Ward Can He Win The Title This Year.?
SCB replied to stratton's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I don't think anyone anywhere has tried to claim Darcy is not good or is boring. We all agree he's wonderfully exciting, he's truly gifted and has all the talent to win a fight for the World Title. Just some of us think he's a horrible human being. -

I'll throw in Kenny Carter too. A disgusting human being. However, there no denying he was pretty awesome on a bike. -
I know I should but this made me LOL

Agreed. Hopefully and EF on he last bend of the final GP seeing him pipped on the line for the title. -
My sisters boyfriend often has a bet on the speedway. He doesn't know a great deal but he's worked out red and green win most races in the week and watches the gate stats in a GP. Thanks to this betting getting him interested he's talking about going to Cardiff this season. So gambling has attracted one fan

Why the hell do the mods allow post about "Slough Speedway" to be posted? it has a thread in the General Section that frankly shouldn't be there and if thats not bad enough we have to put up with pointless, inane comment about "Slough Speedway" on other threads. It wasn't funny in the first place it's now just annoying. And to think we had to stop talking about betting on the meeting threads as it was upsetting people, it was totally relevant to the meeting, more so that fake speedway teams.

The Cardiff White City track is now a housing estate with no obvious signs anywhere there was once a speedway (or greyhound) stadium there. The Penarth Road Stadium that hosted speedway from 51-53 is now an industrial estate with a road called "Stadium Close" which I'm guessing is where the stadium once stood. (edit, Stadium Close would be pretty much where the 4th bend was looking at old photos and maps) Apparently Cardiff has hosted speedway at 4 stadiums, the Millenium Stadium is the 3rd but I can find no reference to a 4th, anyone got any ideas?

Sometimes when I read a Daily Mail article and I wonder I'm reading The Onion and vice-versa such is the perverse World we live in. When I read Red Pandas post I couldn't for the life of me decide if it was a parody or not, I'm still not sure. -
They may well do but that'll just get them into the play-offs when they'll lose to the better teams and you'll end up with nothing from the bookies.

I dont see what makes you better than Leicester or Lakeside ATM Looking again, Swindons almost as bad! Nick Morris as a heatleader is going to struggle to score much more than 3 or 4, two pretty naf reserves. massive pressure on the top 2 IMO. I've got the league as being a top 4 (Poole, Coventry, BV and Lynn), a bottom 4 (Leicester, Birmingham, Eastbourne, Lakeside) and the middle of Swindon and Wolves

He had a second chance, he then got drunk and high and run from the police. So hes on a 3rd chance now. -
How have they got Eastbourne so high? :/ Not seeing that, Rye House look great value to me, a few risk but if they come off... Also Berwick

Surely a track record is a track record? How is it determined that Coventry NL track record is the time from an Under 19 meeting where potentially a non-NL rider could get the time. Frankly, as the sport has a guy with a stopwatch timing things I'm amazed anyone cares about track records.

He beat Jason Doyle. Hardly going to strike fear into World Title contenders. He made hard work of that too. Obviously only a mug would discount Holders chances. -
It one of them things we could argue forever. For all we know Billy Hamill may have won 5 World Titles in the 60s but equally its possible that Nigel Boocock may have won 5 World Titles if he's rode in the 90's nobody can possible compare eras, it's impossible.

TBF, the whole idea of a forum is to debate points. Not make statements and refuse to elaborate.

Sgp/bsi And Sec/one Sport It Is War Now
SCB replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
This is why most oldies claim it was better in the good old days IMO. Being one of 10000 at a meeting is better than 1 of 400. Best example I can give is Newport vs Glasgow KOC 2011 - I doubt the meeting was any better than any other meeting that season but every time Newport gated on a 5-1, got within 2 foot of a Glasgow rider, made a pass, went over the line the place went mad as the 1500 people there were enjoying themselves far more than the usual 3-400. It's also why we walk out of Cardiff every year buzzing while the people who sat at home watching on the tele say it was boring. The Audiable boo every time the stadium catches a glimpses of Nicki on the big screen or stepping out on to the track to the roof raising wall of noise you hear when they show Woffy or Bomber (despite the stick Bomber gets on here) on the big screen or they stick there head out of the pits. You're already excited so the racing doesn't have to be that good, barely acceptable will be more than good enough. Watch the Chris Harris 2007 race on yourtube that the people there have uploaded and hear the gasp as Bomber heads down the back straight on lap 1 passing Crump and Adams, the groan as Crump re-passes him on bend 4th bend and then the huge cheer as he passes Crump on the next bend followed by all sorts of ooohs and arrhhs as he he chansed Greg back wheel for 3 laps. That race would have just been an OK race if you watched it at Brandon (as we've been lucky enough to do for the last 10 years!) but with 40000 other people even the most anti-Bomber of fans would have found themselves sucked in and enjoying themselves. -

But it does prove that they're failing already. We have two Americans who have had their number stolen by GP riders. -

Weirdly, despite my statement most wouold struggle I could name you Bo Brhel, Zorro, Ales, Ulamek, Greg Laguta and Zagar. Sowith Vaculik I can name 7 EU championship winners out of 12 seasons. -

Unlike those mega big, massively expensive and huge impressive stadiums that the SEC is taking the sport to? -

Apparently a couple of Team GB have tweeted each other about how they're going to "kick ass" this summer in the SWC, so be afraid! -
Speedways number 1 problem is promoters trying to screw each other over and get one over on each other. Maybe if they worked together the sport could grow, that starts with agreeing to pay riders a reasonable and fair wage but NO MORE. I see no issue with that.
