  1. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Marketa. A day of drinking Budvar in Prague may have helped, but me, my old man and a good friend had a great time. To be honest, the stadium is so far from the Old Town and the throngs of tourists, this meeting was only going to attract die hard speedway fans, hence the half empty stadium. Still, tickets were cheap for a world final and it's hard to complain about £1.20 beers. Agree the joker robbed the best team of a victory, but it did serve up a thrilling climax. JT.
  2. In light of our constant charity on a world level, I suspect BSI will let GB host the World Cup final in 2014, eradicating any need for us to go through the qualifiers. JT.
  3. Comical in the end. We only have one rider anywhere near world class. Harris still thinks he is, but he hasn't been since about 2010 and tonight surely kills any chance of him getting a series Wild Card for 2014. I bet BSI are distraught. Bridger was better than Barker, but that's not saying much. Hancock was sublime, Fisher rode out of his skin and surely Bogdanovs and Puodzuks will get offers from British promoters soon? JT.
  4. I understand why some are sympathising with Kennett, after all it wasn't his fault he was chosen tonight. However I find it difficult to feel sorry for anyone found guilty of cheating. Denmark were predictably a class above overall. Each of their riders had at least one duff ride, but they could have fielded a Denmark B side as well tonight, and probably still finished runners up. Woffinden was easily about two levels above any of our other riders. Harris was respectable and did well to beat Pedersen, but in my opinion tonight just confirmed he is no longer in the top echelons of the sport. Still gave it his all though. I was disapointed by Cook's performance again (after Cardiff), but even he was far better than the woeful Kennett. Congrats to USA. Although two thirds of their points came from the ever impressive Hancock, other riders chipped in to lift them above a truly depleted Swedish side. For the Swedes, Ljung was their best by far and it was sad to see how far Davidsson has gone off the boil. Not long ago he lifted his game in the World Cup, tonight he was abysmal. JT.
  5. Is Kelvin sloshed, ill or just nervous? He's slurring his words. JT.
  6. Putting aside his tantrum at the end of last season, I have no problem with Harris in the World Cup for the time being. As you say, he steps up a level in this competition. I do have a problem with his constant Grand Prix charity, but that's a different story. The frustration with Kennett is the fact he can't seem to adapt his style to events on track. Take yesterday where he just drifted to the fence and mediocre riders passed him with relative ease. Against the likes of Pedersen, Hancock, Lindgren and Iversen he doesn't stand a chance of defending himself if he gates. Give Worrall a go. JT.
  7. Surely if they finish outside of the top 8, and they still want to ride in the GP's, a series Wildcard is a given? After seeing some of the crap riders they've given full time slots to over the years (Harris' unprecedented charity springs to mind) riders with the records of Gollob and Hancock would surely be certain to receive a place? As it is, I think one or both will retire with dignity anyway. Lindback aside, this is such a strong GP year (strongest by far for years), anybody who doesn't qualify by right would have a good shout for a wild card next year. JT.
  8. Can we have a referee's microphone, like in rugby, please? I'd love to hear Ackroyd's reasoning behind that decision. I like Emil, but he was clearly at fault there. JT.
  9. No, you're right, Phil. All those wild card opportunities have nothing to do with favouritism, Harris got them all through merit… Out of interest, IF Kennett fails to qualify and Harris inevitably picks up the Wild Card slot in the Grand Prix Challenge, will you still stand by your 'pathetic nonsense' statement above? Granted a rider may be given one, two, or even three golden opportunities in his career, but any more, and you've got to suspect a hint of bias, right? Incidentally, Harris would be my second pick for the World Cup side. But I do find it odd that a rider who was so willing to give up riding for his country, if he didn't get a Wild Card, has been given the captaincy without any mention of last years tantrum. JT.
  10. Yeah it's been a pretty crap year for wild cards so far. JT.
  11. I genuinely think the Harris decision is out of Middlo's hands. BSI will insist Harris is included in the World Cup Squad, just as they insisted he was given the wildcard at Cardiff. After yet another mediocre showing in his latest piece of Grand Prix charity, and his calamitous exit from the GP qualifying round, the World Cup is the last opportunity for BSI to muster an excuse to give their favourite rider another series wild card in 2014. Unless Kennett fails to qualify and they have the audacity to give Harris the Wildcard for the GP Challenge, of course... I actually wouldn't have a problem with including Harris in the team, but for his pathetic tantrum last season. "Unless you give me (yet) another GP wildcard in 2013, I'll jack in the World Cup." JT.
  12. It appears you just don't like speedway, Bradford Ace. We've had overtaking in every race so far, rare so early on in a meeting. This guy talking in between the groups of heats is intensely irritating, however. Why the four second gaps between words? And why do they show a picture of an empty stadium? Surely they can just take stills from the action and get someone who can string a sentence together to speak over it? Other than those complaints, I'm enjoying this. JT.
