  1. From the Jap book that I have it states the following J = 500cc side valve 80x90 bore & stroke O = overhead valves (cancels the reference to side valve in preceeding letter) S = Short stroke sportts engine (or special) However the following mark(s) after the JOS/ should be a LETTER this refers to the year of manufacture. Hope it helps a bit I am sure there are more people out ther that know of these things! Colin
  2. I thought the whole weeks event looked exciting and highly entertaining even with the Poles amassing high scores twice. Just an aside, but with the blatant (imo) nerfing off of the Pole in the 'run offs' by a certain Swede, did i not see something similar (but failed) against a Mr S Nicholls last night? Colin
  3. Reading your post Nostalgic, reminds me what a sad old git I am, in remembering the speedway of the late 60's & 70's I had a 'moment' some time ago and when I was in a position to do so I bought an old JAP speedway m/c, which I start up every so often 'just to keep it turning over' but the noise & smell makes the hair on me neck stand up, scares the sh--e out of the dogs & the neighbours stare at me willing to stop it, but I'm gone by then, away in my own little world, to me it's like music Can't ride it to save me life but it gives the memory banks a top up!! Sad I know, but I'm harmless Colin..
  4. Bryan (Badger) Goss, although didn't quite make it in speedway, but he had a go!!
  5. thankyou cheetahawk. How sad it is, I have fond memories of the 1979 season, following the Cheetahs on their northern tour, Edinburgh, Berwick and Newcastle. George was a really great team man. My dear Mum used to enjoy watching him and Dave Shields.
  6. Whilst reading the best pair's thread I saw an entry for Scotland included "the late George Hunter". Forgive my ignorance but is this the George Hunter that rode for Oxford in the late seventies? if so when did he sadly leave us? George was one of the best things to happen to Oxford.
