  1. It is actually in Kent ! Not far off M20. It is a grass track venue which was revived last year.
  2. A remark in the Sussex newspaper, the Argus, today attributed to Eagles promoter, Jon Cook throws some light on Elite League costs. He is quoted as saying a top speedway rider would earn £300,000 from riding in GPs over ten years but might expect to earn 1 million from riding in the Elite League for the same period. If that is correct it is easy to see where the Sky money has gone.
  3. Nice to know there is more than one vegetarian on the list Gem. I have been a veggie for two thirds of my life.
  4. They would also have to lay a temporary track. ;-) :clown If they upgrade I would have thought a permanent one Kev. Twice the size of the present in order to get Shov's 500,000 fans in.
  5. Great, so no cardiff needed then When you have done fitting 40000 seats around arlington, give us a call. I have been to Cardiff twice and I believe they made a reasonable job of the track there, certainly from the fan's point of view. Other stadiums have failed badly. There is no way that arlington could stage a GP without demolishing half of neighbouring Hailsham !
  6. Steve I agree completely with what you say. These one event tracks are not as good as tracks which have been bedded down for years. Existing tracks need to be upgraded to avoid another farce like tonight’s. On the personal front what will happen to Eastbourne’s meeting next Saturday ? Presumably it will have to be postponed.
  7. Sounds good RogH but it would be just the seven or eight EL clubs getting a share of the proceeds ? If the money was spread throughout speedway it would help to make a more level playing field. But can you really see that happening ?
  8. May I add my congratulations to Team GB including their manager who had more foresight than most of us forum members. Everyone put in a lot of effort and nobody can ask for more. In view of the track conditions I am really thankful there were no serious injuries.
  9. That sounds like a brilliant idea. It would certainly keep interest for losing countries longer. Best of all it would avoid these 5 man races.
  10. Blimey! You WERE keen going a day early! then Well it was a long time ago. 30 years ?
  11. Blimey! You WERE keen going a day early! It must be my age Bryn It is alright for you youngsters but I could swear it was Friday. Then again it might have been when Eagles raced on Fridays. :?
  12. We can always dream It would be nice to have some local opposition again. Seems a lifetime ago when I was making the trip to Canterbury on a Friday evening to watch a local derby match.
  13. The Premier League is running well as many have said before. The so called "Elite" League should become less elite and get rid of the GP riders with their heavy pay demands. I would be sorry to lose Mark Loram but I cannot see the EL continuing without big cuts in costs. If Ipswich move into the PL next year the league will consist of 7 teams. The GP riders could be put together as a travelling show and hired out for one off meetings at tracks that could afford them. Now I expect a hail of bullets !
  14. One of the problems hinted at by Rabbit is that promoters often have a company that they are connected with that "gives" a sponsorship deal to a rider on top of standard pay. I cannot see how the BSPA could have the power to inspect the accounts of a company which was not acting as a promoter.
  15. 32 and 31 I believe. Norris first rode on his 16th birthday in August 1998 and Barker first rode in 1997 as far as I know. I agree that neither is brilliant on large tracks. Barker is a bit better than Norris but on small tracks they are brilliant. Would not like to see them racing at Sheffield ! Certainly agree about David Howe. Not seen so much of Simon Stead but youth is on his side. Eddie Kennett for the future though.
