Now that we have a NL side again for the first time since 2005 hopefully be able to bring through our next crop of up and coming Scottish riders like before. just the sort of platform the likes of the miller brothers need to progress.4 points

More good news that was mentioned on Saturday night - Terry will still be doing the track next season.4 points

I get the feeling some people on here are just trying to wind Poolebolton up... I have not really read the Poole thread, so I don't know his/her background... Might be a right pain in the arse, but from what I have seen he/she seems like a decent honest poster on this forum and the only reason people are giving him/her a hard time is because he/she is a Poole fan... Don't really see what he/she has done wrong here other than predict results on a PREDICTIONS thread? A league that his/her team is in too... Some people confuse me on here and seem to hold grudges against what seem like (to me) perfectly reasonable forum users... If anyone's the troll here it isn't Poolebolton... Again I must stress that I have not read any Poole threads so I dunno the background to this hostility against them... And I know Poole are a bit of a controversial club at times, but why take it out on the club's fans and give them a hard time on a public forum? If what I know is right, what Poole tried to do with that certain Danish rider was not very well, but EVERY team has tried little tricks like that at some point in time... Like when the Diamonds (I'll use my team as an example to show I'm not being bias) tried to bring in Robert Lambert as a 2.00er!! Despite the fact he had EL experience at that point in time already... I welcome Poole to this league with open arms personally, a new team, new faces, a big name in this league making up extra numbers!! What is wrong with that? It's nothing but good for our Championship that it continues to grow!! I'd rather Poole be in this league than go bust and not exist at all4 points

116 pages about Poole 2020 in the Premiership section seems to prove facts are totally irrelevant!3 points

You say you can confirm 5 are correct - then only include 2 of them in your team. You've also forgotten MPT has been confirmed.3 points

It's a League where you cant rule anyone out I don't think. I think Leicester are very strong and don't under-estimate those Thompson Twins! Glasgow don't look as strong to me and I agree with concerns about Sedgeman in particular I don't think Somerset are as strong either but REDCAR look to me to be the ones to beat at the moment. I naturally think Brummies will have a much better season but a niggle that when we go away all opponents will need is a slick track to beat us but we could be dark horses. Scunthorpe look very weak to me and I'm not sure about Kent especially at reserve. Edinburgh / Berwick / Eastbourne have all got sides who should be very tough to beat at home. Edinburgh have big hitters away, Eastbourne have 2-3 who could markedly improve their average but Berwick may struggle again away, although I think Leon Flint (with Drew Kemp) the probably BIG British improvers in 2020. Wait to see about Newcastle. As for Poole, very welcome and be very interesting to see what remainder of Team is. I'll make a 1 - 12 prediction one we know full line up's but at moment would have REDCAR on top and SCUNTHORPE on bottom. Dark horses Brummies and Edinburgh.3 points

Why shouldn't he be allowed to make prediction based on completed teams, there's absolutely no harm in that! Personally I enjoyed reading his predictions!3 points

Credit to the Edinburgh promotion a long awaited return for NL speedway north of the border. Here's hoping both sets of supporters give this there full support.2 points

Someone, i'm not sure if it was lisa as i can't be bothered to go back thru said something about the age of a rider not being relevant as they were young so would therefore improve anyway. The argument isn't black and white. Just a little pathetic the constant harping on imo.2 points

BSPA statement:- BRITISH Speedway’s National Development League will come to the tapes with seven clubs next season. The third tier AGM was concluded on Monday where substantial work was completed in order to balance the needs of stand-alone sides and those who operate in the NDL in addition to their senior outfits. The league is delighted to welcome the Armadale Devils as a new entry for 2020, bringing regular NDL racing back to Scotland, whilst regrettably losing Cradley Heath and Stoke from the competition due to their publicised stadium issues.Armadale join stand-alone clubs Isle of Wight, Mildenhall and Plymouth along with Belle Vue Colts, champions Leicester Lion Cubs, and Kent – who remain in the NDL alongside their entry to senior Championship level. The stand-alone clubs will compete in all three full team competitions, whilst Leicester will also defend the KO Cup, and two major events will also be coming to each of the stand-alone venues. The points limit for NDL team-building rises to 39.00, and a change from last season sees the elimination of the 2.00 minimum average, which has now reverted to 3.00.SUMMARYNDL Clubs: Armadale, Belle Vue, Isle of Wight, Kent, Leicester, Mildenhall, Plymouth.NDL Format: 1 home, 1 away – play-offs to decide the league title for the top four.NDL KO Cup semi-finals: Leicester v Isle of Wight; Mildenhall v Plymouth.NDL Trophy: Isle of Wight, Mildenhall, Plymouth (1 home, 1 away)MAJOR EVENTS (Dates to be confirmed)NDL Riders’ Championship: MildenhallNDL Pairs: Isle of WightNDL Fours: PlymouthThere will be three British U21 Qualifiers in 2020, these to take place at Isle of Wight, Mildenhall and Plymouth.NEW RULES FOR NDL TROPHY MEETINGS* Immediately prior to the meeting, the away team manager will select two races between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive where the highest-averaged rider from each team in that race will start from a 15-metre handicap.* Between Heats 5 and 12 inclusive (except for the races pre-selected as above), an additional tactical option is available to a team six or more points in arrears who can, on one occasion, select gate positions for the following race.British Speedway Chairman Rob Godfrey said: “A lot of hard work has gone into the arrangements for the National Development League, and as an association we are very keen to preserve the three tiers of British Speedway.“We have had to strike a balance between the interests of the stand-alone clubs and those who run in the NDL in addition to their senior teams, and we believe the outcome of the AGM is that those needs have been met for all clubs involved.“I’d like to thank all the clubs for their co-operation. It is a big commitment especially for those who are running two teams, and it is particularly pleasing to see NDL racing returning to Scotland, so I congratulate the management at Edinburgh on taking their place at this level.“We were very keen to ensure the additional meaningful fixtures that stand-alone clubs require beyond the regular league programme, and the various events that are heading to those venues means that should prove to be the case.“The NDL is a highly valued division in British Speedway and I am sure we can look forward to another excellent year of racing in 2020.”2 points

