Definitely that no one has heard of it. I think the only people that knew about it when I was at school was the people I forced to come along with me, most of whom never went again
I hate the averages system and also the idea of not having riders as assets. It kills the motivation to develop young riders as if their average gets to high, you have to lose them for nothing or lose another top rider. It also doesn't really keep teams that fair either
I am not sure the riders pay is the reason for the stadiums closing and there being no teams left. Most were kicked out because they weren't worth having there. Teams should have been smarter with their money about bought land/stadiums in the early sky years when they had money to burn. I still also think it should I have to one team per rider across all leagues (not just UK, but overall) and then introduced some continental meetings. This would have allowed all teams to race domestically on the weekends and allowed more room for TV deals and midweek racing against foreign clubs which would prevent against racing the same teams all the time.
The existing data is fine, I have actually got all of that already. I am actually creating a migration process to convert the result PDFs found on the British Speedway website into SQL statements to fit my PostgreSQL database structure as well. Was just hoping for teams there was somewhere that had something like:
Oxford Cheetahs 1975-2005
Oxford Silver Machine 2005-2007
Oxford Cheetahs 2021-now
for example (dates might not be exact in the example).
Yeah that was the best I found, but even then, the team names aren't always completely accurate. I was hoping this data would be nicely archived somewhere, but knowing British Speedway it probably isn't
I am collecting data for a project I am working on and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find old logos and team names. I know there is some data out there, but it is not all in one place so was wondering if there was a place that had already collated this kind of thing.
