  1. You would think, after all of the visa problems in recent years, that lessons would have been learned. Mr Harkess' team was one of the ones caught out previously. Surely the BSPA can afford to occasionally consult an employment lawyer who could give advice on these type of issues. I feel sorry for the riders who have saved up and geared up for a full British season only to have their employment removed at a late stage. They too should have familiarized themselves with the rules. Lets hope that a resolution can be found quickly.
  2. You're correct, of course, foamfence. Ignoring ignorance is always the best policy. I would always be happy to ignore your type of rant. Obviously, you believe that your team is young, state of the art and cutting edge who will walk away with all honours (Hang on, your profile says your team is Halifax - don't fancy their chances much this season!). So, ignoring foamfence's rant, the teambuilding philosophy is fairly simple. Unless you have a promotion who can bankroll a team of hot prospects, gambles have to be taken. Someone on the forum stated 'Glasgow have taken anyone who is available' - why on earth would we have taken someone who was not available (not rocket science, that one). Our geographic location means that we have to always had to have realistic expectations regarding signings (speedway riders have plenty of travelling to do no matter where they are located - weekly travel to the Northern outposts of the league is not a bonus). Last season's gambles did not pay off and, coupled with injury problems, Glasgow paid the price. We are backing a couple of hopeful bets again which always adds to the intrigue. The main point is that we are running this season and have a team with a decent blend of youth and experience.
  3. Mod NOTE: Post split from another topic as it was resurrecting a 3 year old topic with irrelevant discussions which was also badly and slightly misleadingly headed I had not thought about Alf for years but recently heard that the great guitarist Bert Weedon had died last year, aged 91. I wondered if they were related and did a search for Alf's details which led to this thread. From the earlier posts, I assume that Alf, assuming that he is still fit and well, will be 93 - a bit unlikely to be Bert's dad but does anyone know if they are related? It is not a particularly common name. Alf was a top class 'snapper' and must hold an amazing collection of photos - it would be great if someone could provide a selection for an online gallery.
