  1. One rule I would like to see changed is this silly doubling or halving of averages between the EL and PL. It can leave riders with averages they could never attain, eg. Ben Howe getting something like 11.90 . Maybe it would be best just to add or subtract 3 from a riders average, it would provide a more realistic figure. A 5 point EL rider could drop down with an average of 8, a 9 point PL rider could move up with an average of 6, seems fairer.
  2. I hate this lark, lets just have qualifiers for gods sake, no politics involved . The top 8 qualify for the next season, the next seven qualify through the qualifiers + 1 wild card. Easy and above board. Maybe too easy !!!!!
  3. Sorry .....dont know why I said that......... just realised I was talking about Pearson & Millard please accept my apologies.
  4. For the TV audiences not understanding the format, it should not be beyond the capabilities of Commontators to explain the format, with a suitable set of graphics.
  5. I dont expect this to be popular, but watching the meeting on Saturday night I noticed Scotty Nichols scrapped into the semi finals with 6 points. In theory he could have come second in the semi (2pts) and then won the final (3pts) making a total of 11 points from 7 rides. Now Trick went through the card 15pts won his semi (3pts) and could have lost in final to Scotty after scoring 20pts in 7 rides !!!! Wouldn't it be better for the points scored during the meeting to be carried forward, then add the semi final scores, with the top 4 scorers going through to the final, then the points scored the final added on so that whoever scores the most points wins the meeting. I dont expect many people to like this but I think its much fairer than the current system.
  6. I'd like to see a track in Bristol, the potential support is mind boggling. But it should not be at the expense of another team, in this case it might be Somerset.
  7. I think the lack of fans turning up was a case of a protest against the Promotion, not the team or the Standard of racing, I seen it as a case of Wally (a very apt name ) seeing the potential gold mine at Bristol with a ready made team ( Newport's ). Maybe he should have run Bristol at the lower level, leaving Newport alone, Bristol would have been a sucess regardless. Had another promoter taken over at Somerton Park the story might have been different, but a lot of fans were very bitter at what happened and stayed away. However justice was done when the Bulldogs were shut. I along with many Newport fans at the time never set foot in Eastville, those that did used to support the opposition , prefering to go to Swindon instead, and when he took over at Swindon I went to Reading, Oxford or Cradley, I made a point of staying away from tracks he was involved with. Sorry to sound bitter and twisted but it still annoys me to this very day.
  8. No Insult or slight intended to Broady, himself a former Newport rider.
  9. Just looking at that photo of Broady, his style is very similar to Carl Wilkinson, ( now go on all disagree with me :
  10. According to the local Newport rag Tim Stone made a contract offer to Short Track rider Marco Belli after he impressed in the Short Track meeting held at Newport on Saturday, I dont know anything about him, but apparently he is a former Italian Champion. Out of intrest does anyone know if he could do the business at Premier Leauge level ?
  11. I know they won at Speedway, but its not getting any better, defeats to a County side, BANGLADESH, and England yesterday, all I can say is thank godf forthe Speedway result.
  12. With regard to Wednesdays match and the Ashes , I fully expect normal service to be resumed, (ie Bits Loose ) but it was nice while it lasted.
  13. None of the Aussies went well on Saturday night, and to make things worse for this fine sporting nation the humiliating defeat ( 79 all out ) in the Cricket last night, a few days they'll want to forget.
  14. So that that everybody can join in on Saturday here are the words to the National Anthem Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi, Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri; Ei gwrol rhyfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd, Tros ryddid collasant eu gwaed. Chorus: Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad, Tra mor yn fur I'r bur hoff bau, O bydded i'r heniaith barhau. look forward to hearing you all singing................
  15. Didn't Ted Sear do the World Finals at Wembley, he was very good, but reminds of Harry Enfields ' Mr Chumley - Warner '
  16. Streety always seems to get back from anywhere on a Saturday night to be in Newport for Sunday afternoon.
  17. I bought 1 adult and 1 child ticket for for myself and my eldest son for Saturdays meeting, unfortunately my other son has decided he wants to come as well. I tried the hot line, and they can't give me another child ticket in the same area. If someone could buy the Adult and Child ticket off me for £39.00 I'd be gratefull, then I can purchase 3 seats together on the night . If I disappoint any of the kids, my wife and my 5 year old son will not be very happy on Saturday night !!!!!
  18. Someone on the Newport site has done an obituary for Ray it makes intresting reading, http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id...hreadID=2031679 I believe that Ray was forced to retire in 1965 beacause he'd been riding without a licence for a number of years, is this true ?
  19. Sad news, one thing I remember about Ray, and my father is always telling me this, Ray was THE master of 'dropping' or 'laying down' his bike. In fact, I'm told he was the quickest ever at the skill.
  20. Some ideas I have, I guess they are there to be shot down in flames !! Tactial Ride to be scrapped. Tactical substitutes to be allowed if eight or more points down, but cannot be used in heat 8 or after heat 12. Hopefully this will prevent riders throwing heat 13 which has been known to happen. The Golden double(15m back) if 10points down, but not in heat 8 or after heat 12. Guest riders, 8 day rule to apply, plus if the rider rode for a club in the previous 2 seasons he cannot guest for anyone at that track, eg. Scott Nicholls can't guest at Ipswich, Lee Richardson at Peterborough, MikeColes at Exeter. Riders can only appear three times at any track, this would prevent teams calling up specialists being called up who tend to score more than the rider they replace. Points Limit to be the average of the leauges final declared sevens. Bonus point scrapped, 3pts away win, 2pts away draw & home win 1pt home draw Now have some fun picking holes in that lot !!!!
  21. Spoke to the 'Old Timer' on the phone today, he assures me this rider does exist, he rode from the about 1962 in the old provincal leauge untill the early 1970's He said the wierdest thing was seeing him winding on the throttle with the left hand !
  22. Didn't they try this in the late 50's early 60's, wern't Briggo & Peter Craven handicaped, I remember readung Briggo being dead chuffed giving 15 yards to riders like Nigel Boocock .
  23. I've heard a story off an older supporter about a rider in the 60's who was left handed, and had the thottle on the left of the handlebars with the clutch on the right ! But coudn't remember his name. I think he was pulling my leg, does anyone know who this rider was?
  24. Thanks , I remember about Eddie Glennon . Very popular manager & nice guy too .
