gone past the stage of listening to Johnson i'm not doubting anything he does for club, by all accounts he puts loads of hours in for nothing the same as the guys from ppsc ,but slagging the so called internet warriors off and claiming they don't know what there on about was foolish because at the end of the day he looks the biggest fool , his team is 5h1te and the booking of guests is a bigger pi55take .if panthers cant afford to get the likes of bellego in the team they should be nowhere near the top league .never thought id see the day I never went to a local derby against lynn but Jesus Christ no way would I give chapman another penny the way he;s taking p1554 points

If he is losing money, it is his own fault. Nobody forced him to make the original team much weaker.3 points

You were saying about Josh & not getting a low score.3 points

If the ref had got his decisions right early in the meeting the overall gap would have been wider. He was a totally blind smeg head (polite description)3 points

Amazing once again from the guests. Those backing Lambert, what were you saying!3 points

You are missing the point. Its not a case of bringing anyone in, it was the destruction of the original team that pizzed people off. I knew this would happen, and that's why i'm an ex speedway supporter. I'd rather put money in a charity box than give it to Chapman...3 points

Forty, I would suggest ‘ my generation’ are the ones with a decent expendable income, so would it not make sense to attract us ? The younger generation have so many other interests and, to me would be a much harder audience to entice. As for fiver Speedway with World Champion’s on display, that does sound somewhat of a tongue in cheek and throw away comment. For me personally I don’t want something for nothing, but will not accept nothing for something.3 points

People moan because they care, it’s possible to still love the sport and your club without being willing / able to go any more. £18 is an awful lot of money for two or three races out of fifteen, especially if it involves a long drive or rushing around after work. And it’s perfectly possible to know what a meeting was like without being there, plenty of ways to know how good or bad it was. As SL says the ‘use it or lose it’ line can only really be used if the person running the show is doing absolutely everything in their power to make the product attractive and customers feel valued.3 points

Jason is a good entertainer off track too, we will miss him in the after meeting clubhouse get togethers. You might need a bleep machine to edit some of his comments though.3 points

That’s sums up the exact reason we stopped going for the two of us with travel cost it was £45 - £50 a meeting we used to walk to the car after the meeting and most meetings we asked why did we attend neither of us enjoyed most meetings so we stopped going that was 2 years ago and to be honest we’ve not missed it in the slightest- Now we get home from work have a meal watch tv and relax rather than rushing home from work chasing to Kings Lynn to pay out on something we for most part we wasn’t enjoying .3 points

Hopefully the bike he used at the S O N meeting has returned from Russia for him to use3 points

Yet Webbo you still go. Must be like going to the Cinema to watch the same film time and time again, knowing you didn’t enjoy it the first time. I don’t blame Buster, more the fans who pay £20 knowing full well they ain’t gonna enjoy it. Send me ya £20. I’ll flush it down the loo for you. Least it will save you a few quid on fuel.3 points

You speak a lot of sense, If it was just about the money I would have packed up long ago. It's the occasion, the moment, the time when I can escape the misses and drift back into nostalgia. There are many reasons why I still go. but keeping contact with many friends is the prime cause. Plus, I would hate to think there was a fantastic meeting and it was on one of the days when I didn't bother to go2 points
-
Maybe it’s a case of the older fans remember when we actually had racing rather than gate and go - as for admission I’d much sooner pay £25 and actually see some top riders rather than the same bunch doubling up in both leagues2 points

I can understand exactly what you are saying. I have been to one meeting in the last two years, having been a regular attender (including a number of away visits), for many years. I first started going to speedway in the early sixties at the Firs, but that's another story. There are a lot of reasons why i no longer go with the value for money aspect being one of them. I was finding it increasingly difficult to continue an empathy with the team and the riders with things like doubling up, guests, ever increasing rider replacement being so prevalent. British speedway seems to be at the bottom of the importance list for most riders,. i.e. the fourth division. I find it very difficult to get excited about it although I do still monitor what goes on. Also, what other sport would allow one person to own three of the seven clubs in the top league? Absolutely ridiculous!2 points

agreed but you have to start somewhere and slowing the buggers down wd do for a kick off2 points

Very much the same for me although I go from time to time ( once so far this season ). So little VFM, so few races worthy of the name. Long drawn-out process with too much paint drying time. Was going tonight but my friend from Peterborough decided that the heat would not make the journey nor the racing worthwhile ( in fact from near Kettering ). So sunned off! He is coming for a playoff match - if of course.......like so many I do not miss it much when I do not attend. Thursday usually means Swedish speedway and with them not having a heatwave, it might be worth watching. When you think I retired to KL in 2002 mostly because I would be near a speedway track, the lustre has definitely worn off.2 points

more speed, which wasn't required for the sport, just individuals. It's just an arms race. Someone has to have the cojones to stop it before it's too late. GB could do this unilaterally - international riders have numerous machines anyway to ride abroad. A decision like that would however require the aforementioned cojones2 points

