Danish Individual Champ,semi-finals
iris123 replied to iris123's topic in International World of Speedway
Both meetings called off because of rain and will try to be run today. At least i got to see the 80cc div 1 meeting in Skaerbaek.Good to meet Peter S again, but i guess as Slangerup finished last he wasn't too happy with the day.Rain started in Skaerbaek slowly about 11:30.Travelled up with little hope to Esbjerg. Not been to the track for a few years and they have certainly made great improvements. All was not lost as madea nice little visit to Ribe.Only 4° there though!!!!By Flensburg it was 8° and 17 when we got back to Hamburg.Hope all goes well today for both meetings -

You have both only been here a few years and the stop start stream was just a couple of years back. You are talking as if it was the good old days last century Now if you remember the days when Liverstam + Tarabanko/Zetters were giving us the news from Sweden and Tommy from Zielona Gora was our Polish correspondent in the days before Google Chrome translated everything into gobbledygook instantly, when SCB + Jill ,although sparing in their use of the alphabet for their 'nicks' accounted for about 50% of the daily posts on here.....the days before the Fairies and the Mexicans were causing havoc....the times when Bila Hora was so fascinated by Poland and the sweet bisexual angel Kitten also from the Green Mountain town were amongst our midst....when Sandman used to sail in and confuse us with his tales of life on the ocean waves and what he and his crew used to do in their spare time....then and only then can you start going dewy eyed at the old times.........and even they were only about 7 or 8 years back No.They are plenty on here who have been watching Polish and Swedish streams or looking in to updates and getting dvd's sent to us from friends abroad. We might not post after or during every meeting or after every heat, but we are here all the same.Have been for years and will be for years to come i hope.Good health to one and all -

Looks like another addition to my collection. As way of an introduction to speedways origins, any mention of how and when speedway first started?

Nice one Jack. You are certainly finding a lot of dodgy quotes. At least it gives the historians people to track down and show the real evidence to.Keep up the good work. But in amongst your efforts to find these unreliable quotes and search out the history of Cycle Speedway now,you seem to have again forgotten to answer a question put to you

Hope the weather holds up.Yesterdays meetingwas delayed and then called off after a few heats, but at least it is dry at the moment http://www.motorspor...ts-4804894.html The official debut of Gerd Riss' sons Just read training has been cancelled.Start at 14:00 here or 13:00 british time -
I'd say calling the debate a draw is rather like the Monty Python knight who lost all his limbs wanting to call his fight a draw

19 year old Charlie Biddle was killed a few weeks after the first meeting in 1928

Well the link for the Daugavpils meeting was on Facebook a few times, plus the Russian speedway forum.I imagine that this will be the case for every Daugavpils home meeting.Looked a bit wobbly, the camera work, but was still fine to watch.Hope they show all the meetings live and hope some other clubs do so as well
-
It does seem the message is slowly getting through. This is the latest from the world of tv....."It's still debatable when speedway was established....." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUhy_LbjHQY

I'd agree wholeheartedly with that. There have been a few here who seem to think Poland is the bees knees and speedway is great there and fairly crap in GB.'Bydgoszcz is a fantastic track that was only ever spoilt when Ole Olsen came to town.....'.But as we saw the other week the track was pretty poor without Ole.Last year they also fined one or two clubs for the state of their tracks,so it is not so clear cut as some try to make out. What they do have in Eastern Europe is good-super stadiums and very good crowds, which produce a great atmosphere. The problem in GB and western Europe in general is you have terrible stadia and generally poor crowds which then produces .next to no atmosphere. It doesn't help then when newcommers go to their first meeting to find dodgy toilet facilities and one man and a dog.....you go to a meeting in Poland and youcome away with a totally different feeling/impression of the sport. It is modern and exciting.I do think it helps having a stadium in town rather than out in the middle of nowhere, which iswhat you find in Germany,Denmark and Sweden as well as increasingly also GB

Won't try and kid you that it is speedway at its best, but better than Zielona Góra or last weeks meeting from Gorzów imo.s Yesterday meeting(which was also live)from Daugavpils.Lokomotive v Start Gniezno http://www.grani.lv/daugavpils/24897-gonka-lokomotiv-start-gnezno-foto-video.html Some good speedway, sunshine and a packed stadium with the added extra of Miss Speedway on the parade

Missed the first 8 heats or so,but imo it was just average speedway.Ok,the score was close, but as a neutral the score interests me less than the racing and that was nothing to shoutabout.Pretty spread out after the first lap,the same as an average meeting in the EL or Bundesliga or anywhere else. The Kolodziej v Jonsson battle was good. But that was only two laps and i always thought Kolodziej had the upper hand.Andreas had to block him or wait for amistake that never came.Good race though, but nothing out of the ordinary. In most meetings you expect 2 or 3 good heats. Some people obviouslyhave other opinions and other expectations, but as a neutral i just look for good racing
-
Jack,we have been here before.I posted a link to one of,maybe the earliest reference to 'speedway racing'.Indianapolis 1909.Not specific to motorbikes, just a general term for the motorised racing at Indianapolis Speedway. So your reference to USA freeways is misleading and Melbourne is obviously quite afew years after, although at least shows that the term had travelled over to Oz. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indianapolis-motor-speedway_1909-0923.jpg

Sure they need an airfence,Which makesme wonder didn't the FIM know they didn't have one?Seems unlikely.Or was an airfence promised by the promoters and then they couldn't deliver?
