2012 King of Pinjar & Gordon Rowland Memorial... Congratulations to Victoria's Cory Gathercole on taking out the 2012 Kennards Hire ''King of Pinjar'' solo event. A big crowd was on hand to watch the classy Gathercole finish his Aussie summer on a winning note against one of the best line up's going around with Perth's Cam Heeps (2nd) Denmark's Rasmus Jensen (3rd) & WA's Dan Winchester rounding out the top four. Gathrercole the 2007 WA Solo Champion had some fantastic tussles with Heeps, Smart, Jensen, Sedgmen & Winchester during the heats but the newly signed Newport Wasps rider rode a blinder in the final and was never troubled. Former Aussie U16 Champion & Birthday Boy Ryan Sedgmen rode himself back into some much needed form and confidence with a quality display and looked good for his first ride at the ''Ring" . Sedgmen gave it his all to win the B Semi holding out the hard charging veteran Frank Smart only to be told it would be re-run as the wrong riders had been put in. To Ryan's credit, to hold off Smarty around Pinjar your riding well. Ryan fought hard but second place behind Jensen in the re-run wouldn't be enough to get him to the A main final. Other riders in the 16 man line-up having a solid meeting were Brady Webb, Alan Cass, Tim Boujos, Trevor Williams and Carley Gittus. WA#1 Sheldon Gill wrapped up the prestigious Gordon Rowland Memorial in the junior 125cc division ahead of Kobee Ziedas (2nd) and come back rider Jett Muller (3rd). The junior's put on some great racing during the night and held their own on the big stage in front of a great crowd. Sheldon flew out of the gate in the final and was never headed as he added another trophy to the collection. Blake Russell, Jett Muller, Kobee Ziedas & Gaynor Scobble all battled hard all night with mixed results. It was the 30th anniversary for the Gordon Rowland Memorial for the junior solo's. Gordon was tragically killed in a racing accident and its almost 30 years to the day since his passing. It was a night full of action and controversy, some truly outstanding speedway racing from all divisions plus more falls than a ''one legged arse kicking compition'' with all riders walking away uninjured.

Saturday night December 3rd was a warm summers evening, the Pinjar Park venue was buzzing with atmosphere, the meeting had plenty of controversy and the racing didn't disappoint. It was the 2009 American National Champion Ricky Wells first visit to Australia and he went away a happy lad after taking out the final of the 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic. Ricky showed from his first race he was well suited to the tight Pinjar ring, billed as a short track specialist Ricky took to Pinjar like a ''duck to water''. It was a classy display from the American who was one of the early favourites for this years event as was England's Simon Stead and last years runner up Ty Proctor. There will be some of people that attended the event who might feel i little under done, there will be others who might feel i little confused and there will be others that just loved what they witnessed. Regardless of what they might feel Pinjar Park turned on some of the best racing ever seen at the venue with more passing than the turnstiles on grand final day. Speedway is often accused for being a tad boring as passing on slick tracks is rarely seen, not the case on Saturday night as this meeting had it all. Support divisions including the sidecars, clubman solos and juniors all gave the large crowd a great example of exciting racing. The controversy started when Aussie internationals Cam Woodward and fellow Victorian Ty Proctor went at it in the B final (Last chance decider). Both riders giving the crowd an epic two wheel battle, the lead changed several times which climaxed when Woodward pulled out all stops to pass Proctor on the final corner in a move that changed the meeting completely. Woodward was clearly seen to have both wheels over the white line in which infuriated Proctor has they went over the finishing line. For the next 30 or so minutes the meeting went into damage control with Proctor and officials debating the move from Woodward. In the end Woodward was excluded and Proctor elevated into the final for the second year running. As the dust settled it was Simon Stead, Ty Proctor, Ricky Wells and Frank Smart the four riders to face the starter in the Classic final. All four mentioned riders had given their all during the heats and it wasn't going stop in the final either. More controversy as Stead was announced to the crowd as being excluded, another victim for having 2 wheels leave the track after crossing the finishing line. Ricky Wells crossing in first place with Ty Proctor declared as runner up for the second year in a row and the veteran Frank Smart closing out the top three. The Speedway Motorcycle Club WA can be proud of the fact they assembled a true international field with a record 5 counties being represented at this years event. With strong interest already coming from the international riders to commit to next years event and giving this unique little track the seal of approval. Full meeting results will be published shorty at www.speedwaywa.com.au Regards, Brad Muller SMCWA