Depends what his remit it .. I expect his job is to pick the best side and get the best out of the people he's picked and that has been outstanding thus far remember he not getting paid 52 weeks of the year . The thing that is sad is about Woffy he had the power to do so much more in terms or riding here turning up at uk finals etc . His attitude been one of looking after himself and that is fair enough but if that is the case don't keep going on about this passion for uk speedway .2 points

It's been like that at times for at least 15 years at Peterborough. There has been some nasty stuff and management have often been justified in coming out fighting. Generally though it's lack of communication/explanation that causes the problems. Fans get upset and vent their anger and management get upset when in fact they could have nipped things in the bud much earlier with a version of events that people will believe and not the corporate line that usually doesn't stack up to other info out there.2 points

It wasnt a bad meeting, track was better and good to see a decent crowd in after they did alot of promoting over the recent days. There were loads of kids in which is the generation we need but not sure about the whistles they give to them. Gets a bit annoying after a while. Garrity after a slow start was an absolute joy to watch, no doubt he will prove to a good signing. Yes hes wild but hes a match winner and will be popular with the fans. Aarnio for me has been a poor signing. He doesn't look like a heat leader which is a shame as with Adam out , we need all riders to step up. I simply dont understand why we didnt use the tactical sub in Heat 10?. I would have thought Garrity would have had a decent chance of beating Grobauer and Covatti and partnering Worrall to a 5-1. It would have been better to have Worrall/Garrity in Heat 10, Aarnio/Shanes in Heat 11 and Garrity/Wallinger in Heat 12. It then would have meant we could swap Wallinger for Shanes in Heat 14. A shame we have no home match next week when its the school holidays but hopefully we can bounce back and start winning our home matches next month.2 points

Bomber is now held in the same vein at Glasgow by the fans as Sarj is at your club, due to the fact that he never seemed to put the same effort in for us last season as he did for his premiership club. Being on a guarantee was our fault if on just points related earnings we might have seen the effort , not a big deal more a tongue in cheek comment. BTW I think Bomber on his game is box office we just didn't see it apart from the odd occasion,2 points

At the current valuation rate i have £4.50 as an offer if he's interested? I personally hate all the turning back on fans, lets see what you know, don't like it don't come mentality belongs long in the past. Criticism via social media (justified or otherwise) is a thing of the present and needs to be handled properly by those involved with the club namely by giving honest and frequent updates even if the say things like we have been looking at our options but there are no current riders available within our pay structure.2 points

Well if we had not made this switch I don't know what more Ben Barker could have done to make us make this switch ?. His form so far indicates he is the long long overdue No1 scorer here there and everywhere we have needed for many a long season !. Seems the chance for Jason Garrity to pick up the ride at Brummies has also fallen at the right time and everyone moves on with best wishes and thanks for their efforts. Having already secured the standout rider of the season in Danny Ayres; in Ben Barker we have an exciting signing that can make the difference especially away from the EWR. Josh; Jake; Ben; Danny that's a four that can mix it with the best of them. Throw in Stephan; Simon and Ryan and if we can stay fit we should be good for a play-off spot ! Well done the management for securing Ben Barker as a Scorpion.2 points

There are two great articles in this weeks Speedway Star that cover your Nice meeting at the IOW and another by Josh Auty about running costs and how modern speedway is going. It's not rocket Science when you read the quotes from riders about the meeting, and it's benefits and the positives that came out of it. Club Speedway has to go down this route...for every conceivable positive reason. Both for the benefit of fans and riders alike. The only recurring theme is riders saying what do they do with the engines they've already invested in. Just use them in Individual events...sell them to riders for Individual events. The maintenance and tuning costs will catch up over time....to their benefit. As Auty says...the only people benefiting are the tuners. £350 for labour alone to strip a bike before parts Quoted. Madness considering how often that has to happen. Unfortunately riders and promotors in general seem set in their ways...it's so ingrained. And riders are like lemmings...they just follow whoever is fastest and winning. Copy them in the hope of also winning. As Auty pointed out...however much he spent on fast engines, he came to the conclusion it was his technique that was lacking, regardless of how much money he spent. Which is pretty much what we witness now every meeting. Things have got to change...and the 'Nice' way is the way forward imo.2 points

I would suggest the ‘success’ in recent years has more to do with Tai dragging the other riders along while he was riding as a World no 1, rather that Rosco’s magical words to each rider before they went out for each race. It could be suggested that Tai is the inspiration to the riders to up their game while he is riding out of his skin for the cause.2 points

The 3% hit and is a doozy of a spectacle Glad we got to a result. A few hard fought heats without being as spectacular as the storm. Witches had to work hard to overcome the Wolves and 'Chiris I Durno what Im doing'1 point

