  1. I love your attempt at trying to deflect the allegations against Poole Palm Toft pulled out when Redcar raced at Eastbourne after 2 rides. He then missed numerous matches for Redcar and Kings Lynn.............you know Kings Lynn...the track that MPT flies around......you know Kings Lynn.....the team that cant make the play offs.....you know Kings Lynn....nothing to gain from Palm Toft not riding.... Ricky Wells RODE a full meeting for Edinburgh on Sunday He then was declared 'unfit to ride at Kings Lynn...you know Kings Lynn.... a track that Wells is awful at Poole want to finish top............everything to gain for replacing Wells Wells then deemed 'unfit' to ride at Poole Thursday.......Poole get in track specialist Douglas in. Wells like 'Lazurus' is able the next evening to not only ride for Edinburgh but get a maximum If you think the Palm Toft/Wells situations are the same that you are quite clearly deluded..........as proved that your post was liked by Shovlar lol If Wells does not ride Monday..does not do the play offs...then its cheating plain and simple......Poole speedway mantra

  4. The attraction is that it helps to maintain interest in the sport. I cannot understand why people think it is a bad thing to have speedway on tv. I remember the 1990s, when there was no speedway on, and it helped towards the decline. I think a major contribution towards falling crowds has been the points limit - even more so now it is lower. I remember Oxford in the 80s. Succesful team. Big crowds. Eventually the points limit got them. Crowds visibly dropped instsntly. It's then hard to get those lost supporters back. So, another team takes over from Oxford. They then finish top, get nobbled by the points limit. The crowds drop. Then another team. Then another team. And so on, until, eventually, Swindon get to win the league. Then they get get nobbled by points limit too. Vicious circle. The only other time I've seen an instant, visible drop in crowds was when the double points replaced tatical subs. Did those people return when the tac subs came back? Not many, I'll bet. Anyone who thinks wesker sides is the key to the future, by the way, is clearly nuts.

  5. justice in speedway . depends on who you know, and more importantly who you are riding for at the time of any incident .

  6. Is it what has driven the majority of people away though? If it was purely down to racing then Belle Vue, Scunny etc would be packed to the rafters. I’d suggest there are several factors ie admission cost, rule bending, poor atmosphere, poor facilities, poor marketing etc.

  10. well here we go again for one last time as the potters take on the cubs in the last ever meeting at loomer road. as per usual both teams have riders missing which is a shame but hey ho lets just enjoy it and hope it is a good and fitting match to end on. I am sure it will be a very emotional and sad evening. to hear dave tattum on local radio in the week was very hard to listen to and no matter what axe to grind with him anyone may have had in the past surely we can turn out in numbers and just enjoy some good racing on a very good track and do the promotion proud. for me this is probably the end of my time watching speedway as after reading about the sharp practice and manipulation going on at poole last night the premier league is not for me thank you very much. the win at all cost attitude of some promoters is doing the sport no favours and will drive good honest supporters away from the sport as it all leaves a bitter taste for some fans. anyway that is enough drivel from me so come on the potters lets go out with heads held high and good luck to all the riders on both sides but just a tad more luck for the potters please.

  11. Something that the club would've known, last Saturday anyway, and definitely in the last few days, yet chose to say nothing. Not even the clubs un-official spokesman on here could bring himself to let us know. Very poor, but not a complete shock.

  12. He has been in poor form for quite a few weeks for Poole hasn't he?If that is the case, why didn't Poole get rid of him just before the transfer deadline. It would have all been done according to the rules then you wouldn't get all this nonsense.

  13. Don't see why anyone should be critical of Berwick's performance last Wednesday. Birmingham always looked more likely to win and several times the match seemed to be running away from Berwick, but they showed dogged resilience in battling back and had a real chance of snatching it at the finish. A single point wasn't enough for them to keep alive their play-off place in the end - but they certainly deserved the point they did get.

