  1. Talking of Aussies, does anyone remember Terry Brett who second halved at Brum in, I think, 74 or 75?

Think he was a sheep farmer who may have sold up to give speedway a good go. Had a distinctive “style” of rolling off the throttle on the straights and pinning it on the corners.

    Didn’t make it, obviously! :D

Was that at Leicester (Granby Hall?)? I visited that site when I attended an entomological show during the nineties before it was demolished.

Think it was there yes, also at the Whispering Wheels Roller Rink in Wolverhampton and one in Brum. There was an article in a one off speedway magazine, Broadslide, a couple of years ago.

  3. Mickey Mouse it maybe. But after 2nd halving in 71 and not really doing all that well, he rode Indoors during the winter and then scored a maximum on his debut for Brum in 72. Must have done him some good. The machines had BSA Bantam motors so were more suited to a glazed concrete surface. A lot better than using normal speedway engines which is plain silly.

  4. Big Arthur Browning (there was actually a small one, his Dad) has to be a contender simply because of the amount of disciplines he’s ridden over the years.

    Speedway

    Scrambling/Motocross

    Trials

    ISDT

    Manx GP/Classic TT

    Red Marley Hill Climb

    Cadbury’s Milk Tray Advert

    That’s some list.

Have checked  on Wiki,      It says the owners are " David Reuben (born 1941) and Simon Reuben "(born 1944) are British businessmen and philanthropists.[1] In May 2019, they were named as the second richest family in the UK by the Sunday Times Rich List with a net worth of £18.664 billion.[2]

BUT they do like buying property in London ??

Fair play to them for making all that money from collecting stamps!

  6. There’s only one real favourite rider of all time for me , the avatar is a clue. Zdenek Kudrna.

Honourable mentions though to my first ever fave and that’s Chris Bass of Cradley Heath. Don’t know why, but I was only 10 after all.

Soft spots for Brummie legends Big Arthur, the galloping Major and the mighty Phil Herne. Great days. Oh and Ivan Mauger, the GOAT.

What a feast on TV this weekend, starting tonight, but with Toruń being the highlight on Saturday.

    Thursday.... Wolves v Swindon

Friday... under 21 World Championship final round Pardubice

    Ffiday .... qualifying for Torun

Saturday ... final GP of the season Torun

Sunday.... MotoGP, Moto 2, Moto 3 from Thailand  (plus practice and qualifying Friday and Saturday)

    Monday ... Swindon v Wolves

    all on BT and Eurosport

How much would it cost to go and see that lot...if it was practicable to do so.

    No BSB from Donington then?