https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/news-centre/article/2019-12-16/armadale-enter-national-development-league welcome back to the dale devils. Great to see we’ve now got a NL team again this far north. Hopefully the stepping stone that we require to bring on some of the young riders we have up here like before with the like of William Lawson, Derek Sneddon and Andrew Tully.2 points

I think Czhekova takes the crown for number 1 as it stands. I think the NSS is 2nd. Agree totally, if you shifted the place to Poland I think the racing would be even better than we see over here on it, and that is down purely to the quality of rider Would absolutely kill for a GP at the NSS2 points

It’s the 2 and 4 in the team which worries me. I think you have 3 solid heat leaders. And reserves who can improve. But it’s just the 2 and 4. I like Garcia I just hope he steps up.2 points

Think the point is 7.16 isn’t a figure you’d call expensive for a rider of his calibre. Whether you think he’d increase it or not is up for debate and I personally think he’d push that up towards the 8 mark, but you certainly wouldn’t call him a poor signing on such a figure.2 points

Unusual move but has a lot of credit. He rides Brough well through being with the Gems this year, and proved a good test for Josh at no 2. Always good to sign assets especially when they are young, and we can stand back and watch his progress like other good ones we have produced.1 point

If you only caught part of it then you don’t know what the point is. She suggested that it will be a struggle to name any riders that have and straight away names were given. She then changed the goalposts to ask for more names. Unless you’ve read the whole thread then best not comment. I’ve no intention in getting into yet another pointless discussion about this. Whether my original comment is right or wrong, Lisa won’t accept that she got it wrong that no one could name any riders. It’s pointless getting into a debate with someone who changes the goal posts with every post. The facts are she said I’d struggle to name any and names have been mentioned but won’t accept she was wrong. Anyway, it’s beyond juvenile and about time this thread was locked or moved to the CL.1 point

I seem to remember this member having a number of spats a few months ago when she got similarly het up and kept on and on and on, even accusing other members of bullying. I thought she took my friendly suggestion at the time of maybe using the close season as a perfect time to chill away from the forum. Seems that hasn't exactly happened.1 point

It's a very interesting question and one which goes to the heart of when did speedway begin. A rider called Don Johns who started around 1909 and won the National Dirt Track Championship in Chicago in 1912 may have been the first to slide round a bend without brakes. A contemporary description of him goes like this, “Don Johns preferred to barnstorm the 1-mile dirt track circuits of California and the Midwest, gaining experience as well as a reputation as the hardest fighting rider in the no-holds-barred game. By 1914, Johns had improved to such an extent that the Excelsior could not hold him. He would ride the entire race course wide open, throwing great showers of dirt into the air at each turn.” How else could you throw great showers of dirt into the air on the bends if not by sliding? Was Johns the first speedway rider in the world? He was followed shortly afterwards by another American called Albert “Shrimp” Burns who was killed in a track crash on 14 August 1921. Part of his obituary written by C.E.B. Clement, which appeared in Motorcycle and Bicycle Illustrated reads, “I strolled down the track to watch him take the turns. Here he came with that motor humming a great tune and into the turn he went. Watching him handle that machine in the long slide all the way around, I saw in fancy, the then great battler of the day, Don Johns. For Burns was holding the pole and fighting the rear wheel in a manner that very closely resembled the work of the then known hardest fighter of the racing game.” After the War, in the late teens and early twenties, two more Americans, Maldwyn Jones and Eddie Brinck, were renowned for the way they threw their bikes in to the bends and broadsided round, using what was known as the pendulum skid. Now, whether any of this was actually leg trailing is another matter. And so we move on to Australia... If any American may have influenced any Australians as to the advantages of broadsiding, it would have been Cecil Brown an American who rode in Australia in the early to mid 1920s. However, Brown didn't race all over Australia during the establishment of the popularity of racing on small tracks so it maybe that, just as speedway evolved, the art of "broadsiding" evolved on tracks throughout Australia as riders fought for ways to gain an advantage over their opponents while cornering aboard their powerful machines on the tighter tracks. For example, in Brisbane during the 1926-27 season, Vic Huxley was given the nickname "Broadside" Vic Huxley. He wouldn't have seen Brown nor Eddie Brinck nor Sprouts Elder (who came over later) race, so we can't be sure it was an American who taught him the art of broadsiding. He may just have developed it himself independently. By the time the Australians came over to Britain in 1928, leg trailing was well established as the preferred (and only) method of sliding round the bends.1 point