2011 Rob Woffinden Classic rider update - Ricky Kling - Sweden. Fantastic news for event organisers as the cool Swede Ricky Kling, confirmed today from his base in Sweden that he's coming back to Perth for the 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic. Ricky was a huge hit with the Perth fans last year at Woffy Classic and was an absolute ''gem'' to deal with said club spokesman Andy Fendley. Ricky was always keen to return to Pinjar Park and with his commitments in the Elite Leauge for the famous Belle Vue Ace's in England and moving house now complete in Sweden he's booked in for the December 3rd blue ribbon event. Its with great pleasure we can annouce this news said Andy, Ricky was a prime target for the club after his sucess in last years event and its all fallen into place perfectly now for our promotion team at the SMCWA. For those on terraces at last years event will long remember Ricky's great tussle with the ''Wild Thing'' Ty Proctor in the now famous heat 16. Both Kling and Proctor wound up the horsepower around the tiny ''Pinjar ring'' and after 3 re-starts both riders were neck & neck coming off turn 4 on the final lap of the 3rd re-run with Proctor taking the chocies by a bee's...it was the race of the night and gave the Pinjar fans long lasting memories of Ricky Kling. Regards, Brad Muller Media Liasion SMCWA

Last years runner up and Pinjar favourite, Victoria's Tyron ''Wild Thing'' Proctor has just flown back into Aussie and is looking to go one better in 2011. The Wolverhampton & Australian international missed out by half a wheel to Sweden's Freddie Lindgren in the final at last season inaugural event. One punter quoted after the meeting that: Proctor rode Pinjar like he owned it, after the super fast Victorian roared into the final with some spectacular riding during the heats. The club are absolutely delighted with their signings & the riders commitment shown toward this prestigious event, roll on December 3... less than 4 weeks to go kids !!

16 year old Pinjar Park product Cameron Heeps has just returned home after his first full time season of racing in Engalnd, and what a season it was !! WA's most decorated junior speedway rider finished his junior career on a winning high last year with a 3rd placing in the Australian U16 Championships and a record 5th WA U16 title to his credit. Cam was recruited in the 2010 off season by the Mildenhal Fen Tigers promotion and after ''cutting through'' some red tape at the beginning of the season Cam got his opportunity to silence the critics. Scored points at an amazing rate, almost completely dominated when ever he rode either at home or away throughout the National League season. Finished his first season in England with a great win in the Bernie Klatt Memorial Trophy (Individual Meeting) and wearing the #1 race jacket for Mildenhal. Cam has just singed of the famous Ipswich Witches in the hard fought British Premier League and looks certain to have a bright future in speedway. Cam will be looking for some big scalps in his first season at home on a 500, he defiantly wont be concerned by name or experience and will be keen to show why he's been labelled one of the most exciting and talented young riders in England today. 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic Rider Update. Simon Stead - England. One of the most gifted & professional speedway riders in the world today, England's Simon Stead is the latest 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic signing. Simon is no stranger to Pinjar Park and this year is coming to Perth fully charged for a big finish in this prestigious event. Its been quoted by former top cameraman Mike Patrick that Stead is the most spectacular rider in the world and will give the Pinjar fans a warm fuzzy feeling when he turns on the throttle. So committed to this big event, Simon is bringing out to Perth his best equipment to get the job done and has prepared a engine especially for the tight Pinjar ring. News just in... Nick Morris - Australia One of the biggest success stories to come out of the UK this year has been the revelation of young North Queensland wizz kid Nick Morris. At the tender age of 17 Nick has taken no prisoners in his march up the British league rankings in season 2011. Nick rides for the legendary Glasgow Tigers in the British Premier League and this year has also doubled up at the reserve position with the all powerful Coventry Bee's in the Elite League. Nick was a high priority target for the SMCWA promotion team and the club were absolutely delighted when Nick confirmed his spot earlier today for the biggest bike show in Perth this summer. I had the pleasure a couple of months back to see Nick ride first hand at Eastbourne in the UK, Nick was really on the gas and gave a gusty display around one of the trickiest tracks in England. It was after that meeting i knew Nick was someone we required to fill one of the international positions for the Woffy Classic said SMCWA Promotions officer Brad Muller... This young racer won't be intimated by the bigger names and has shown a real liking for the smaller tracks throughout England. A very compact and stylish racer with an absolute bucketful of talent that will thrill the Pinjar terraces. Make no mistake Nick Morris is the real deal and is a name to remember in international speedway for many years to come. Nick's in with a big chance of a podium position at the 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic. The SMCWA are delighted to have Nick's commitment to the event and we look forward to seeing Nick in action come December 3rd...