He was never going to be the answer a strange signing, a signing for signing sake methinks, meeting going as expected Swindon far too good, we really are shocking away from home and tonight sees the reason I wouldn't have kept Worrall either, gone as far as hes going to.1 point

I hear what you say about the 'lies' and I certainly agree, but, not making any excuses for him, if it's a lie based on the 'club' itself then that makes the whole 'promotion' guilty for allowing the lies ? However, I can't criticise David/Peter for giving us speedway and throwing their own money in to our club....they would definitely benefit from a new manager. Someone who can read the meeting better....use reserve rides and T/S better.....every week 'we' miss opportunities (imo)1 point

Gate money isn't everything though, if 3000 people buy a burger/cup of tea / programme etc. you might well end up with more money to bank than if 1000 people did the same. Also how many of the 1000 people paying £18 would pick and choose meetings due to the price, but would attend more at £5 admission ? At £18 how many people with a family would go on there own, but would take the family with them if it was £5 admission ? its not easy getting the right balance on admission prices1 point

Totally agree. Supporters need to recognise that team GB, England or whatever you want to call the motley crew of riders racing under the banner are with one exception no real match for those who race at GP, Euro or Polish league speedway. Why do people bang on about the overseas contingent not riding in in the UK when in fact they could not give a fig about British speedway. The current state of the sport offers up the ideal opportunity to regroup and foresake all that has gone before. Time to look after number one and re-build from the bottom up. Those riders who cannot commit to weekly racing in the U.K. between April and September, go ply your trade elsewhere. Build with what we have, invite overseas teams for test matches and forget Poland, ask Germany, Italy, France, Norway, Czech, etc. and get to watch riders who will only grace these shores is these type of matches. Bring back the interest in seeing overseas riders at test matches only. Work on a U K open individual championship, and look at a league format that has riders competing with equal ability rather than machines and stop the nonsense of throwing money at bikes and instead give riders machines that are standard so that all competitors really have to look at their track craft and hone their skills rather then rely on the gate and go aspect of the sport. The sport may once have been part time and a hobby for some riders but it was much more of a level playing field when it came to machinery. Oh for the days when it was announced that a rider was using the track spare. A reality check is needed before it reaches the point of no return. To those in charge, be dynamic, be forceful and stop living in a dream world.1 point

The SKY coverage during the first 10 years at least should have put speedway on a sound footing. Had real business people been running the sport, no doubt it would have done. For two-to-three years from 1999 there were real signs speedway was on the up. Crowds seemed to be improving and SKY really did recognise viewing figures were good for its network of channels. We had our faces painted and kids were let in for a quid on the evening SKY rolled up for a live broadcast. There did seem to be a hint of proper promoting by those who had lazily worn the tag for yonks beforehand. But it didn't really last. It drifted into being taken for granted, speedway being on TV every week, and sometimes twice. I felt the sport - promoters and fans - thought SKY and the influx of cash would always be there. We even began having long faces when certain matches weren't on SKY, despite all they had done for us. Fans began getting picky when commentators were pronouncing riders' names wrong, or if certain teams featured more than theirs. That afternoon SKY had its cameras set up for the Riders' Championship at Coventry, when the promoter was scrambling on the floor looking for the dummy he'd just spat out, that was the final nail for SKY. They had so many rained-off meetings towards the end, I believe they decided to cut their loses. They were a professional broadcasting company working within an amateur sport. They couldn't drag it up to their level. For example, how many times did live matches overrun? BT have only half-heartedly accepted it, but we should be thankful for small mercies and not start bickering of who's doing a bad job and who you'd like to see on the panel. I often look at some of the dross SKY are covering during the summer months and cannot believe how the sport messed up its opportunity and is no longer featured. As a fan, I don't really know the ins and outs. But I do recall the amount of money SKY used to shell out setting up all the gear, and then the match was washed out. They aren't a charity and won't put up with it. BT also. I look at speedway, 20 years after SKY could have saved it, and see a dangerous shortage of riders with clubs having to share them, like the last cigarette being passed around by kids behind the bike sheds. I see clubs going weeks without a match in the height of summer, which will surely mean some fans will simply get out of the habit and get used to the cash in their pockets. Meanwhile, fans are expected to tune in to the GPs and see many of the riders (or their type) who put two fingers up at Britain and merely used it like a Tom Cat when the female was in season. Fans are expected to turn up trackside and support riders in their team who aren't even their riders. It's like visiting someone in hospital you don't know and wishing them to get better. It's not someone you know and love. In fact, you ask yourself why bother turning up at the bedside every week to wish someone you don't know get better. Looking at British speedway right now, I see remnants of what might have been, ghosts of live matches on SKY and all the missed opportunities. That could have been the sport's saviour. It should have. But look at it now. How many lives does it have remaining for British speedway to mess up?1 point