  13. He was freakishly good at the end of 2010. Odd that his form improved so significantly for those few months, then dropped off dramatically the next season. As he's always blamed his poor form on his bikes, I guess his brief spell of brilliant scores was engine related, too? He must have notes from 2010? Bikes used, set ups etc. Either way, surely BSI can't think of any more excuses to give him a Wild Card, can they? JT.
  14. Yet another dire performance by Harris, but with his record of charity, does anyone seriously think he WON'T get given the wild card for the Grand Prix challenge? JT.
  15. The most sensible post so far. This years line up is so strong, that world class riders will inevitably miss out. I think Jonsson has lost interest now, likewise Lindback, who is showing the classic signs of a confidence drain. After the Bomber's latest bomb (eliminated before the Semi Finals and beaten by Dryml) in Cardiff, I hope BSI have finally ended their love affair with the rider and he is forced to qualify by right. If he does make it through the qualifying rounds and qualifies from the challenge in Poole, I have no problem with him in the series, but enough of his constant charity now please. JT.
  16. Didn't Harris say he was quitting the GB World Cup side if BSI didn't give him a series wild card this season? JT.
  17. You've got to feel a bit sorry for Bjerre, he's really a victim of his nationality. His record in the Grand Prix is pretty impressive and much better than Harris, for example. If he was British, BSI wouldn't have hesitated in giving him a full time position this year. Unfortunately for him, Denmark have so much strength in depth, he's unlikely to ever get a charity pick. Qualify on his own or nothing, I'm afraid. JT.
  18. Based on this years averages, Smolinski is top. You're going on the rolling averages which confuse matters slightly. For example Harris is No.1 in the Birmingham rolling averages at the moment, but below Covatti in the meetings this year. It will be interesting to see if Smolinski can keep this up all season, but if he can qualify by right, who are we to disagree with his inclusion? I'd stop short of giving him a series wild card donation though, there are other riders who have had years of consistently good league scores, but have never received a Wild Card. Grig Laguta for one... In fact, given their impressive World Cup performances, and the very real chance of a Russian World Champion this season, surely Russia have a strong case to expect a permanent Wild Card in 2014? Especially with a rider as world class as Laguta. JT.
  19. Really enjoyed that, nice to see new tracks on television as well. Kerr looks like a great prospect and Henry was very impressive. Could Kennett be Gjedde MKII? JT.
  20. I wouldn't be too smug about it, Harris didn't get much further last season. The more chances Harris gets, the more he looks like the sporting equivalent of a scrounger. For his sake, I hope he bucks his ideas up and actually qualifies by right this season. Relying on constant charity only helps to make the rider more delusional in my eyes. Regarding the Wild Card for the GP Challenge in Poole, I hope someone else gets an opportunity to shine. JT.
  21. You joke, but you and I both know BSI will find every way possible to get their beloved Bomber back in the series! I'll readily admit I got it totally wrong with Woffinden this season, but I hope BSI don't use his form as an excuse to gift another place to a Brit. Unless someone qualifies for the series by right, leave it to Woffinden to keep the British audience interested. Personally I can see at least one of Gollob and Hancock retiring come the end of the season. If so, I presume the next best rider will get the spot, a la Jonsson this year? I think Iversen will qualify by right anyway, especially if he piles up the points in Gorzow. With a couple of rounds in Sweden, I guess there will always be a Swede? With his Monster connections, I expect they'll go for Lindback. Ward absolutely has to be in it. I reckon they sweetened Jepsen-Jensen up pre-season with the promise of a place next year, so he'll be in. To continue the World U21 Champion theme, I expect they'll go for Janowski for the last place. Ward, Janowski, Jepsen-Jensen and Lindback. JT.
  22. Fair enough, you're entitled to your side of things and although I don't agree, I appreciate where you're coming from. To be honest, I don't know why I'm getting so worked up about it. I'll probably spend half the Grand Prix slightly blotto anyway! Hey ho! JT.
  23. But Harris has had far more chances to impress than Nicholls, and any other rider in World Speedway (by a long-shot). Also, as far as I can remember, Scott earned his place in the series by bothering to qualify. Like I said, I disagree with this scrounging for GP charity anyway, and would much rather see riders actually work for their place. The main issue here is why are BSI so obsessed with one very mediocre rider? JT.
  24. Why not give it to Nicholls then? He clearly wanted to ride at Cardiff. Why automatically give it to a rider who has already had umpteen chances? Like I said, if Harris actually bothered to qualify by right for one of these things, I wouldn't have a problem. In fact I'd actually prefer it if British riders were made to qualify for these events, it would stop "Harris Syndrome" going forward. The British Final was the closest thing we had to a qualifying meeting and now that's been taken away, purely and simply because there was a danger Harris wouldn't feature in a Grand Prix this year. JT.