** Stop the Press ** RMC Rider Updates... Cameron Woodward - Australia. The Eastbourne Eagles Captain & Aussie international Cameron Woodward has this week confirmed his place in 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic line up. Cameron is one of the top performers in the tough British Elite league and will be coming to Pinjar on some very good form. Cam this year has branched out into long track racing in and around Europe and has taken to it like a ''duck to water''. Don't be fooled as there's a huge difference between 800 metre tracks and Pinjar's tiny 142 ring but this guy is a class act and will rip it apart when he turns it on. Cam also rides in hugely popular Polish speedway league and is regarded by many as one of the fittest riders going around today. This mild mannered Victorian is not coming to Perth for a rest, he's on a mission. As previously mentioned Cam will join the events first official signing for the 2011 Rob Woffinden Classic is last years runner up and Pinjar Park favourite, Victoria's Tyron ''Wild Thing'' Proctor.

After months of hard work for the SMCWA (on and off the track) the 2010 Rob Woffinden Classic will now be firmly entrenched into the Pinjar Park racing calendar for many years to come. The most talked about speedway meeting in Australia for 2010 was about to start. As light rain fell and the sky over Pinjar got darker the curtain was opened with 16 riders being introduced to the still building crowd. Racing numbers 2 through to 17 were chosen leaving the #1 race jacket as a tribute to Rob, a fitting gesture by the club (SMCWA) for the Woffinden family. Heat 16 will long be remembered, as the super fast ''wild thing'' Ty Proctor wound up the horse power around the the tiny 142mtr circuit. After 3 re starts (Proctor won the first race and was chasing Kling hard in the 2nd) this was the race of the night with Proctor getting just rewards this time by snatching it on the line in almost a photo finish from the stylish swede Ricky Kling and Ludvig Lindgren. This really was one of the great speedway meetings, it had the lot. Great racing, great little venue and great fans that got their monies worth 10 times over. On behalf of the SMCWA, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the riders, event sponsors, club volunteers, helpers & support staff and the fantastic speedway fans that witnessed one of the great Pinjar Park events. RWC Memorabilia... The following items will be sold to the highest bidder will all proceeds going to buy new race jackets (Senior & Junior) for the Speedway Motorcycle Club of WA. We have 2 very special 2010 Rob Woffinden Classic commemorative race jackets fully signed by all 16 riders. Beautifully made by Devon Shirts (UK) these are a collectors dream. Lindgren, Proctor, Johno, Kling, Woffinden and more. Plus a signed Wolverhampton Wolves speedway club race jacket, kindly donated to the SMCWA from Wolves boss Chris Van Straaten. Signed by visiting wolves riders, Freddie Lindgren, Tai Woffinden, Ty Proctor, Joe Haines and Ludvig Lindgren. Photos of the items will be posted shortly on the SMCWA website - www.speedwaywa.com.au
