So as expected, Rory goes back to Wolves. Cook is off to the Pussycats, so just who IS going to be our heatleaders? Nicholls and King you’d expect are Certainties, but neither are heatleaders. Maybe third heatleader at a push but we’ll need bigger hitters than those two. Lets just hope Louis can pull a Rabbit out of the hat and this mystery foreigner is a good un! He’s going to need to be!!

I’d take Cam at reserve also, but the Cam that finished the season not the one who started! He was awful for Wolves, but that coincided with his poor form in general for us. There’s no doubt he didn’t do himself justice and he’s far far better than he showed. When you look at some of the riders who get reserve berths in the top flight, you’d have to say Cam is better than quite a few of them in the second tier. You could argue that some of the second strings as well. If he comes back much better prepared this time, I’d have no problem with him at reserve.

Does Buster call the shots?
Arch Stanton replied to 2ndbendbeerhut's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The truth is that NOBODY on here knows. We don’t know to what extent their business relation is. The deal with Peterborough could be totally different from the deal he has with Ipswich. We know Louis has insisted on certain clauses and has a buy back option, we haven’t heard of anything similar with Peterborough. One Lynn fan told us on here not to expect any rider announcements this side of Christmas, it’s the Buster way. And yet Peterborough have just announced two and we’re looking to reveal the full 7 before Christmas! Nobody knows exactly what details are involved with this so called “commercial” deal. -
Dad’s Army? Think you’ve mistaken us for the Pussycats there Col! Two signings confirmed, one 36 and the other 38. They now just need to sign up the Silver Fox to add a 40 something and they’ll have a full regiment
-
I actually feel a bit better reading that. We know Louis is as passionate about Ipswich as any of us, and it’s good to know that he’s insisted on clauses to buy the club back if he’s not happy with the way things turn out. He’s still very much in the picture.

Louis working on the “final details” of a buy back clause with Keith Chapman. Things will then be evaluated in 12 months time, according to the Speedway Star today. Louis hopes to have the team sorted by Christmas, with “a focus on the sharp end”. “An awful lot of groundwork has gone in to it and I definitely feel like we are getting closer. “We’re working very hard on an exciting top end and that influences what else you can do within the points limit. We are looking at a good top end which means slightly less strength somewhere else but that’s normal in team building”. Interesting. Can surely only mean one thing, welcome Tai Edit: Tungate hasn’t had a single call and is concerned about a team place in 2019. He’s text both Chris Louis AND Hawkins, and hasn’t had a reply off either. Think we can discount him

Peterborough Panthers 2019
Arch Stanton replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Maybe, but I’d take Cook over both of those personally. -
Then you have to beg the question why didn’t we just stay put? Or was Louis given an offer he couldn’t refuse by Chapman to enable the Premiership to run with enough clubs? More questions than answers. After my initial positivity of moving up, that positivity is turning to negativity with each passing day! Lets hope we’re all pleasantly surprised....

Unless that “plus 1” is Tai Woffinden then that side has bottom written all over it

You could also argue, that the team that finishes top isn’t ALWAYS the “best”, but the luckiest! Many factors can contribute, including injuries (obviously) and timing. Some teams meet opponents who are noticeably weaker than the rest and pick up the points, whereas others meet them just after they’ve strengthened up due to a drop in the averages. Its the only way we can judge who is the best over the season, and it’s as close to fair as we’ll ever get. But it’s certainly a fallacy to suggest that the top team is always the best.
-
Which would you prefer? Come on now it’s a very simple question!!
-
It’s a pretty simple question to answer! What would you prefer, Lynn to finish 4th next season and win the title and take the trophy, or finish 1st and win nothing but a few condescending pats on the back? It’s a simple question that I’m pretty sure I know your answer to!!
-
You didn’t answer the question? And of course it’s all about winning! This is SPORT!
-
Why are you bringing up a convicted cheat? Totally irrelevant. Look, 2019 if you could choose Lynn to top the table and win F all, or finish fourth and take home the title and trophy, what would you prefer?
-
The “facts” state that Poole were 2018 title winners and will have that honour added to their honours list. Kings Lynn won’t. Simple as that.
-
I personally wouldn’t have any of Nicholls, King OR Harris. King has been a solid #1 for us in the lower tier, but has been poor in the top flight. And this was before his nasty injury that we’re not sure how he’s going to return from. Nicholls has been on the downward slide for a few years now and to be fair to him, you’d expect nothing else considering he’s now in to his 40’s! There’s already a feeling of apprehension about next season by those on here at least, and signing the likes of these two will only add to those feelings of same old same old. Maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised! Who knows.

You beat me to it!

We’ll agree to disagree.

Ged Rathbone provided an update on the Peterborough website only a few days ago so that would dispel that theory.

When we first moved down to the Championship in 2011, I was absolutely gutted and I didn’t even attend a single meeting for that first year. My enthusiasm had completely disappeared. I then reluctantly tagged along to a meeting the following year due to my employers sponsoring the meeting and due to the fact my work colleagues then became regular attendees, I also then became a regular again with them. I started to enjoy my Speedway again and although I still had that desire to see us return to the top flight, that desire lessened with every season. My initial reaction a few weeks ago when the news broke that we had moved up, was excitement and the feeling it was definitely the right time especially with the Championship being watered down. The caveat of course, was the apprehension surrounding the sale of the club by Louis, and to Chapman of all people. Now the dust has settled and I’ve had time to reflect, I’m now actually gutted we’ve moved up. Never thought that would ever happen! I can’t be the only one who has been watching in envy at some of our riders joining other Championship sides? The “watering down” hasn’t been as dramatic as I first thought. The likes of Somerset and Sheffield in particular have built very good looking sides. We could have retained King, Schlein/Covatti and Heeps and also took advantage of Kemp on a 2.00 average and had another crack at that elusive title under the continued “safe” ownership of Louis. Instead, we’re now under the ownership of a prat who just stupidly publicly stated he doesn’t like us and has the blood of our arch enemies running through his veins, and all the uncertainty of not having a scooby whether we’ll be even competitive let alone challenging. We do of course have to wait and see how this all plays out, but right at this moment, it has the feeling of a massive own goal from Louis and the potential to be a disaster. I hope I’m proved completely wrong..
-
Hard to argue with any of that.
-
I agree with Taps there’s still a long time before the season starts, but having said that, it IS very very quiet from everyone from Louis to Mike Bacon and the local press. The team clearly takes more time and is more complicated than a championship septet, but some sort of update from somebody would be nice. A few Peterborough supporters were getting a bit impatient also, but at least they’ve now had an update of sorts from Ged. More than we’ve had!

I’d say it’s odds on Cam will be in the side personally... Edit: I’ve only just noticed, but has Cam got just a little bit TOO excited about the golf?
-
It’s going to be an Andersen Nicholls “spearhead” isn’t it..
-
I have no idea why, but I’ve got it in my head that relations between Tungate and Louis wasn’t/isn’t the best? I can’t remember if something happened back in the day or it’s all in my head..
