  1. Very pleased to get Jacob who I think will be a good replacement for Simon who obviously didn't have the style for Brough. Many were surprised when Jacob didn't get a ride with the Bears both last year and this year. Although his start with the Bears a few years ago didn't work out, he has always impressed when invited to ride in Open meetings and scored well on Friday in a big Redcar Open meeting. He rode well in a Amateur meeting at Redcar on Saturday, winning the top class for 500 cc's, and rode very well in the private practice session at Brough on Sunday afternoon, getting a lot of rides and being one of the last riders at the end. He lives locally now and, being a Dane, will be company for both Tomas and Lasse. I believe he is from Slangerup, which was Jespers home club, so might see Jesper to have words of advice for him. The timing of this move is spot on as Jacob will be at reserve, which will give him an easier run in the Diamonds ranks whilst he is finding his feet. I look forward to a more balanced team now, and hope that others in the team get over their current problems and score the points expected of them. Happy with this signing and team changes.
  2. Yes, I know the connection of that incident.
  3. Of course Robert, but I was thinking of riders we brought into British Speedway and nurtured them.
  4. And Dag Lovas, Joe Owen, Bjarne Pedersen, Kenneth Bjerre and Kenni Larsen as well. Brian Anderson World U21 rode for us for a short period as well. We haven't done bad as you say. Currently we have the British 150cc Champion in Archie Freeman.
  5. Funny how the reasoning in the Facebook item is welcomed and approved by all but one of its posters, yet on here most of the usual critical posters are dissing what is a very understandable business decision. Perhaps the Eastbourne fans on the Facebook item realise and appreciate the financial concerns, even though it is not their money at risk but the clubs. This thread just goes to show why promoters don't bother to read or appreciate the comments and judgements on here, especially when it's their money at risk not the doubting negative posters.
  6. I would take that risk and it has to be remembered the times could come down, given more practice and advice on how to ride our track. He certainly attacks the track, bike pops a bit and gearing sounds too low. We have nothing to lose IMO, Simon is not doing what he was appointed to do and List could improve with more track time. Something has to change.
  7. From a video interview shown before the season started with Roy interviewing Martin, it appeared George did not appoint the team.
  8. I think the meeting will be won by the Diamonds if they all ride reasonably well. I don't think the Lions will decide the result, but the form of the Diamonds will be the decider. The Lions will give us a good meeting, and it will be good to see Nicholls again.
  9. When we opened up in 1997 I was faced with this problem pretty early on, as we had 2 disabled customers who were regular attenders. As well as trying to do the decent thing, lIke others have said, I also thought it was a legal requirement.
  10. Pretty sure Newcastle has always allowed the Carer in for free, when accompanying a disabled person who needs a Carer.
  11. Most open minded people in speedway know that crowd numbers at Belle Vue are not as great as they need to be, to continue to run such a high cost venue. I would wonder why and from where you got the inkling that the club 'has tons of cash to burn' must rank as the most stupid and untrue comments you are likely to read on this forum. I would wonder where the source of this misinformation came from, and challenge the reason for it to be said. It is seriously not true.
  12. Unbelievable Just saying I think you have reached a decision on what you have 'heard', and you are using it for your own connotation of the situation.
  13. You heard it, but probably put your own connotation on it. It was never a justification.
  14. DD would NOT be justifying the reason for the call off, probably only mentioned it as it meant you had missed a cold and windy night. NOT a justification. Your response is probably why some promoters get pissed off when they try and do the right thing.
  15. Interesting about Gilkes as he might get a run out at Brough soon in the Gems team due to absences.
  16. Flood it earlier then. It gets into the base so is wet for the meeting.
  17. I'm talking around early 00's, hardly a time when Len was losing money. Just trying to consider his fans and the away team. Ironically that's probably one of the things missing these days but you would get stick for doing it. Like in this case.
  18. Len Silver had it off to and art and saved thousands of supporters, hundreds of pounds with his early call offs. When we were at say Somerset the night before our away meeting at Rye, if the weather was suspect we used to get a call off Len of a tip off that the meeting might be in doubt. As agreed, he would ring us as early as he could on the Saturday morning, and if he was calling it off, we had the leisure and time to shoot back up home from our hotel in Swindon, saving us lots of time and petrol money to return home at our convenience. Likewise for the travelling army of fans who used to stay with the team and the management in the same hotel arranged by Joan English(George's Mam). That was a lot of grateful people. Now tell me how that was wrong.
  19. Are you saying that challenging the fans to come in the rain and getting 10 heats in, is a greater consideration of the fans than not to risk it and holding it the following day. Remember the storm was a massive one with high winds and rain, and forecasts can regular be 30 miles out. As someone said in am earlier post, Promoters are on a hiding to nothing to get things like this right. Makes you wonder why they bother doesn't it. Then when they jack it in, they would get stick for that as well. Oh well.
