come from the area.Stadium that is,I have of course visited Walthamstow to see family

Boley Proch is name from the past!!Forced out of the Racers team mid-season.Who was the other Polish Racer a year or so earlier who if I remember rightly was involved in a crime?Sure it was answered years ago on here,but can’t for the life of me remember the answer.
