Who will win the World Cup??
fatface replied to Vincent Vega's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think GB are looking good at this stage. Sweden and Australia are good, but they won't be happy going through the race-off. Who's to say even if they do get through, they will come through such a cut-throat meeting unscathed too. -
I'm just surprised that "Man Utd" are fretting over "Stockport"
-
Ouch! That score chart can't be right. Things were perfect in the 70s and 80s Grachan and don't dare try and pretend otherwise.
-
I remember that one. For some reason Greeny's cut-out never seemed to work. As I recall, he was planted on his bum on the track when the bike came after him looking for revenge. He was soon up and away then. I also recall Mark Simmonds (who seems to be the crash king according to this thread) sliding across the top of the third bend fence with one leg either side. He travelled for a fair few metres sending a red light flying with sparks spraying everywhere. Amazingly he walked away. Even more amazingly he still managed to father a child.

Yes. I would agree with that sentiment. Even though me and a couple of others have nit-picked , don't let it put you off. Your site does make very interesting reading Tom.
-
Interesting yes, but like Grach and SCB have said, it is flawed. I think the wild cards should be taken out too - have you never heard of the minimum six match rule!
-
Thanks Dave. I'll be back with my opinion after I've poured through these stats...
-
Do you have the actual facts and figures? All I can see is a list of names.
-
You're not wrong there. What speed! What a track! What a nutter!
-
What's my porn star stage name doing in your all-time list?
-
A well balanced post rmc and one which I largely agree with. I was amused to read this little gem too. Mike Lee in the ref's seat? Wow, that is an image and a half.
-
Agree totally. Other faves - Exeter, Hackney, Edinburgh (Powderhall), Halifax, Wolves

Channel 4 GP Coverage, Sunday 4th July
fatface replied to Deak77's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm not a complete expert in this area, but it strikes me that Channel 4 use speedway merely as a way of proving that they are servicing minorities to OfCom (or whoever it is that governs them these days). I expect the ratings are not great, because essentially its a repeat (SKY has already shown the GP) and the scheduling means it is on incredibly early and not even in a regular slot. I don't think C4 have given it a real opportunity. I think they should at least give it a go on Saturday afternoons or a 6pm midweek slot. BTW - I too thought Julia Bradbury was great -
Garbage, utter garbage. Andreas Jonsson is a brilliant talent who can win races from the front or back, has good equipment and is utterly professional. He's a title contender for the next 6-8 years.

Steady is In........
fatface replied to Derwent's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Here, here. I think his career has stalled a little over the past couple of seasons, but I still believe him to be Britain's top prospect. This is a great opportunity for him to get a feel of the very top level of racing. -
Indeed he is. Martin Rogers jnr writes for the Mirror.

Come on Kev, spill the beans...

He sure had the talent, but lost his way when Mike Ferreira moved on! Is there a story there we should know Kevin?

When will he get a break?
fatface replied to steve jones's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Then he has to beat another young rider first. You can have a wild guess of who I mean. Aye I do. And I agree. (This is a very agreeable thread!) Bjerre and Lindback are the two boys who I reckon will soon join Jonsson, Nicholls, Nicki P, Bjarne P, Hampel in sorting out the title in 4-5 years. I only wish a Stead or Howe would hurry up and move into that bracket and not wait as long as David Norris did. -
Great stylist was Denzil. I thought he could´ve gone further than he actually did.

Agree, but I'm a little biased too - I had £5 e/w on him at 40-1. still, it was great to see him riding like he can again. I rate him very highly and can see him winning the whole series in 2-3 years. -
All Lee Richardson fans.....

Well, all I can say is that I hope you are right and I am wrong. -

I had this on-going discussion with my dad at the weekend. He is convinced that Richardson will win the title one day, but I really cannot see it myself. I thought third was a great result and fair play to him. He can gate and he's fast, but I just don't think he has the ability to execute enough overtaking manouvres at this level. Gating is bloody important in the GPs, but I still think you have to be able to force an opening if you want to win things. Rickardson, Pedersen, Loram have all had to do some serious overtaking to win the Championship. I'm not sure if Lee can do that. -
Me too Jez, I have no feelings either way to either rider. Hans was right to be excluded, but it was nothing more than a racing accident. I would liken it to a 50-50 ball in football. Both riders dead level going for the same area of track, neither bottling out, something had to give - that's speedway. And bloody exciting it was too!

Well done David Norris
fatface replied to Philip Addison's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Agreed, he was superb tonight. He was one of the smoothest riders on display abd never looked out of place at all. His 3rd to 1st dash in his first outing was one of many, many highlights. Like you say Phil, it looks good for the SWC too. I'm certainly more optimistic for GB than I have been in the past.