They seem to have got it about right tbf. The points limit situation is better than last season and not much else you could’ve done meetings wise when there’s only 3 stand alone teams in the league. Hopefully the shared events get adequately supported. Nice to see a new team come in but I fear for the long journeys those Northern riders are going to have to make regularly and likewise for the riders of other clubs on a Friday night.1 point

Andersen had a pretty bad season with injuries and rode as a heatleader for much of it, if he is in the team as a second string and has a clear run free of issues I think it’s inevitable that he will improve his average.1 point

They just don’t have a number 1. Jake Allen has to kick on. And can Ayers keep going with the form he had. It’s a potential squad for sure. But it’s just missing that guy who will get you 10-12 points a meeting.1 point

Always thought it was Jones and Brinck was his pupil. Would be easy to solve if there are pics of Jones leg trailing before Brincks career started, although It still wouldn't prove categorically that Jones invented the style The answer probably isn't here, but it is an amazing site covering the early US motorcycle racing period http://archivemoto.com/archive Some interesting comments on this story about laying the bike over and also the bit about not sliding, so obviously the others were sliding http://archivemoto.com/thearchive/2019/1/31/in-his-own-words-morty-graves1 point

That's exactly what GB Speedway needs ... "riders on a level playing field and they can all beat each other on any given night" .... good close racing !!!1 point

Charles Wright, 2019 British champion rides for Redcar Must admit, Cookie has been the best for a long time... But I think Charles may have just overtaken him... Or at least on last years evidence... Just my opinion of course Barely anything between them... You might argue that Cook's an ex GP rider, and has a higher average in the PL than Charles, but that's the past... Put them on the track right now, race them 10 times and I reckon it would finish 6/4 to Charles... On a neutral track1 point

Not anti Redcar at all... Or else I'd put them in 12th I've put my own team below them for christ sakes I think they have a very good 1-5 but might struggle at reserve, I've been as honest as I could be... They're still well within a playoffs spot, which I think they will be come the end of the season Good luck to them, and the 11 other teams also No problem, I'd say it about any club as I don't want to see any club folding or being attacked, even if they are a bit controversial, we are a speedway family, slowly dying... We don't need inside fighting, we need to be fighting against other sports to get ourselves recognised and more secure!! Also I know Stefan will be at number 2, I worded it slightly wrong... I meant "Top 3 plus Stefan. And Josh at reserve" which was a whole new point... Just didn't have the correct grammar Let's eat, Grandma. Vs Lets eat Grandma and all that... Most teams are easy to predict as most riders in the league aren't new faces (Besides Edinburgh this year)... Maybe they are to Poole fans though as they've just come from a higher league, which is fair enough Like the optimism lol Hope you're right tbh as if the Diamonds folded I think Berwick would have been my new go to team, even though I live 5 minutes from Redcar and 90 minutes from Berwick1 point

I am happy to accept whichever av is correct. Just wanted someone to explain why there is a discrepancy. Even emailed SGB for clarification as to how/why but not replied. If balance after say Ellis (If signed) is 8.96/97 then fine by me. I don’t want to cheat just get an accurate idea of points left in playing the who we might try and sign game. If below 9 balance then it closes off some possible team combos and opens up others. stop being an idiot in thinking everyone who likes Poole wants to cheat. More than happy to abide by the team building rules1 point

Nice to see some true promotional thinking.. For me, I've always thought clubs should 'raffle off' a season ticket at say the first ten meetings or so.. £5 a ticket.. Get 100 fans paying and you get five hundred quid per season ticket.. Do it for the first ten matches or so, (so still excellent value to be had with around half a season left), and the ten tickets could be worth £5000... And surely, more than a 100 'regulars' would chance a fiver a meeting so possibly even more money to be had.?1 point
