Anyone seen the fridge magnets being sold on e-bay at the moment? There's one with a nice team photo from the early seventies

plus individual ones of Ted and Barney.
I'm sitting here surrounded by Canterbury programmes and I think I can give you the definitive answer. Ted became captain in 1973 when Ross Gilbertson threw a sickie and then signed for Eastbourne (much to JSH's chagrin, I seem to remember). Ted retained the captaincy until he left for Hackney at the end of 1974. Les Rumsey was skipper in 1975 and Barney succeeded him the following year, 1976, and held the post until the end of the 1980 season. Mike Ferreira took over for 1981 (Barney skippered the side for a few matches towards the end of the season) and Denzil Kent had a go in 1982. Barney was back at the helm in '83 and 84.
Looking through the old progs last night, it looks as though Ted succeeded Ross as skipper in '73. I'll have to do a more thorough check but I think Les Rumsey followed Ted and then Barney took over around '75 or '76.
Any ideas where he came from Duncrusadin? All know is this lad or man should I say is an electrician and works in Dover sub-contracting at the moment and was telling the lads that he was racing Jan 4 or 5th I think somewhere abroad.
He used to live in Deal, but I've lost track of him - we both rode is SE centre Grasstracks around the same time (late seventies/early eighties). I remember sending him a get well card when he broke his leg ice racing but that was years ago. He'd only be in his mid forties now, so it's quite possible that he's still riding.
Just in case you thought I had gone to sleep the answer is

I think it was Bert Harkins and Dave Jessup, Kev. I've still got the prog at home with all their autographs on it so I'll dig it out next time I'm in the loft and check.
Me too! Like most people, I half believed all the rubbish about the Sturry Road track, only to be disappointed when nothing happened. Having spent the intervening years making occasional visits to Arena, Rye House and now Wimbledon, I'm hoping that the plans come to fruition at Iwade so I'll have a regular team to support again.
