The visitors were led by the excellent Danyon Hume, whose gating prowess and overall pace proved too much to handle, and Hume notched up the three fastest times of the match, on a rather slick surface. But they were slightly "top heavy" and together with the unlucky Craig Hancocks' two falls, it was the home sides' greater strength in depth which proved the difference. Well done, gentlemen !!

Midland Development League Riders Championship The 2015 CITY GEARBOXES MDLRC will be staged at Scunthorpe on Bank Holiday Monday August 31st after the Scunthorpe v Sheffield Premier League clash. All ten MDL teams will be represented. As in previous staging there is an opportunity for fans and businesses to support the event. The riders at this level do not receive any points or travel money to compete. Therefore each rider will be given a voucher to spend on the spares van from the sponsorship raised from heat and supplementary backing. There are superb handmade and crafted trophies for the top three riders in the Final supplied by Mick Chapman Trophies of Ashford, Kent and these are truly magnificent. Each rider also is given a medal to mark their appearance at the event. Dave Roscoe has kindly sponsored all the riders with methanol whilst former Newport promoter and ex-rider Nick Mallett has sponsored the MDLRC race jackets. What is needed though are race sponsors with several already having pledged their support which is much appreciated. Race sponsorship is £50 per race with the semi-finals £75 each and the Grand Final £100. Additionally this time each rider can be sponsored at £25 per rider. MDL Friday 24th April 2015 CITY GEARBOXES Coventry Vikings 18 Belle Vue Colts 18 Unbeaten Belle Vue snatched a MDL point at the 11th hour when Coventry Vikings looked set to start their campaign with a win but home man Danyon Hume hit the deck when on a 3-3 ..but that’s speedway! The Colts lost young Stephen Whitehouse with bike damage when he lifted coming out of the gate in heat 2 somehow missing the other three riders. Conor Dwyer led his side by example with two superb wins before missing the gate out of the graveyard gate 1 in the final race but chased Belle Vue’s Tom Bacon for the four laps as he inflicted the home man’s only defeat of the night. Robert Parker battled hard for the home side and gained a reward winning his last ride whilst Danyon Hume , in for the unavailable Callum Walker who is in Germany for a long track meeting, lost out on points in two rides when falling in point scoring positions. 16 year old local lad Mitchell Beckett made his debut for the Vikings and rode steadily to notch 2 and a bonus and with two Coventry born and bred boys in their side this is pleasing for the club. For the Colts Tom Bacon , ironically a Coventry boy too, top scored with 8 backed up by David Holt with 6 and Sam Darroch , who recovered from a first race fall, to notch 4 and a bonus.
