  1. A decent meeting after a slow start.

Holder- Superb performance, best I've seen him. Rode similarly to last year in the Fours. The sponsors choice of man of the match was ridiculous, Holder won that meeting for Peterborough.

Lambert- Struggled, doesn't look confident and would be expected to beat Mountain at the Showground.

Bjerre- Brilliant to watch, albeit his wild style may have cost him a few points. Good value.

Ostergaard- Did his job, felt he should've been in 15 instead of Bjerre, however guessing his injuries contributed to the decision.

Wilson-Dean- Did well but will have better meetings. Impressed with his start to the season.

Bacon- Feel for him, think he may be able to cut it at this level but just don't think the Showground suits him. Hope he's given a chance to improve.

King- Struggled early on, good before heat 15 which he should never have been in. Think the close friendship between Danny and Ritchie may have prevented the right decision here. The fact that he isn't fully fit makes the decision seems even more mystifying.

Sarjeant- Flew out to lead one race but not enough pace and was last by bend three. No questions about him keeping a place in the side when Newman returns.

Covatti- Nothing special today but a good ride late on. Good to watch.

Heeps- Fantastic performance by Cameron. No one was catching him when he gated so amazed Hawkins didn't just risk him in heat 15 and throw him in.

Schlein- Very impressed with Rory. Looks fit and strong, no doubt he'll be back in the Premiership soon too. Cracking ride in 15, just couldn't get there.

Hume- Did what was expected by beating Bacon. Looks good, wasn't out of contention in any races.

Mountain- Very impressive today, looks better every time I see him. Ipswich will be delighted to have him and Hume at reserve this year, if both stay fit, they'll improve quickly.

Surely this is the whole point of the forum? Discussions are what it's for and it's always interesting to read how people see meetings.

Very good summary and bang on the money.

  2. Not a bad meeting and a few good races. Not particularly a fan of Holder I think he's a tad overrated, but he impressed me today. Much much better from him. King was actually feeling worse today than he was on Saturday which is surprising. Needs a good few days to rest his body. Agree with the above we need Newman fit and in the side ASAP to realise the full potential of the side. I can see us getting stronger as the season progresses. Both lads at reserve will continue their progress and Mountain in particular is coming off a nasty injury and long lay off so a lot more to come from the pair of them.

A point on the road is always welcome. Pick up a few points away from home here and there and remain unbeaten at home which I think we will this year, should be good enough for top 4.

  3.

And here we have the two sides of the coin: when it's your track it's "The track was a racers track and was there to be raced, for those that were actually prepared to attack it and race!", but when you get that as a visitor it turns into a ploughed field.

We don't do ploughed field any more, so my money's on slick one line after not too long. Whether that turns out to be good remains to be seen.

There's a world of difference between attacking a grippy track which was entirely possible on Thursday, and trying to ride the Showground when it was like a ploughed field as I'm sure you know full well. You say it's not like that anymore fair enough, but some of those tracks were barely rideable let alone raceable.

As a regular at both the EOES and Foxhall, i can assure you that entertainment wise the Showground is light years ahead of Foxhall. A grippy Foxhall is not a recipe for good racing, and never has been...

Not a single person has claimed any different. You won't find one Ipswich supporter that will claim Foxhall produces more entertainment than the Showground so I'm not sure why you brought that in to the equation.

The Showground is widely regarded as one of the best race tracks in the country, unfortunately there aren't many others like it.

I disagree with your assessment that a grippy Foxhall has never been a recipe for good racing though.

  4. you have to look at both sides of the coin ,

was the Ipswich track grippy , I would say it was very grippy to grippy for panthers riders , not for the home team tho they managed to have the set-ups and nous to get round the track ,

    was the meeting any good

not really was a bit of farce , panthers not producing anything to note bar B.W.D (who was freewheeling round turns 3 and 4 some races he was that far clear early heats)and a lesser extent holder who looked like he didn't need stabilisers like the rest of panthers riders

it wasn't entertainment as such(i'm sure plenty of other teams will get pasteings at foxhall) it's louis call to how he wants the track , if the riders want it grippy good luck to them , I can see a few dodgy sick notes from riders and fans next time panthers are there . at the end of the day the losing team have to have a excuse ,they can huff and puff all they like but panthers never had the skill or put in the effort to get round the track and because of it the match was poor

"Too grippy"?? Oh do me a favour! Anyone who wasn't there will get the impression it was a ploughed potato field akin to the tripe the Showground has served up over the years!! It was far from that. If that track these days is considered "too grippy" then I despair at what this sport has become. The best performers on the night were two inexperienced kids who have only a couple of years experience between them, and a rider (King) who was untouchable having had a horrible fall 2 days earlier, was battered and bruised and restricted in his movement and who required physio before, during and after the meeting! No sorry, this is all about the pathetic attitude of a few Peterborough riders.

  5. Masters would do nicely IF King wasn't fit.

Actually I wouldn't be unhappy with Steve Worrall either. He's again started the season in fine form for Newcastle.

Have yet to see anything on social media from the club regarding King's fitness. Must be a doubt though with him withdrawing from his guest booking with Poole yesterday.

I'm sure the Panthers fans don't care though! Don't blame them either. Got to be ruthless and take advantage of any weaknesses in the opposition to get points on the board.

    I'd be exactly the same.

  6. I think King will ride both matches, whether he is fully fit remains to be seen.

Well if he's not fully fit I'd rather not gamble and get a guest in. King is pretty dominant at both Foxhall AND the Showground so it would obviously be a blow.

But I hope it's not a case of "I'll give it a go" which could backfire massively. We rely heavily on both King and Schlein hitting double figures which they'll do more often than not, but when they don't we'll see results like we had at Sheffield on Thursday.

  7.

i wasn't there i'll admit, but reading the updates doesn't sound like it was really anything other than gate and go at sheffield last night either...... one of the more exciting sounding heats from what the texter had written, was heat 9 whereby shlein was on a tactical ride - texter posted this to be a ding dong battle with kurtz cutting him off on the last bend...just seen the race on speedwaygb website and frankly schlein got close on the last lap but realistically kurtz had him covered the whole 4 laps from you've guessed it... the gate!!!

at least at foxhall chris louis has recognised the racing can be improved and this winter has for a second time in the last few years has undertaken major work to change the track shape in a bid to create more lines and therefore a better product to watch for the fans!!

I really wouldn't bother he's clearly a clueless berk who enjoys trolling.

8 points between King and Schlein? Don't think we'll see that again this year!

Not overly concerned we're far better than that.

    Well done Sheffield.
