  1. Thanks to Rob I have been able to put this one to bed. The rider in question is Paul Turle. The Speedway Star entry for Peter Turle is incorrect, confirmed by Paul himself.
  2. Peter Turle is credited with riding one match for Rye House at Weymouth in 1984. A previous post on here from 2008 reckoned he was a south coast based junior borrowed by the Rockets as #8. However I have a programme from 20th May 1984 Poole v Swindon Juniors that has a Paul Terle (note spelling) riding in the second half. I also have a programme from 17th June Poole v Exeter Juniors that has a Paul Turle riding at #6 for Exeter. In both instances the name has been written in and not printed in the programme. Both are marked to a high standard, indeed the Swindon one may be a ref's copy as it is signed. Just to throw a further spanner into the works, I have a programme from 8th October at Exeter with a Wessex Junior league match v Poole who have a Paul Turtle listed in their team. The programme isn't marked though. Can anyone clarify this situation? Are Peter and Paul one and the same? Is it Turle. Terle or Turtle?
  3. It's that programme which has thrown the published results into question. I now need a second copy to confirm them either way.
  4. Does anyone have a marked programme from this meeting? It must have been marked at the meeting and not from Speedway Star as I suspect the published results are incorrect.
  5. I don't read many threads on here these days but this one caught my eye for some reason. According to Speedway riders, history & results at least 358 riders were used across both leagues in 1970. I also took a look at my first season 1981. 36 teams began the season and at least 374 riders were used in official fixtures. I've also identified at least 100 riders who rode in second halves and junior league matches without making an 'official' appearance.
  6. The quiz ran for 4 weeks from 18th April until 9th May. The numbers grid remained the same. The results of each quiz were: 18th April - Barry Briggs (12), Ole Olsen (3) and Clive Hitch (48). 25th April - Jim McMillan (30), Ivan Mauger (1) and Jimmy Gooch (96). 2nd May - Soren Sjosten (19), Roy Trigg (6) and Bernie Persson (24). 9th May - Bengt Larrson (11), Bruce Cribb (10) and Ronnie Genz (95). Theories: 1. Entrants made their picks and the promotion simply selected the winners at random and allocated the numbers thereafter. 2. There was a predetermined list of riders and numbers and it was just your luck whether you were correct or not. Either way there was no logic involved. Could it have been a mad attempt to encourage programme sales?
  7. Jelaca won the meeting with a 15 point max.
  8. No problem. I've also spotted a typo in the 30th April Glasgow Silver Helmet races - the time for heat two was 58.8 (NTR), not 58.0.
  9. Steve, the Tom Owen meeting results are on page 46 in this file on Speedway Researcher http://www.speedwayresearcher.org.uk/newcastleleague history 3.pdf
  10. Asking on behalf of a friend - both teams used only 8 of their own riders throughout the season but did either use any guests?
  11. Does anyone have the result of this junior match, a 13-heat affair staged in the second half of the Wimbledon Pairs event?
  12. Carter broke his ankle in his third ride with Tigers at Stoke.
  13. Sorry wrong link - that video came on right after the BV one HenryW has sorted it out though