  14. Well, I can only speak as a Swindon fan. This season has been the best racing for several years at Blunsdon. I’ve seen more passing in one meeting than in several years, which suggests that it is the type of track, which needs to be considered. I would say the best tracks for speedway, I’ve seen anyway, are all similar Peterborough, NSS, Somerset and this year Swindon. I’ve not been to Norfolk or PL tracks so can’t include them but those tracks mentioned certainly show good close racing with multiple lines to ride. I wasn’t aware there was a 5 year tv deal in the offing until I read flagrag’s comments. That is welcome news given the general pessimism surrounding the sport and shows to me that the sport itself is still well regarded, certainly within tv, otherwise, why commit on a long term basis. Go back to the 2 youngsters at reserve. 23 and under with GB only or certain qualifying criteria for non UK, team that wins league teams use their average, have a week of speedway some time in Summer holiday where its £5 entry across the board with supporters to be registered to local club to be eligible at the start of the season (or agreed cut off) but pay normal price to own club’s fixtures. Reciprocal agreements for matches between clubs e.g £30 entry, programme and travel. The deal I just had with the match at BV for the cup final was superb value. There is no way I would have gone without the deal and BV received an additional coach load of fans they wouldn’t have ordinarily seen. There really needs to be more collaboration between clubs and leagues for speedway to grow. The sport is struggling because there is too much self interest, at all levels, with promoters only concerned for their own club and not the sport as a whole. Promoters have to go out and sell the sport and your target audience are the children, pure and simple. It’s them that have to be engaged, not me. There is a whole generation that either don’t know about speedway, or have never been introduced. That needs to change. If it’s BT that is looking at the 5 year deal then there should be a caveat about going to schools or marketing the sport locally. Lee Kilby has undertaken lots of initiatives at Swindon and responds to fans quickly via social media, gets things sorted and clarified but he is a lone wolf (there may be others but they are the exception rather than the rule) and that enthusiasm needs to be seen across the sport. I’ve enjoyed the racing again at Swindon, it’s the reason we all go and should be the primary consideration of all clubs. The rest, including marketing, sponsorship and new supporters will be easier with decent racing and we can hopefully look forward to a future for the sport.

  15. If it’s possible for a rider to be ‘stood down’ or for him to ‘withdraw his services’ for the Play Offs then the transfer deadline might as well be done away with as a club could use the same guest for its four play off meetings thus effectively signing that rider for the remainder of the season.

  26. Last i saw he was on 3.65 albeit had a couple of falls whilst in scoring positions. Lowest he can go is on a 4.00 obviously but that would be a good average for Sam with next season in mind.

  31. When it comes to Greg, I think that Phil Rising said it best a few years ago when talking about a possible wildcard for a different rider, who was much younger than Greg.... "Look to the future. ****** is a lovely guy but frankly has had his time and does he really get the pulses racing..." As far as I can see, this fits perfectly for Greg...

  32. Totally other end of the scale.Toft actually withdrew from a meeting riding for Redcar.Somehow Wells completed his rides for Edinburgh but gets injured. Why would Lynn want to pull the injury card for a rider who is riding well at the moment, especially at the NA.I could understand your thinking had Toft been scoring 1's and 2's like Wells but he wasn't. Don't really think the stick is being aimed at Wells but Poole who are likely to have instigated it.

  33. Dag admitted in his very candid interview with Backtrack many years ago that he had reached the point where he lost his verve for racing and was scared of being seriously injured. When that happens to a rider, he is right to pack in.

  34. Swindon have nearly tracked the same 1 -7 for last two years with hardly any guests it's never been better .. never heard nothing form any Swindon fan being worried about Ellis Perks riding for a Pl side ...as I said just more myths made up . Because of the high ave age of a speedway fan they tend to moan about most things some with good reason but most of the time just for the sake of it .

  35. Some comments made by (I think) Dale Allitt in the SS last week were worth reading a few times. I came to the conclusion from his words that at Wolverhampton, Cook was taken out of the match by Paramedics because he was experiencing some kind of mental meltdown, which Allitt found distressing to witness. If that was actually what happened, then shouldn't Craig Cook have been automatically barred from riding for a set time period, both for his own well being, and the safety of other riders?

  36. Its a laughable decision. Cook is guilty of starting the whole sequence of events which led to other bans. In essence his club as got off scott free....not fair at all. What is even more laughable is people saying 'leave him alone, he's got mental health issues'...well if that's the case he definitely should not be on a speedway track right now.

  45. That's two league matches, which they arranged to get them in before the cut-off. We are running against Redcar in the league on Sunday - before the cut-off, as I'm pretty sure the BSPA/SCB (whichever!) wanted to happen. Why run a Cup Final six weeks before the season has ended "just to get it in" as a Double Header, when it's been proven in the past at Newcastle, Double Headers are a money loss, as described by Arthur Cross above - and we can have another meeting to look forward to?
